Rootstock Pours + Plates
Below street level in downtown Tallahassee, Rootstock is an intimate, wine-focused escape from the ordinary, inspired by the belief that the best things happen when people come together over good food + drink.
The rootstock is the nutrient-rich part of a plant that when merged with another, sparks new growth to create a heartier, more sustainable variety.
Our dream is to create a place where people come together to break bread over shareable fare, fabulous wine, and artisan cocktails. And by that sharing, discover the best of ourselves – together
Overall, great dining experience! Well located downtown with updated decor and a speakeasy vibe. Server was very attentive and knowledgeable. We split a number of tapas plates and a charcuterie board between our table and were not disappointed.
On arrival at 6:30 on a Saturday evening, everything was delightful. We were seated in a booth, which would have made for convenient conversation. Unfortunately, by 7:30, casual conversation among the four of us was impossible. The noise level was so loud one needed to shout just to be heard by the person sitting next to you.
Food was very good!
Service was great. Food not so great. Although cheese board was good, the scallops were not good at all (except the cabbage they were on was great) - tasted frozen and we’re way too salty - and crab cake was terrible. Loads of filler and weird taste. For comparison, the crab cake at Il Lusso is awesome.
Absolutely amazing experience, captain took care of us as we were celebrating a special recognition. Great spirits selection including scotch. As a scotch connoisseur I was actually impressed.
We ordered all of the food as family style and tried 2/3 of the items on the menu. We were very happy with all of them.
20% gratuity added automatically with no prior notice and no way to remove it. Food was good but a little salty. Service was just ok at best.
Awesome Experience! We decided to choose this place due to last minute reservations but the choice was amazing! Food was full of flavor! There was a quite large party that was a little noisy, but the manager made us feel comfortable! We will definitely be back!
Parking was a bit of a challenge but it was worth the trouble. The food and service were both above Tallahassee par.
The Fried Brie salad plate was disappointing in terms of size. The brie was delicious, but the salad greens were really sparse. I order the salad in order to get my greens for the day, so I expect a larger portion than what basically looked like garnish.
The slow braised shortribs with truffle risotto, on the other hand, was perfection.
Excellent except orders got a little crossed up...
The location is somewhat romantic and mysterious and has alot of potential. We ordered the crab cake appetizer, beet salad and steak to split. Many things went wrong: 1) the wine took too long to get to us (both rounds) 2) the appetizer and entree was brought out together, before the salad. 3) After we finished the meal, the salad was still not there which we canceled. It still showed up on the bill and had to be taken off. The food was OK, but lukewarm in temperature. Also, higher service restaurants will automatically split the meals for people. We had to ask for a second plate. The servers seemed young and inexperienced. Hopefully, with time, they will pull it all together.
Great service staff, food, and drinks!
Great charcuterie+cheese board and wine list! Nice atmosphere, and something new and different for downtown. Bar looked great for grabbing a drink after work or before a game/event at the civic center.
It’s like a secret hidden wine cellar on Adams St with a good selection of Tapas. The Fried Brie salad was a savory delight with caramelized pears, artisan greens, vanilla vinaigrette and honey truffle. Wow! followed by a grilled eggplant pizza with house made pesto, grated Parmesan, oven dried tomatoes on top of a cauliflower crust. The Cauliflower-Crust could've used a liberal olive oil dousing before the pesto was added. Otherwise It was a tinge dry but very flavorful. Impeccable table service and excellent value received. My dining “partner in crime” was simply splendid.
Thank you so much for your review and suggestions. We take them all to heart. Hope to see you again very soon!
I will say I've only been once and it was for the NYE event. For $95.00 they could have at least had dinner rolls for each table! My steak was super salty and the dessert was a complete miss! The salad and beef carpaccio were amazing though!! Overall the service was nice and the restaurant has a nice vibe but if Rootstock does another event there will be a lot to be desired.
Thank you very much for your feedback. It's very important to us, and will be shared with our team. Our menu is ever-changing, so please stop by again soon.
Went to Rootstock with friends for NYE and it is such a great venue. The food, spirits, and atmosphere were terrific. I highly recommend rootstock for a date night out or a get together with friends.
Good food, casual atmosphere.
Never been and will not return. Mentioned a few times my colleague and I have never been and looking for good dinner. Had recommendations and ended up ordering off the menu with various options. One being the marrow canoe. Absolutely nothing in it. Along with some spread for bread, cheese etc. Major disappointment, was not explained well. Was meh food and service that kind of lacked. I think this is a place for the state Gov. folks downtown that want to appear hip and pay a bunch of money for nothing that is presented like it’s something. Pass on this. Lesson learned. Also seated next to a table with 3 suits (men) and one younger professional woman that was so lit and loud I think she was drinking all afternoon into the evening.
Fantastic place. Great for a date night. Food was awesome. The Old Fashioned is one of the best in town.
