Mid-Day Menu: Monday - Friday 3:00pm-5pm
Dinner: Monday - Sunday From 5pm
Wonderful dinner. But, for a $200 bill, you’d think Rue would throw in a birthday dessert!
Food was great. Service great. Noise a little too much. Deserts are the absolute best in KC.
The meal was delicious! Comfort food at its finest
The food at Rye is delicious. The service at this visit was a bit off but not enough that we won't return.
Clark, our server, was awesome! Love the gazpacho so much I had 2 bowls! Thanks Clark for your recommendations. You got me coming back again and again!
Excellent food and ambiance! Highly recommend the steak, but everything was delicious.
I had only been here for brunch at least 3 years ago and had been curious to go for dinner. Since my husband had never been we decided that it would be a fun date night. We got there early and decided to sit at the bar for a cocktail. We both ended up getting the well Manhattan on the happy hour menu. Which surprisingly were delicious for being well and on happy hour. So we ordered two more. Since we were having such a great time at the bar we decided to eat dinner there as well. I ordered the mussels and bread with goat cheese and honey. I am so glad I got both of these items! They are on the starters but the mussels are enough to eat for dinner and especially if you get something else to share. My husband got the fried chicken and absolutely loved it, I think it’s his favorite in the city now. We will definitely be back! I can’t stop thinking about that bread and goat cheese with honey appetizer.
Excellent all way around
Yep, still the best fried chicken in the world, and the Duroc pork chop melted in my mouth. Chef Colby never disappoints with his modern flavorful twists on American comfort foods.
Great food and the value on Monday, Steak night was good!
We eat at Rye with some regularity and the food is generally quite good. I wish the same could be said about the service. The last two times we've had dinner at Rye, the service has been sorely lacking. Most recently, my wife described our waiter as "surly." I would add "inattentive" to the list of adjectives. This is not a new problem...service has often been hit and miss for us.
If management paid as much attention to service excellence as they do to the quality of their meals, Rye would be truly exceptional.
UPDATE 8/15: The manager reached out to me, apologized for our issues related to service, and did everything in her power to "make it right." I appreciated this responsiveness and customer-focused attitude!
If I had reviewed Rye on my last visit--it would have been outstanding across the board. This time, no so much. We can in for a late lunch with our brother-in-law. While we were seated right away, most of the tables in more private spots had not been bussed and reset, so we were put at a table right next to the service cubby. Our server was late to the table, didn't update us on the daily menu offerings and generally seemed really off. After ordering a drink, we got a new server, Nick. He was amazing and that is the reason for the 'good' service rating. He caught us up quickly on menu offerings and was energetic and helpful throughout our time at Rye. I was not in love with my entree (but that is my fault), my co-diners loved their meals. We had dessert which was amazing. But greetings and servers can make such a difference in your overall experience, and that was the case with our visit to Rye this time. My brother-in-law had never been, but he did say he would come back, so that's positive.
Nathan was a great server and we enjoyed our meal. The food was local sourced and very fresh
blackened cauliflower was not tasty .. . Burnt not blackened in my mind. Waiter brought out new cauliflower promptly that was roasted with a little butter. Delicious! Thanks Nate!!! Great service! Yummy pie!
Excellent food and excellent service as expected. Rye has become our favorite dinner place.
The service was average at best...our waiter came over once to see if we enjoyed our meal...and didn’t see him again..and the salmon salad was definitely not what I expected...a very mushy bland flavor. I had just eaten on the plaza and it was delicious with amazing service..! this disappointed!
Excellent waiter. Wait time for entree was longer than usual.
Rye has amazing food and drinks! The staff is great and will make your dining experience special.
We went for steak night and were not disappointed. The food was wonderful..steaks cooked to perfection..the side options were very good and generous and the pie was the best. We had the lemon and the coconut cream and we all agreed it was the best we had ever eaten. Our server was also very good. He gave us recommendations and was very knowledgeable about the menu. One in our party is allergic got eggs and he made sure all that she ate was egg free. We will definitely put it on our list of restaurants to visit on a regular basis.
