We loved our meal here!! Food was fantastic, great Baja flavors, nice choice of wines (including some nice ones from Valle de Guadalupe), service was fantastic and just a great night overall.
The service was very relaxed, maybe a little too much so for us this evening... but we also didn't indicate that we were in any hurry. The food, however, was just fantastic! Try the Chile an Nogada... wow! So, so good and hard to find! Everything we ordered was fantastic. The only negative to the evening was that we thought the music was too loud.
We will definitely be back, and soon.... wow, Romesco was good!
I went for a girls night and it was perfect. We asked for opinions on wine and food and were steered toward great options for both. Everything was delicious and I look forward to returning.
Good dinner, great waiter, Gabriel. Had th chips/guacomole appt, nice size , I had grilled octopus entree, excellent. husband had a pasta dish that he enjoyed.
Service was non-existent, even at 530 pm. Food was ok, nothing to rave about. Not a very interesting experience at the downtown location.
I hosted a party of 5 last week. Even before my guests arrived, the manager came over to the table and introduced himself, shared his specific preferences for Mexican wine and fixed the wobbly table. When my friends arrived, he checked their preferences and made excellent recommendations. We shared the grilled fish (5/5), octopus (5/5), paella (3.5/5), short ribs (4/5) and beef/lamb pastor tacos (5/5). Overall, the meal was fabulous..I am hyper critical about paella and most are over hyped, so the score reflects this perspective. I highly recommend the service, kitchen and uniquely broad Mexican wine offerings.
Huge traditional portions that were well made, but given the price I was hoping for a modern twist on the dishes. Cocktails were average. Server was not readily available.
Most of the dishes were not up to quality standard and tasted the same- they all were in need of some love. The fish of the day; however, was surprisingly outstanding after the series of unimpressive tapas.
I thought I was in a five star restaurant in Mexico City
Our waiter was pretty rude to us, and got visibly irritated when we asked for water for the seventh time. Not sure if he was upset that we were ordering salads... but we thought the wine would make up for our diets. I rarely write reviews but it was a pretty negative experience. We had gone when it was still bracero and enjoyed the experience much more. Will not be back.
It was just great. We did the Tapas, all the food tasted delicious and the service was very good.
Enjoyed tostadas & drinks, nice weather!
Chicken dish was delicious. Will be back for that. The octopus was undercooked and the sauce was equivalent to a bottled hot sauce. The Cardinal fish special was excellent. Did not like the Cline house chardonnay.
What a surprise. My family really enjoyed ourselves. The food was really good. The service was good - although there weren't that many tables. We had nice city views. Everything was simple and pleasurable.
Good service and ambiance. One of the worse Mexican food restaurants I e been to. Guacamole tasted like something out of a midwestern resturant, Carne Asada plate was just OK. Overall pretty expensive for the quality of food.
We were looking for a place in Little Italy to have a casual dinner with our son. Could not get a reservation at most places, so we booked this one because it was available. I was expecting a middle of the road cheesy mexican place, but boy was I wrong. The place is awesome. The food is a blend of mexican and mostly Spanish cuisine. We ordered some tapas to share and they were all delicious. Service was very attentive. As we were sitting at a table on their side patio (close to entrance, which was not the best spot), people were pooring into the place. It turned out this is a Little Italy hot spot. All kind of characters coming and going, very vibrant. I definately would come back here. What a gem.
We were very excited to try the new Romescos location as we have dined at the Romescos Tapas Bar in Bonita many times. However, we were very disappointed. It took a while for someone to come and ask if we wanted a drink and we ended up getting our first tapa before our drinks! No bueno. It was early on Saturday, 6:30pm to be exact so we couldn't understand why they were so slow. The Martinis were small, expensive and mediocre. We ordered 7 tapas plus a dessert and only 3 of the Tapas plus the dessert were good, but nothing spectacular. We will not be returning to Romescos in Little Italy nor will we be referring any of our friends. Sorry 😕
This past visit was my 3rd since they changed to Romesco's. I really like most of the food but the service has been a problem all 3 times. You wait for a very long time to be acknowledged once seated. For this visit there were 6 of us sampling multiple dishes. The plates stacked up because no one came by to pick anything up. I ask repeatedly for water refills. Only had 2 wines because it took so long to get the servers attention.
If they don't pick it up service wise, this restaurant will fall off our options. There is just too many choices.
With Bracero not making it, glad to see that Romesco seems to be succeeding in the same space. Nice neighborhood restaurant. Waiter was very accommodating.
