Room 39 - Midtown Ratings and Reviews
Room 39 is one of KC's hidden gem restaurants although they have been around for 13 or 14 years. It's located in the hip 39th street district. They offered some unique cocktails along with favorites and an extensive wine list. The service was top-notch, friendly and informative. We did the tasting menu which was plenty of food and a good value. I like that most items are sourced locally and the menu changes frequently.
We dined here on a recent Friday night. It was nearly full which is always nice to see. We did the tasting menu, so we had several dishes. I had the pumpkin soup and my companion had the clam chowder. He had the gnocchi and i had the risotto, then pork chop and steak for entrees. We each had nice glasses of wine. The food was well-prepared but the choices were somewhat limited and several items have been on the menu a long time, so the menu seems a little stale. Our service was excellent as always and we had a nice dinner, but not as different as we were hoping for. Parking can be a challenge, so plan for that.
So wonderful. Love 4 course tasting & wine pairing. Love trying new wines. The goat cheese gnocchi was divine! First Time I’ve had gnocchi that compared to a small family restaurant in FL, about 25 years ago. Ricotta gnocchi was the lightest, most flavorful I’ve had, until Sat night.
We’ve eaten here several times now and we love it in every way. Small, quaint, eclectic, intimate, different, great service, great food for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner too. We have been very pleased with all aspects of Room 39. You will not b disappointed.
I LOVE this place! The food is FANTASTIC and presented beautifully. The chef has a special way of putting ingredients together and the staff is absolutely TOPNOTCH! The wine selection and suggestions from our waiter was perfectly paired with our eclectic dinners.
Every time I eat at Room 39 (Midtown), it's always superb. Most recently we sat at the bar (Andrew was excellent to us), enjoyed mixed drinks, nice wine, great recommendations by Andrew; the food was creative and excellent; desert was incredible. The people at Room 39 (Midtown location) are always so pleasant and accommodating .. we had some last minute changes to our reservation and they were quick to accommodate (I realize that can't happen every time, but they were happy to accommodate us). I HIGHLY recommend Room 39 (Midtown location).
Never a disappointment--Room 39 is simply bliss. One of us started with our favorite, Milagro Cocktail, and the other enjoyed the seasonal Pear Cider (delicious). On to a fabulous pork/poleta/okra plate of totally comforting food with a beautiful wine--and frankly, I don't remember what my husband had, but I know he just loved it. Play list also excellent and added conversational topics for two people who never run out of things to discuss. Thanks and we'll see you soon.
Delightful experience for our anniversary! Prompt, courteous service only adds to the enjoyment of the dining experience. Meals were spectacular and the Room 39 Manhattan was to-die-for! Highly recommended dining destination. Enjoy the 39th Street corridor ambiance as well.
We ate here on a Saturday night. We go here for the food because we get menu items here that are different and delicious. And that's what we got. We did the tasting menu and started with potato soup. I had the salad with black walnuts and my companion had the potato gnocchi, one of his favorites. I had the duck entree and he had the pork chop entree. Both were delicious. For dessert i had paw paw bread and he had the chocolate panna cotta. Everything was perfectly prepared and sized appropriately. Service was excellent. Wine selection is pretty diverse. Parking can be a challenge. There's a small lot and then on-street parking, so allow time. But it is always worth the trip.
Great atmosphere with exceptional service. The food is phenomenal with it's freshness, flavor and quality. You can tell they have alot fun with desserts(wow inducing) and overall plating. The cocktails and wine selection rivals anywhere. If you're not dining here, you are missing something special.
We reserved a table for a party of 5; without a hiccup, the staff adapted it to a party of 6 at the last moment. The host was pleasant and efficient; our waitress even moreso, on both counts. During the evening, several small but special requests were made; our waitress, Alex, handled them with aplomb and a smile. The food was excellent. Most of the items--by my eye, to the fullest extent practicable, were locally grown/produced, and of superb quality. The menu was pleasingly eclectic, bordering on mildly unusual, and without fail pleasingly and intriguingly so; items included locally caught bass, paw-paw bread (with espresso gelato, for dessert, and a divine concoction), hen-of-the-woods mushrooms, a splendid risotto, and much more. The menu included excellent wine recommendations with each entree. Cocktails were consistently well-prepared--my Negroni was, in my opinion, exactly what one should be. (One small drawback--their selection of liquors, while not poor quality, lacked breadth, and in some cases (e.g., the scotches) none of the choices were of the same level as the rest of the establishment's production would suggest.
There were only one or two minor quibbles with the food--for instance, the gnocchi were served at lower temperature than optimal. Flavor was good, but hampered by the improper temp.
The whole experience was, as it should be, greater than the sum of its parts. Room 39 has a well-earned reputation for quality and a well-crafted touch, as well as encouraging local producers. It is now high on my list of restaurants to recommend in Kansas City.
Delicious food - as always - and the best gnocchi EVER! David is an excellent and knowledgeable server as is all the staff. Still our very favorite KC restaurant (and that's saying something when considering all the great restaurants we are fortunate to have in KC)!
Always a treat for dinner and the menu varies based upon local ingredients and availability. We often do the tasting menu which allows you to enjoy four courses. Especially fun if you each agree to different items so you can taste them all. The service is always very good. It is a fun atmosphere and a fun way to relax and visit with friends and family. Their brunch menu is also a fun way to experience Room 39. Enjoy!