We really enjoyed the Monday steak night again at Rye! This has become our fav place to go for great food and affordability. The cocktail was tasty as well. Thank you for continuing to improve our dining experiences in the KC area!
The fried chicken was great, very moist and the breading was great. Server was excellent and provided suggestions. Shared a side of mashed potatoes, which were very creamy. Wife had the trout which was good.
Service was slow and casual. Lack of attention to detail and follow up. Restaurant was not busy.
As always, the food was wonderful and prepared to perfection. However on this visit we (2 couples) felt a bit rushed. Also, the noise level was really high…not something we expect at Rye.
Had the special which was fried white fish
I didn’t pay so don’t know the cost, but very small amount of everything on the plate
Ketchup size coke slaw
8 potato chips
Maybe 6 tiny pieces of fish, which was very good
We both had it and plate portions were identical
We dined on a Monday evening for steak night. It was busy but service was swift and accommodating. We enjoyed a great, very filling meal at a great value.
This is our second visit, the food is still tasty, but I feel that the prices are not quite justified. On our first visit our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and attentive, our second visit, not so much. We were seated promptly both times, and staff was friendly. The menu selection was diverse and appealing and there were no complaints from our party. I feel that the sides were pricey, $3+ for toast with our breakfast? All in all though we enjoy Rye.
We enjoyed the restaurant. Very accommodating with my party. Our server Nick was knowledgeable about their food and spirits, wine list was outstanding. It took a little bit for us to order as we were catching up with friends but went with his suggestion of the fried chicken. Unfortunately it came out under cooked, but all the staff went over and above to get it rectified. We had a great time.
Kelly was our server and very accommodating and pleasant.
Great waiter and food! It was noisy though for a business lunch - and we sat in the back room.
Hanger steak was extremely tough. The waiter was unresponsive and slow, we tried to order another drink but he didn’t show up. And the table next to us was extremely loud, practically yelling, about their TMI personal situation.
The service was awful. Took 20 minutes to get a drink.
Great food and large selection of options from bite size portions to massive cuts of grilled and smoked meat. Service wasn't amazing but we also came during happy hour. This is a good place for a date, group outing, family meal, or a business meal.
Love the quail. Keep coming back for it. Chicken was also fabulous.
There were flies in the dining room and one at our table. Pickled vegetables were very sweet with no hint of pickling. Sauce on shrimp and grits was way too spicy (and I like spicy food). Really strong pork smell (you could smell it as you came in the door) and taste overwhelmed the dish. Nice shrimp, though, and creamy tasty grits but drowned out by the sauce. Friend’s chicken and dumplings were very good she said. Two excellent desserts. Had designated this was a birthday on Open Table reservation, but it went unnoted by host and wait staff. Pretty pricey for a mediocre experience.
Terrific food can be expected always, but waitstaff is hit or miss. Last experience was horrible with completely unattentive waiter more focused on cleaning up to get on with his evening plans than bothering with his tables.
Great atmosphere. Patio is fantastic. Very cozy. The server was really good. Had the fried chicken. It was good but better the first time I had it last year. Not sure what changes. Would still have that dish again, though.
I took my son and his wife to Rye for brunch. Had never been there. We all had wonderful meals and the waiter was great. We will go back.
Horrible service. Host that seated us shoved the menus in our hands before we even sat down. Bread for the goat cheese was burnt but we ate around it. They then brought new bread even though we did not ask for it - we sent it back because we had already finished the goat cheese. They then proceeded to charge us for the bread that they brought that we did not ask for and sent back. Corkage fee was $35, highest in town. and we had to pour it all ourselves! Manager did visit the table next to ours but did not bother to ask about how we were doing. Our server was nice enough but again he knew we were not happy and management made no effort to apologize or correct the situation. Food was okay but not great enough to go back and be treated that way.
Very good lunch in a comfortable setting. Wish we would have tried their pies.