Amazing authentic mexican tapas, wine list includes lots of choices from Baja!
I am an exotic food connoseiur and had the grasshopper native Aztec delicacy. Awesome
So cool! We had the owner make our table side Caesar salad from scratch. The bar is way up there for any Caesar salad for me now. So rich in flavor, that was my high. We live in north county and a good friend recommended this spot, Thanks Sean, we will be back. Great service and classy spot.
We had to ask twice for the bourbon menu. Our three tapas came before our drinks. We were consistently out of water. No one checked on us after our food arrived.
If our drinks had arrived on time, we probably would have ordered a second round. The server was polite but not very attentive.
The menu and the food are not nearly as good as Bracero. Even though we live only 2 blocks away, I doubt we will be back. There are too many better choices in Little Italy.
I frequent the Romesco Tapas bar in Bonita, and always have great food, good service, and an overall good time when at the Bonita location. For a birthday dinner, my friends and I tried the downtown location. We hoped it would be just as tasty, but in a new, fun, festive location. What a disappointment.
The food was only okay, and the service was downright terrible. The birthday girl got up from the table on two different occasions to have somebody attend to our needs. I will not be back to this location.
Terrible service from waiter.
Food was mediocre.
Restaurant was empty like ghost town.
Beer selection was paltry and of low quality.
Glassware for beer has cheap lead-plated designs. It cheapens the dining experience.
Great food and service
We have now been here twice- once when it was Bracero, and once since becoming Romesco Mexiterranean Cocina. Some of the menu items are the same, which we were happy to see. The Pibil entrée is fantastic, and the grilled octopus was also a favorite. The paella was okay, but doesn't need to be ordered again. The corn-bread dessert came with coffee ice cream was okay, but also not something we'd need to get again. The service was great and the place is in a great location, close to our house. We'll be back!
Amazing experience: the food was incredible and the service was wonderful. Our server Andy was the best! I usually frequent the Romesco in Bonita that has a more family/neighborhood vibe, this new location is perfect for meeting with friends for a dinner and drinks.
Insane food!!! We had tapas and the short rib entree which was amaaazing!! I wad kinda bummed out they didnt have an IPA from baja I wanted to try but I had another pale ale which made up for it. Great service. This is my new regular hang out. Salud!
Overall not impressed with the quantity of the food for the price, The tacos are the smallest tacos I have ever seen, for the price not worth the price, same as well for the meatballs four meatballs for over 8 dollars, and to make matters worse a 12 dollar kids meal pasta about a 3/4 cup of pasta with two (2) small shrimps on top, no pleased at all , service was not great we sat down waiting on our server for well over10 minutes, until I got the attention of the manager, gave him our food and drink order, and it still got messed up, waited around for our last item and it never came which was supposed to be an appetizer, Once I got the bill I had to get it corrected for an item that was not received, Along with a poor excuse from the manager and the waitress,
Delicioso y diferente.
Amauri and Maria are excellent! I thank the hostess for reserving a beautiful table, as well.
Excellent menu. We had the table side caesars salad and various tapas. Very cool spot and great addition to the neighborhood!
Everything we received was detail oriented which made it an even better experience. Great staff!
Excellent food, service, atmosphere. We were a party of six, and never felt rushed.
Bad brunch selection and horribly overpriced for the products and portions being served .
Rent must be an issue , they will not survive , the place show the lack of customers already
I've been to the bonita location in the southbay and this location I would say has a more modern approach which is nice for the area. The menu is also a little different but in a good way. It looks like they kept the best sellers from Bracero. Really really good food I must say. The flavors are like nothing I've had before. I've been to Mexico a hand full of times and this is as close as it gets to the real thing. Beautiful patio with a nice view. You must must try their tacos and their cochinita. Also the roadside ahi tuna tostada was very bright and fresh. Add some of their salsas to spice it up. Very good sh.... :)
Very unique menu! the shrimp and bone marrow sopes, short rib tacos and paella are to kill for. It really looks like the menu was very well planned out. My wife had the octopus entree and she ate half only, yup, I had to confiscate the rest. I had the Dos Sangres cocktail and that was enough to give me a buzz right were I needed it. My wife had some baja wine which she enjoyed. White, don't remember what it was called. Ive been in San Diego for almost 15 yrs now and I've never really experienced such authentic Mexican food like this before. I think I found a gem!
Great food and the restaurant is modern and beautiful. The food is tasty and unique.
Excelent service. The place is great! The food was delicious. Try the the a tostada. Or the classic caesar salad ! The pork.. shrimp tacos.. everything we tried was great.
