Ryan’s has been consistently good for years. The food and service was excellent.
First time to go to Ryan’s and it was wonderful. Exceptional food and excellent service. Even went back the next evening cause the food was so great.
My wife and another couple went to Ryan's to celebrate a birthday. We were seated near the windows as requested, but then things went downhill. The waiter was inattentive and somewhat scatter brained. We had to repeat our orders several times. One person had rack of lamb, another a filet, and another NY strip...all were ordered rare to medium rare and all came out medium to well done. While mistakes do occur, I was surprised that all 3 were incorrect. The fourth ordered crab cakes, which arrived burnt. Our expectation of a restaurant that charges premium prices is that they will be much more attentive to detail and not get all 4 dinners wrong. We all ordered coffee and dessert. If there's one thing that really bugs me is the dessert comes out and 30 minutes later the coffee shows up. I want my dessert with my coffee, not as an additional course. In the past, Ryan's has been an excellent restaurant that we have visited several times. They seem to be on a slow decline. Perhaps it's time for them to reassess and correct their flaws.
I like this restaurant and we went there for our 45th anniversary. Holy Moly. Couple of little glitches that I observed. Even though I had designated our preference for a window table, and there were window tables available, we were not seated at one. The one where we were seated had a good view, but it really wasn't what we requested on Open Table. The other glitch was a little puzzling. I ordered a dry gin martini. It was listed as having olives. When the drink came, there were no olives and I had to request them. Is this some sort of new trend? That has happened in other restaurants over the past year or so. Our server, James, was outstanding. He was attentive, but not overly so. He was friendly, helpful, and accomodated our requests. Our steaks, potatoes, and salad were excellent, as were the warm breads. It was a lovely evening.
The food was good. Service was great. But, with so many amazing options in Winston-Salem, Ryan’s isn’t my top choice for fine dining anymore. The scene and the menu are a little dated. And, while very high quality, you can get food just as amazing for better prices elsewhere now.
We had a wonderful meal at Ryan's. It was our first visit so was a surprise place and a delightful meal. The service was great. Thanks Rebecca!
We don't live in the Winston-Salem are but we will definitely be back!
The restaurant is a lovely surprise, tucked up against this little wooded ravine with large windows overlooking the scenery. The food was delicious and everything was perfectly cooked. The creme brulee was perfect. And I loved that the restaurant was quiet so that my boyfriend and I could hear each other talk!
Always Delicious! My favorite place to eat in Winston-Salem.
The overall experience was great but I was disappointed in my rib eye. It was slightly over cooked for med rare and not that tender or flavorful. The Ryan's butter helped but for the price I was not impressed. Also the waitress was clearly over booked and slow. We were not in a hurry as we were celebrating an anniversary but either she was new or simply had too many tables at once.
Outstanding service and food
We celebrated out 53rd wedding anniversary the other night, and had a wonderful time. The food was great - as always - and the service was spot on. And the restaurant is beautifully appointed and maintained. We enjoyed out visit, and look forward to the next time.
Ryan’s never disappoints! Food was amazing as was the service. Highly recommend!!
Wonderful service and outstanding food. I cant wait to go back!
Incredible everything! Food, service, comfort, ambiance....thoroughly enjoyed it all! Highly recommend and will return! Best ribeye I’ve ever had!
This was our first time at Ryan's. The atmosphere was nice and quiet despite seating for a large number of people. The service was slow but the server was very knowledgeable of the menu. The menu offered a wide variety of items. Unfortunately, they were out of the first two items we tried to order. We went with the ribeye steak and it was excellent. We will definitely try this place again.
We always enjoy visiting Ryan's but our most recent trip was outstanding. Our waiter was awesome and the food was even better than it normally is, which was already hard to beat.
Shrimp and grits were top notch!
