Try the fried calamari or the saffron rice balls filled with ground beef, peas and mozzarella cheese to start out your meal at Rovino. Choose from dinner entrées like the prosciutto and arugula flatbread or the pasta al sugo. Top off your Italian experience with a cup of specialty coffee and a dessert such as the tiramisu or the cannoli.
Need to book at 1:15 AM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Great food, fun environment and very good service. Will definitely be going back.
Fantastic experience. Party of 6 for a milestone event - service, food, and ambiance all top notch! Lamb was stunning, steak perfect, ravioli rated the best ever eaten, but stand-out star is the chicken!
Octopus appetizer was outstanding. It is their signature dish. This is a rotisserie chicken place & they were out of chicken for 7:30 pm Reservations. What’s up with that. The Shrimp Scampi portion was large and perfectly cooked but heavy on the spices, tending towards Thai heat. Patio seating is noisy. We had a large group behind us. Service was excellent. The Cannoli was scratch made & excellent. The wine list is from Italy and extensive. Overall a good dinner out
The food and service were great! All the dishes were very fresh and you could tell all of the dishes were prepared with fresh ingredients. I would highly recommend this restaurant to others. The establishment was small, so if you go during dinner hours, I imagine this place could have a wait. We had a large party on a Sunday afternoon and it was perfect for our group at this time.
Loved this place!!! Great atmosphere, excellent service and delicious food
I enjoyed the happy hour deal on the wine! But the food was also incredibly tasty!
I reserve a table by opentable, but when I arrived they told me they didn’t have anything available for the next 45 minutes. I ended up sitting in the bar, near where they put the dirty dishes.
Then, the service is extremely, extremely slow.
Don’t waste your time, pick another place.
It took two hours for us to get our main courses, but they were very good when they arrived. I think the overall experience could have been improved 10 fold had someone acknowledged the delay while we were waiting.
Rovino is always one of our favorite spots. Super warm, friendly and intimate. There are not very many tables so be sure to get a reservation. There is on tip I can give...there is no restroom in the restaurant, you have to go outside. Not a big deal but I always warn people to go to the bathroom before we go:) We have been dining at Rovino's for 3 years not for New Years Eve. The first 2 years we enjoyed the music much more than this year. GO!!
Excellent food and service, really enjoyed the evening! Will return ASAP.
The restaurant was booked to celebrate the New Year.
How disappointed were we...
1. that most of the restaurant is on the street.
2. The toilet is 50 meters away from the restaurant, with the kids it was very uncomfortable, there is also a password to enter.
3. Champagne was brought to us old and exhausted, apologized and replaced.
4. The food was below average quality, the salad had stale vegetables. The kids refused the pasta, it wasn't good at all.
5. The restaurant was cold and completely open.
6. The restaurant is very small.
7. The bill went over $200 for dinner for 2 adults and 2 children, where children and adults were left hungry (bad food).
Extremely not recommend this restaurant!
We read reviews, watched recommendations, but it all turned out to be untrue.
And it cost us a spoiled New Year's family dinner!
It is , and will always be our favorite restaurant in Little Italy.....
My recent experience at Rovino left me with mixed feelings. The staff were extremely friendly, but the service was terribly slow. I made a reservation, and upon arriving we had to wait ten minutes past our reservation time for our reserved table to be cleared. While waiting, my family and I spotted another table with delicious rolls on the table, but when we sat down they gave us bread that looked like it was from a grocery store. When we finally got to order, one of my family members had to choose something different because they "ran out." We then waited almost an hour for our food to arrive, and our waiter only apologized once (he said the chef was "backed up") and did not bring extra bread or a free appetizer for the prolonged wait. However, once our food did come out, it was fantastic. One of the best Italian meals I have ever had. The good food made up a little bit for the long wait, but it would have been better if we didn't have to spend our entire evening in this restaurant.
Great food, good service. Just a little disappointed that we made a reservation on Open Table and when we arrived there were no tables available. The two walk ins before us got the last tables. They told us we could wait or sit at the bar. We chose to sit at the bar where we had a great meal, but sat in uncomfortable seats.
We hosted our family and that of our daughter's new husband for a traditional Italian Christmas Eve dinner.
The fish, salads, and pasta were excellent! The pulpo was perfect and especially outstanding! Service was excellent, as was ambience. We will be back!
This place was amazing. I took my fiancé for a birthday dinner here. The ambiance was great, I liked that it was on the smaller side, service was EXCELLENT. I think the host did a great job of making us feel welcome. Food was absolutely delicious. Definitely recommend this place!
We loved our dinner at Rovino! Host was very welcoming and sat us immediately for our last minute reservation. We went for our anniversary and our server Jake greeted us with glasses of champagne. Jake was very attentive and helped us pick a great wine to go with our food. Dinner and dessert were superb. Definitely coming back the next time we are in town!
