Roof Terrace Restaurant & Bar
Overall, beautiful environment. Wine was good, though limited wine list. Cheese board appetizer was just OK. Accompaniments for cheese were very unimaginative. (A few pieces of dried fruit and nuts with toast). No gluten free bread available. Duck entree was slightly dry, but otherwise excellent with exceptional sides. Dessert was tasty, different sorbets, but no other GF options. Overall the views and the environment were the best parts, though service was very good also.
the Atmosphere was OK and the food came out very fast. this was helpful because we were a little pressed for time before our concert. For business reasons, I needed separate checks between me and my guest. The bills, although separate, did not came the way I specifically asked for. So if separate checks are needed, be sure to provide exact instructions to your server. they are busy with everyone asking for an expedited check in order to go to their particular shows in the building, so it can get hectic for the server.
This food is better than it has to be given the captive audience. The setting is lovely, especially as the sun begins to go down, sending a golden overwash across the entire room. If this restaurant weren't at the top of the Kennedy Center, would we go? Not likely--but it IS, and so a pre-theatre visit here is a classy, elegant way to begin your visit to the KC. I appreciate the professional service and a menu that works to be interesting and relevant. I often find myself wishing the restuarant were open after the shows are over...what could be more magical than topping the night off with dessert and a drink?
I was extremely pleased by my dining experience before attending a concert at the Kennedy Center. I typically dine in Georgetown or the West End before theater events at the Kennedy Center. However, this time I decided to try the rooftop terrace restaurant and was very pleased that I did. The view was excellent, the service outstanding, and the food was absolutely terrific. The main course salmon was prepared to perfection and the duck was served and plated beautifully. I would recommend the rooftop terrace restaurant two others attending a Kennedy Center event.
The food was mediocre, but the view is fabulous.
I just love it!!!! Long live the Kennedy Center and its marvels, including the beautiful restaurant!
The atmosphere of the restaurant needs to change as it feels like a large hotel dining room with no ambience. Food is very good but needs to be more reasonably priced and menu has changed but needs revamping.
We received excellent service at the Roof Terrace Restaurant and the food was prepared and presented to the highest standards. We have eaten at the restaurant before and have been impressed. We were not disappointed this time either. We chose this restaurant because we had concert tickets that evening and finished our meal in plenty of time without in any way being rushed. We'll dine there again.
Dining with my daughter prior to seeing David Sedaris... a perfect meal for a perfect evening.
Perfect option for a bite to eat before a performance. Delicious food, excellent service. Beautiful views as well.
Excellent service, we had a 6:00 reservation and were seated right away. Had plenty of time to enjoy our meal and make it to the 8:00 show.
Food was delicious and you can’t beat the location.
We enjoyed our dinner which was quite good. One exception was the octopus appetizer which was cold, too spicy and rather tough. Also, didn't enjoy the accompanying seaweed. The server volunteered to credit us for the octopus, which we appreciated. We very much enjoyed the wine, main course, dessert and coffee. We'll be back for sure.
The continuing problem with RTR is the limited menu options and prices. Please offer 2 entrees that are reasonably priced, like a dinner salad and a burger. The entrees are complicated, pre-cooked and expensive given their quality. The dessert was the best part of the meal.
Not enough seasoning or sauce on Duck and lamb.
Always delightful! Excellent food, nice way to relax before a performance at Kennedy Center.
We had an amazing evening. Wonderful service. We couldn’t have found a better location for a special dinner before a show.
Food was decent-waiter good..
But the ambiance is what makes it !
(Kinda overpriced for smaller plates/entrees)
But I’ll go back for the view & convenience)
We had a very pleasant evening at the Roof Terrace Restaurant. The food was very good, the service attentive and the atmosphere very attractive. We're going again in the future.
We were attending the ballet at the Opera House at Kennedy Center so we thought this would complete the experience Big mistake, bland food, spotty service and weird room which was devoid of any decor or warmth.
Wonderful champagne brunch.
Food was delicious and presented with flair.
I do wish my waiter was interested in refilling the drinks without being asked but the Chefs certainly are doing their part!
The buffet on a Sunday morning was excellent, as was the service.
It was fun to go and have dinner there prior to a show, but the prices were incredibly high for what was on offer, and both of our entrees arrived cold, which was particularly unappetizing for the scallops. The wait staff is very professional and old school, and yet somehow the kitchen timing was off.
Wait staff was awesome; 'medium' request on tenderloin cooking was spot-on; had to raise my voice to be heard across a small table; meal was pricey but well prepared and delivered in a timely fashion. I'd go back as well as recommend it to friends.
Our food came out and both dishes were completely over cooked! I cannot believe they actually sent the food out that way! We did send our dishes back for a recook and they did come back out prepared near perfectly! However we were celebrating a birthday and the extra waiting time for a hungry birthday boy was not in our plans.
Need to provide children's menu with reduce fees for family with children if you want more customers.
Our waiter Santos was excellent. He knew we were late and didn’t have much time before the play. He worked with us and got us on time. Thank you.
Wonderful meal before our tickets for the national symphony.
since we attend the CTR often, and find the Terrace convenient, we use it often--but find you menu to be very limited--please change change the choices more often
Food was cold when it came out. Servers seemed to be stressed.
The quality of the meals have declined significantly over the past year. Think I will be looking to dine at another establishment before my next show at the Kennedy Center. Cold food and overpriced wine doesn’t make it an enjoyable experience
Great food, outstanding service, wonderful ambience, spacious, quiet, fabulous location.
Food was mediocre; my husband’s lamb was dried out and my risotto uninspired. Wine is too expensive! Food choices limited. Would not eat there except for going to Symphony right after. It used to be much better!
There was nothing special about this restaurant it was very mediocre for the Kennedy Center.
Staff seemed less than engaged, never was told dinner special, though couple sat later was, did not check back with us on for another drink or on how food was and then by the time he checked on dessert it was too late for our concert to order and enjoy...….staff seemed less energetic then normal
As a frequent Kennedy Center patron, I was excited to finally try this restaurant in a recent visit to see "Cats". We were not disappointed. We had the salmon, with feva and lima beans, and Truffle French Fries. Service was excellent, the salmon was cooked to perfection, and the french fries were more than we could eat. We arrived at 6 pm before a 7:30 show, were seated immediately next to the terrace windows where we could watch the sunset. The staff continually checked on us and were very quick to provide whatever we needed. We had plenty of time to eat in a quiet atmosphere and had time to spare to take a couple of selfies on the terrace before the sun went down and we headed to our evening's performance of "Cats". It was a lovely dining experience.
This restaurant is a great option for those who don’t want to rush around before a show. Park, eat, unwind. The cheese and charcuterie plate is great for sharing. While there were two of us, we easily could have fed another couple as we left quite a bit behind. Normally I would have it boxed to go but not for a pre-show dinner. Too bad ! I hate to waste.
The scallops were delicious. The wine list is very pricey but to be expected at this type of venue The service overall was good and our waiter was attentive. My only criticism was the bread served from the basket would have been better if it was warm.
Girl’s trip to DC with dinner before a play. Our play did not start until 8, but we felt rushed by the staff to leave so that they could go home.
Always a pleasure to dine with the best view in D.C. Service is elegant, menu is creative, and the surroundings are soothing.
A very favorite location before attending any Kennedy event,