Excellent service. Excellent steaks. Of our party of 3, each had a different steak -- filet mignon, NY Strip, and Ribeye -- and all gave very high marks. Cooked exactly to order, and very tasty. Truffle pomme frittes were excellent but huge portion for one person. Two of us had a salad, one "Seasonal," can't remember the other, but both of us thought way too much cheese spoiled it; like eating fondue with lettuce. The dressing -- blueberry vinaigrette in my case -- was as thick and globby as 60s era commercial French or Ranch dressing out of bottle; made an already heavy salad even worse. The bread was boring, bland, nearly tasteless. Excellent dessert -- strawberry-balsamic ice cream with choc sauce and pecan shell was very good but too much for one person, especially after a big steak and all that cheese on salad; we split it 3 ways, and were perfectly satisfied. Excellent waiter, though his name escapes me now; calm demeanor, knowledgeable, attentive without being intrusive. Atmosphere is pleasant but pretty staid. I don't need faux decorations or bells and whistles, but this place reminded me of restaurants my grandparents frequented in 60s. But overall, a very enjoyable meal.
My sister, 97 year old mother, and I loved this place! We would cone back in a heartbeat!
We always choose Ryan's for "special occasions". We love the food and atmosphere, as well as the special treatment by the waitstaff. Each time we go, the chef comes out to met us and we get some lively conversations with him. We took some "new to the area" friends with us to celebrate my "Birthday" dinner, and they loved it too!
Hands done THE best steak I have ever had. My girlfriend and I went to celebrate our one year anniversary. The service was amazing and they even gave us each a free glass of champagne for our anniversary. 11/10 would recommend!
The food was delicious and the service was equally good- Excellent is every aspect. The Halibut
that i ordered was outstanding. It was a wonderful evening that made my wife's birthday really special.
Ryan’s was awesome!! Food and service were top notch! Perfect for all those special occasions!
Outstanding food and service. Beautiful view and nice quiet dining room. Our favorite place for special occasions.
Awesome restaurant. Great food and service. Highly recommended. One of the best in the area.
Everything was excellent as it always has been.
As always, the food, service, scenery, and southern hospitality at Ryan's were all front and center as expected.
This was the most enjoyable dinner I could ever have had! Great service, would recommend to anyone.
There is no better place to order a steak. I have eaten at Ryan’s on special occasions for the last 30 years and I have never been disappointed. The food and service are always superb.
We were celebrating our anniversary, and Ryan's included a complementary glass of champagne to begin our evening. The setting was wonderful, and the food and service were excellent. Definitely a place to return to.
Ryan's is nothing short of amazing our server and the staff were accomodating in everyway imaginable. We were here last year to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and they helped us announce the arrival of our baby girl. This year we went back with our new addition and they welcomed us with open arms. 1st class service! Thank You Ryan's and Staff!
Everything was great except steaks over cooked the second time
Prime rib was delicious! We would highly recommend Ryan's for a great night and meal!
Great food. Terrible ambiance. Horrible musky smell, damp, dark, grandma's cellar feel and smell. This place has excellent food, but I highly recommend a remodel/makeover. Thankfully, it was not raining (but at least 92 F) so we ate outside on deck by ourselves. Our deck at home has better ambiance, but without the outside option we would have turned around and left upon entering the place. Sorry, I cannot recommend a $80+ per person place that I could not enjoy the space.
I’ve gone to Ryan’s 2 times the service there both times was great, each better then the last.
Ryan’s is our go-to (literally!) for special occasion dinners. They have a great wine list and a menu with something for everyone. They have the best steaks in town! It’s a little pricey, but for a nice night out you can’t go wrong. Lovely setting, well trained staff and excellent food. Be sure to request a table by a window!
We were celebrating our anniversary. The food was exceptional, as always. However, the pacing of the meal seemed to be a bit rushed in comparison to past visits.
I have been to Ryan's several times before and had good experiences but the decor is really showing it's age and the food just wasn't that great this time. My steak was cooked properly, but it was really tough. A medium rare ribeye. The mashed potatoes tasted grainy, like they had been mixed with instant potatoes or something. Our waiter was very polite, but not so great on seeing if we needed anything for long periods of time. We found another person to give a drink order to and our waiter brought out the wrong drink. It was quickly corrected. I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon.
Always enjoy dining at Ryan’s. The food is awesome and I can count on my cosmopolitan being perfect! I am especially pleased that you hav the expresso martini as you are about the only place in Winston that can make them. I first drank them in Chicago as they are very popular there. The pecan pie you gave is most delicious served warm.