We were somewhat disappointed. Our expectations were based on the very positive reviews, but our experience didn’t live up to them. The food was OK; Alfredo pasta was average, Brussels sprouts and the split pea soup of the day were good. We were disappointed mostly by the service; our server wasn’t very nice to say the least. From overall arrogant attitude to trying to light the candle, not succeeding and just leaving it unlit (did light them on all other empty tables around), he left us feeling unwelcome. Didn’t even offer to look at deserts menu... Had it been a more positive interaction, I’m sure the food would’ve seemed more enjoyable too.
We just love dining at Rovino, it’s always over the top!
Food and service was amazing
Great food & great service! I would definitely go back. The shrimp scampi was delicious!
We had a delicious meal at Rovino last week. The service was excellent as well. There were three of us and we shared the grilled artichoke which was really tasty. I had a swordfish special which was seriously one of the best swordfish dinners I have ever had. It was served with roasted broccolini and Brussel sprouts and a fabulous Brussel sprout puree + risotto. So delicious! My only suggestion is that the lights were very bright in the enclosed front patio area. I would suggest dimming them for a more pleasant dining experience.
This is one of our favorite spots for dinner. Food and service is always fantastic.
Incredible restaurant and service! The table before us was finishing up when we arrived and the manager treated my group of 5 to glasses of Prosecco and then cheersed with us! Best brussel sprouts I’ve ever had.
Showed up 15-20 mins early and they were able to accommodate with no problems. Great food and a fun atmosphere.
Fantastic small Italian restaurant with mouthwatering presentations and delicious food.
Great food and great service. Chicken and pasta was delicious. Waiter and staff was attentive but not overly attentive. Enjoyed sitting on the patio during a warm fall night.
Loved the server. Great reccomendations and wine.
Food was amazing! Loved everything but especially the Brussels Sprouts and the Pasta Bolegnese.
Wonderful experience. We live on the east coast and plan in advance to go to Rovino every time we’re in San Diego! TOM and Antonia know what they are doing! Their staff, from chef to wait staff to manager Adam are amazing! We look forward to our next trip—and to have another meal at their new restaurant Rovino-the Foodery in the East Village! Bravo Rovino!!
This was such a great dinner! The food and drinks were amazing - service was terrific - and it was just an all-around great evening!
Another restaurant we visited due to the good reviews. We wanted to dine in San Diego's Little Italy so we went to Rovino. The food was very good. The service was good. The atmosphere is where I get hung up. It is a strange space for a restaurant. Even when you are dining "inside" you almost feel you are on the sidewalk. There is no proper inside area that you would expect. The ladies room was down the block behind some random alleyway doorway. The staff is lovely in that they walk you down to show you where it is....I guess they have to or you would never find it. All in all was enjoyable since food quality was very good.
Its an open restaurant so it was very warm that night and my guest were uncomfortable.
The rest rooms are literally down the street, NOT in same building. I was entertaining clients and it was embarrassing. Food was fresh and good, service seemed inexperienced I had to keep asking for them to pour wine for my guest until I finally gave up and just had them put both red and white wine on table so we can pour ourselves.
They were very friendly and food was good but we won't be back.
Great as always!
Great food and service, my only complaint is that the appetizer prices are a bit on the high side for what you get, to get around that you can try their happy hour!
Small restaurant with lots of ambiance and character, has amazing food and wine - it never disappoints!!
On our last visit to Rovino, we were greeted with a very delicious glass of sparkling rose in honor of our anniversary. We chose the Carciofi Arrosto for starters. The artichoke was, grilled with a nice crust and had a wonderful flavor of herbs and lemon aioli. For the main course, we both had the chef's special fish which was grilled salmon on a bed of risotto with pine nuts. Both dishes were cooked and flavored to perfection. The wine selection was good and we each enjoyed a couple of glasses of red wine from their Italian wine selection. The service was attentive but not overwhelming. Overall, it was an excellent meal and I highly recommend Rovino.
Nice patio dining.
We had a reservation for 8:30pm and arrived early. We were asked to take a seat at the bar to wait until our table was ready. We were completely fine with this and grabbed a bottle of wine and a cheeseboard while we waited. Unfortunately, no one ever came back to get us or provide an update on our table. Also, the restaurant was so hot that we both got uncomfortable and lost our appetites. We later received a text message stating they were running behind, but my question was, why wouldn't they just come tell us that personally? I didn't have my phone out during our time at the bar and didn't see the message. Overall, it was a really disappointing experience that ended up costing $100 for a bottle of wine and some cheese.
This place is amazing! I had the Pollo + Prosciutto Tortellini, it was so delicious. One of the best meals I’ve ever had. The service was extremely attentive as well. Made the whole dining experience great. Highly recommend!
