First opened in 2002, Downham’s Royal Gurkha restaurant has since gone from strength to strength, providing high quality Indian and Nepalese food at unbeatable prices. Well loved by locals who frequent the dining room not just for special occasions but on those days when cooking at home is just too much effort, the Royal Gurkha brings something a little different to the Bromley area, blending your usual curry house favourites, cooked to perfection, with less well known Nepalese and regional specialties, all made using quality ingredients to authentic recipes passed down for hundreds of years. The Royal Gurkha accompanies its food with a great wine list, well thought out and as affordable as the rest. The dining room is clean and classic, the neutral décor brightened with subtle hints of the Eastern origins of the menu, while the service is consistently polite, effective and very friendly indeed.

I ate here on Saturday evening with 5 friends following a relatives recommendation. We were a little disappointed on arrival as the restaurant was empty apart from two other diners. Also the lighting was extremely bright and very unwelcoming. Further to that despite being empty the staff were unaware of our booking and did not have a table for six prepared. This was soon remedied and we were served by a very attentive waiter. Our selections were excellent, however the recommendations of the waiter were even better. I do recommend this restaurant however the ambience could be greatly improved upon by adjusting the lighting and the food definitely deserves better tableware, tablecloths perhaps and the odd candle would not go amiss. A more welcoming atmosphere may attract more customers

We had lamb madras which was tender and tasty along with a king prawn jalfrezi which was flavoursome. Sag aloo and aubergine were great accompaniments and friendly and efficient service made a great start to an evening out.

This was our first time in this restaurant and the food is good but the 3 course meal is exceptional you can choose any starter any main and any rice or bread then ice cream which we were not interested. I love the chilli paneer main oh yummy and lamb dumpling is best garlic naan car better then supermarket. King prawn tikka masala was bit sweet which I was not expected. Ambience is okay but clean and tidy restaurant with attentive service. We will come again but to try different dishes in 3 course meal. We enjoyed our evening than you.

I attended the Royal Gurkha with my wife and another couple on Friday 28th December. The food was as usual of good standard from the starters to the main course as was the service. We will visit again.

The Royal Gurkha, Bromley was excellent value for money and we have already recommended it to other people. The service was smooth and not pushy. Although we only reserved our table through Top Table on the previous evening they still made a confirming phone call on the day of our visit. The restaurant was comfortable filled and the background music was not intrusive - in fact if it had been a little louder it would have better covered over some of the neighbouring conversations. A good evening.

Booked a table on Saturday for 8 friends. The service we received was excellent. The Royal Gurkha is a small intimate restaurant that has a lovely atmosphere. As for the food it was of an excellent quality and was enjoyed by all. Will defiantly eat here again as well as taking advantage of the option to takeaway.
