Ring in the New Year at Rosa Mexicano!

I am a regular customer at Rosa Mexicano. That changes now because of a terrible experience. They lost my credit card!
It was a group lunch (8 of us) that ended at 1. At 2:36PM, I get a call from the restaurant that I had forgotten my credit card. This was unusual because I had signed and taken the receipts, and it is hard to miss a metal card (AmEx Platinum). I checked my pocket and the card was missing indeed.
The next day, I showed up at around 5:30PM. The place was busy, and there was an impolite host getting impatient with me. He struggled to understand my name, or spell it, though insisted on writing it himself. He then took my ID and looked for the wrong name. It seemed like there was no desire to help, and he was not open to listening that he missed looking for the right name on card. He asked me to leave my phone number and said someone would call back at 8PM. No one did.
The next day, I called and they promised to call back. No one did. I called again and was promised a call back in 10 min. She did not. Finally, when I called an hour later, a person rudely said, "we do not have your card, and I spoke to my manager, no one called you on Monday".
This was a horrible experience, and felt awful to be in a situation where I had to walk to the restaurant to see the manager and show them my call logs on phone to prove to them that they had called me on Monday about the forgotten card.
Spoke to two managers at the restaurant. One of them went looking for the card and did not return! Daniel, the other manager was more keen to send me back home (took my number again of course) and wanted to find out who called me on Monday and take that person to task (rather than locating my card).
Am left wondering if this was purposeful on the part of the server to not return my card after the meal. My failed attempts to retrieve the card revealed a horrible attitude by members of the staff towards customers.
Never going back there again. Ever.
The guacamole was good. The brisket tacos were sub-par. Overall, I remember it being better
Went with a vegetarian because I knew they had great options. Was not disappointed, the food was great. Highly suggest the fondue dish.
Sat at the bar and although only half of the seats were taken, the bartender could not be bothered with serving food. Salsa was mediocre, had a steak dish that was small, tough and bland. Very disappointing .
Rice was undercooked and crunchy. Chicken soup was bland. Rest of the meal was great and margaritas were delicious.
I'll go here because of the location, which is convenient to meet friends coming from a variety of places. However, each time I get the bill, I wonder where my money went for so-so food. Still, excellent service and the tacos are delish.
Great little place for decent Mexican. Vegitarian and vegan options decent wine and cocktail selection as well. The made the guacamole at the table which is cute but in my experience guac needs some time to meld. Good show though watching it come together.
Food was great. Portions were generous, and the service was excellent.
The new menu is terrible and came out cold. They warmed it up but they have really dropped the ball with the new menu.
Casual with great food at reasonable prices for the portion sizes. Would recommend for a quick lunch in FiDi or drinks after work
Our waiter was so delightful however the tortilla soup was not the same quality as other locations. I've frequented both locations in nyc, and Puerto Rico and SF however this time the tortilla soup was just a bowl of brothy oil. Not the smokey bisque it's suppose to be. All in all good service and ambience. Was simply disappointed by the quality of the dish.
Quite descended in level of food and cocktails (we had margaritas). Used to be so delicious and so special; lovely restaurant but mostly empty.
Service was very slow, we had to ask several times about our order status and then they forgot our side dish. However food was delicious and our waiter was friendly.
We had a WONDERFUL LUNCH - Rosa Mexicano our FAV spot
Terrible service, wasn’t acknowledged by waiter for over 15 minutes after seated in dining room.
The tortilla soup was too spicy and my wife could not finish it. The meat and enchiladas that 3 of us asked for, the meat was so soft that the knife wasn´t able to cut it. Only the frozen margaritas were good.
I made reservations through open table a week before and when we got there they wanted to seat us in the bar area not the main dining area and when I asked why are they seating us at the bar they said they are booked and don’t have space in the main dining room. Of course with complaining they moved us to the main dining area but they made it look like they were doing us a favor. I would not recommend this place for large groups since apparently they don’t know how to keep a reservation. There were 7 people in our group and I kind of felt embarrassed in front of my coworkers since I had to be aggressive to be able to get a table in the main dining room which I made the reservation for a week in advance
Food was tasty but portions were on the small side (in my opinion). Nice table side guacamole preparation and presentation. Margarita was very good but expensive. Restaurant was a bit of a ghost town and some menu options were not available. Perhaps it was the area of town that wasn’t that popular on a Sunday evening. Was hoping for something a bit more lively. Not meant to be!
Enjoyed the lunch and look forward to returning for the things that haven't been tried.
Great selection and good service
Went with my husband and two little ones (6 yrs; 1.5 yrs). We ordered the table-side guacamole which was pretty good. It could have used a touch more salt, but the avocados and tomatoes were fresh and ripe.
My 6-yr old ordered her food and wanted shrimp tacos. The server didn’t even make a comment or clarify the cost for the shrimp. Ended up paying $14 instead of $9.50 for my daughter’s meal.
