It certainly would have been nice if Open Table had informed us that this restaurant burned down some time ago.
Absolutely loved St. James. The service was friendly, the food was all excellent, and my family had a great time. My only complaint was that I made a reservation for the five of us, and we were seated at a four person table that was tight on space both above and below the table. Especially with how much food we ordered, it was a squeeze, but otherwise we all immensely enjoyed our experience.
Pretty good. I’ll go again. Miso cod not the best I’ve had but pretty good. M roll very good. Very little choice of warm Sake! But plenty of cold! Service OK, ambience good, but currently a victim of its own success. Will be much better once all the wannabes have trawled through...
Our waitress was fantastic. Very knowledgeable of the menu and friendly! Food was great and nice wine selection.

I am so appreciative of the quality and the service. Soft shell crab was sold out, graciously acknowledged and as is always the case exceptional alternatives were available. Thanks again ...my guest was a New England Seafood snob....your shrimp and grits had her singing a different tune! YEAH!!!

Server was not attentive and the manager did not really do anything after we shared our experience.
We weren't sure what to expect. What we found was a fun place with very good seafood and a knowledgable staff. It made for a fun time all around. We will be back.
We enjoyed our dinner at Saint James. The raw oysters were fabulous and the entrees were also excellent. I had the NC Sea Bass in a smoked oyster sauce and my husband had the Shrimp and Grits.
While the prices seem a bit high, the quality of the food makes up for it. They only thing I was not as crazy about was the Key Lie Pie. The filling was quite good but I'm not a fan of the saltine cracker crust although I realize this may be traditional. The service was fine from our waitress. The noise level is high and seating on the first floor across from the bar doesn't help with the noise level. We have been here twice and have never managed to be seated upstairs but I think if we go back we would ask for upstairs seating.
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. It was a bit on the expensive side, for not being a "fancy" restaurant. But the food was good -- I would come again!

I really enjoyed our dining experience. It was a bit pricey but I expected that since it's seafood. The king crab was my favorite however I wish they would serve them hot and not cold as they don't serve their lobster oysters clans or crab hot, only if it is in a dish. The service was very good. The ambiance was perfect. I would go back for sure.

This was a very enjoyable dining experience. Delivery of cocktails was rather slow, but otherwise the service was quite good. Our waiter was attentive and courteous. The food (raw oysters, hushpuppies, scallops and fish) were delicious! The donut was interesting, but not fabulous. If you are looking for a quiet, intimate restaurant, this will not be the place. It was pretty lively!
Shrimp and grits made with a tomato sauce minus the bacon and plentiful cheese grits. Well made. Just not to my liking. Husband had Calabash platter and seafood was excellent but too heavily breaded and fried. Would have preferred less is more preparation to enjoy the fresh seafood. We hope to make better selections next time.
Used to be better. Service not as exquisite. Food good, but not amazing. Bummer.
our waitress, i can’t remember her name! she was tall and had blonde hair. we were seated upstairs overlooking the restaurant if that helps figure out who she is. she took care of my mother and i and made my mom’s 50th birthday dinner SO special. i appreciated her flexibility and kindness. my mom is not a drinker at all but wanted a margarita with dinner and the waitress offered to alter the cocktail to ensure my mom would enjoy it. she was always offering to provide additional help and support for us throughout our experience at saint james. it made a big impact on both of our days!

Ceviches are fabulous, raw or fried oysters delicious, and our server Hannah was truly delightful.
We had a lovely table upstairs in a smaller dining area of two seat tables that overlooked the main downstairs dining area and bar. The food was top notch and the service was prompt and attentive. We will definitely be returning.
We had one of the seafood towers and it was outstanding. Seafood was very fresh and beautifully presented. Appetizers and desserts were also delicious.
I've eaten here twice and both times were excellent! I love the style and atmosphere at St. James. It is a great place to bring out of town guests. I have been pleased with everything I've eaten here. The brussel sprouts were particularly terrific
Food was great as was service. Too much sun in one's eyes. They need too do something about that.
Really enjoyed sitting at the bar and watching the pastry Cheif make her desserts with high attention to quality and detailed presentations.
I would give it another try; they were very busy during our visit and our waitress had too many tables to serve at once. Also, the cocktails are serviced in tiny glasses and were all overflowing and messy. Bar should switch to taller glasses. At a restaurant of this price range, I would expect some sort of bread to be brought with the beverages.
A gem in Brightleaf. A vast menu of wonderful options, and everything we tried was well executed and delicious. I'm not a big tiki-drink afficionado, but they've got a solid wine and beer list as well. Great for a special occasion or last minute treat.
My wife and I have dined here several times and have consistently had a great experience. My recommendation is to try anything they have on special. I do every time and it is always something fresh (expected) and innovative. Case in point: my most recent main was seared scallops on a polenta wedge surrounded by a moat of delicious Brunswick stew. That would have been a solid dish, but they topped it with blanched collards and whole peanuts! The texture and flavor were amazing! My wife always gets the fish stew, and it is always superb. We paired our meal with a Didier Dagueneau Pouilly-Fume - worth finding if you haven't tried it. After Nana's closed, this has become our go-to restaurant when we want something special.

Food was good but nothing outstanding- chowder had more bacon flavor than anything else; lobster newberg was especially sweet; no children's menu; difficult time getting our tea refilled; soda was in mini-bottle so no possibility of reasonable refill; the fries on the appetizer menu were quite delicious; staff was very friendly though
This has quickly become my favorite seafood restaurant in the area. A great mix of traditional Calabash fried offerings and more upscale takes on traditional dishes. A great option for dinner before a DPAC show.
Excellent food, atmosphere, service. A little pricey but worth it for what you get.
Went here for my husband's birthday. He is a great seafood lover and this restaurant did not disappoint. I had read some reviews saying that it was pricey, but for what you get, it was definitely worth it. Our server, Omar, was excellent. We will return.

St. James is a superb restaurant with excellent food. Our server Josh was very friendly and helpful. I am gluten intolerant and he steered me away from the Gumbo. We both had the sea bass at Josh's recommendation and it was excellent with a superb sauce and the fish was cooked to perfection. The dessert custard was also very tasty, and gluten free. It's not a cheap place to eat, though, but at St. James you get what you pay for. Highly recommended.
Excellent food and service. Wish it was a little bit bigger size wise, but not their fault.
