Rucksack Cellars
Comfortable and worn, a rucksack embodies our desire to discover life away from the ordinary. It is with this same spirit of discovery that we produce our wines, each an expression of the varied climate and soils of the Sierra Foothills appellation. Join us as we explore this exciting world of wine.
We are located at 3030 Carson Road and are open Saturday and Sundays from 11 to 3. Tasting Flights are $10 with $5 waived on a purchase of one bottle or more. Club members are complimentary.
Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling the winery at 530-644-5948 or booking on Open Table. Walk-ups are welcome. Should your plans change and you can not make it, please call or go back to Open Table to cancel your reservation. This will allow others to book your reserved time.

Great outdoor tasting with an awesome and knowledgable owner! Definitely would recommend to anyone looking to have a relaxed and affordable tasting in the area.
What a perfect gem - hidden in plain sight! Rucksack has some of the best wines in the region and the location is just perfect, right off of Carson Road with orchards and farms just a stone's throw away. We have always done tastings outside at a picnic table and had such wonderful experiences with the staff and atmosphere. We seem to go home with way too much wine all too often - it is just that good! I highly recommend this spot!
Rucksack cellars was the perfect spot for my friends and I to enjoy apple hill. The wines were great and we didn’t feel rushed at all. I will definitely be back to enjoy more tastings at rucksack cellars.
The service and the wines were both great. Especially liked the Barbera.
Low on food rating because there was not any food to eat. Only tastings.
Beautiful outdoor seating near the vines. Love music. Delicious wine, bring your own food and sit at a socially distanced picnic table.
Great experience, and great value for a nice experience wine tasting
This quaint, cute, perfectly located winery really was the best experience, for a best friend getaway. The people and setting was perfect and the wine was AMAZING! Seriously some of the best wine I have tasted and I will for sure be bringing people up there for years to come!
Rucksack is the perfect little spot to stop into during a trip to Apple Hill! They treated us like family and took the time to chat with us about wine, the area, food, and pretty much anything that came up! As far as the wine goes, we didn't taste a single thing that we didn't love. We "accidentally" went home with a full case... whoops! Really though, this place is a hidden gem in plain sight. Simply amazing!
Great atmosphere and staff! Will continue to visit!
Lovely location, welcoming, friendly staff and very good wines. Next time will plan to bring a picnic and friends.
We enjoyed a lovely Sunday at Rucksack Cellars. Our table sat under the pines next to the vines. A nice gentle breeze traveled over the Chenin Blanc and Cab Franc vines. Such a relaxing day with outstanding Rucksack staff.
We love this place and always look forward to going back