My husband ordered the braised short ribs. It looked so good when it came to the table, but it was extremely over cooked - it was hard to chew and had more cartilage and fat than meat. What a disappointment for $34.
1. The hostess was rude upon checking in as we had a couple of extra people in attendance compare to the reservation. I understand the need to organize and plan ahead, but with a group it can be tricky so there is no need to have the hostess be rude and point out to customers how challenging it is to accommodate changes. Customers should not feel bad for bringing in more business upon arrival.
2. The food was mediocre. My husband and I have dined at this restaurant often throughout numerous years so decided to bring people from out of town to try it. We both felt that the quality and presentation has certainly declined and some of our guests were NOT positively impressed. The guacamole is the only food item that continues to be consistently good, but you cannot have a restaurant based on good guacamole.
3. What’s up the plastic cheap looking menus that barely open? For a restaurant in the middle of the financial district and with so much competition, it is not a good way to go.
Great place to have a first date! The ambience and the service is amazing! I had the Hongos vegetarian tacos! They were very very delicious! I was particularly fond of the freshly made guac! Amazing!!!
We had a party of 11 and some people received their food and others had to wait. By the time the others received their food our food was cold. Enchiladas and other dishes did not come with sides so the price was rather high considering you only received an entree.
I made a note on my reservation of a birthday, but it was not acknowledged.
This was my second lunch, there, in the past six months. Unfortunately, while the staff are very good and service is, as well, I have to reiterate (same, as my last lunch) that the food was only lukewarm, when it was brought to our table. I don't expect it to be piping hot, necessarily, but lukewarm just doesn't cut it, not at the prices charged.
Either there are not enough wait staff, during lunch hours, or the food sits on the service counter, too long, before being picked up, for delivery to tables.
This particular Rosa has gone down in quality as of late. The portions are getting smaller, prices are getting higher, and the service outside is increasingly bad. I hope they pull it together soon because we love their outside space and guac!
Great restaurant. Service was perfect, food delicious and ambience nice whether for business or a date
The service today was slow. We sat outside for lunch and the service was super slow. We had to ask for water a few times, extra chips and salsa (never came) and no one checked in on us. The experience was complete opposite from when I sit inside. They are super quick, to turn over tables at lunch.
Food was good as always. Guac and tacos for lunch... you can't go wrong.
This place is awesome. The food is delicious and the people who work there are so nice and professional. I go to the one on 30 Mission Street practically every month. I took my family there on Wednesday and they loved the food and enjoyed the place.
Too Americanized...the Manager did take the dead Caesar Salad of my bill but I’ll never be back except for cocktails. The drink was good but everything else....womp womp!!!! Over priced for bad microwaved food.
Yes for anytime other than business lunch but business lunch is way too busy here. Food took forever and service was very delayed.
Service was amazing the food was delicious the ambience was perfect
We came at 11:40. Got a nice table by the window at the back which was nice. We then ordered a few appetizers and our entrees. The restaurant got full and we noticed 30 minutes has gone by and no food. Then the waitress came, yet - that was not our food, but our neighbours who came after us. We asked the waitress about our food and she said "it's coming"... another 25 minutes passed. The manager came and told us there was a mistake - food is coming! and that we won't pay for the entrees (yayyy!)... another 15 minutes. Food came dry. We also received a complimentary dessert (and I know you should not complaint about free food) - but the chorros were all burned out and charred.
We still love Rosa Mexicano, but please, make your staff be more aware!
Last two times, same experience. Service is beyond slow. Very difficult to reach anyone and when you do, you may or may not get what you ordered. Took 25 mins for a couple of drinks. The happy hour menu used to be good, now it’s very limited and not great food quality. It should not be a surprise to management that the outside tables get busy during warm weather and need basic levels of service.
Fish tacos were greasy and lukewarm. Took way too long to place order. Took way too long to get check. Not nearly enough waitstaff for Friday noon service. I may grab a marg at the bar, but no plans to eat there again. #chainrestaurantproblems
Felt like a fast food restaurant! Main course arrived when half way through starters!! Asked for more time to finish starter....they didn’t like that!
Food returned cold.....$100 in 50 minutes, not good! Would not be going back!
Rosa Mexicano always has delicious food and great service. Great for dates, friends, or business/team lunches. They can handle larger groups as well.
This place has delicious food, desserts. I love the music they play. The people who work at this Rosa Mexicano are very friendly and professional. I come to this place no less than 5 times a year. That's how great this restaurant is.
The guacamole is great and the spicy salsa is awesome. The fish tacos were good but compared to other places the pieces of fish in the tacos were small. The service was fantastic and our server informed me they would be happy to substitute grilled fish instead of batter fried one in the tacos.
Great food! Great presentation! Great drinks! Friendly staff. Guacamole was medium spicy! So if you like mild, don't get it or ask if they can tone it down. The only real criticism is that the sound level is LOUD! The tables are large, which has its advantages, but it can be hard to hear the other members of your party. They need to put baffling in the ceiling to tone it down.
