   Nigiri tasted old. Certain cuts of the sashimi did as well. Restaurant ran out of corn on NYE and didn’t replenish. Not happy

   We drove down from Austin to explore the Houston food scene for a couple of days and this was the first place we decided to visit. The food reviews looked great so we gave it a shot. The ambience was really nice, higher scale for sure so you’d expect high priced great tasting food. For appetizers we got the fried squid, pork belly and yellow tail. Yellow tail and pork belly were amazing while the fried squid tasted like sabritones chile and like chips. Also all of the spicy peppers in any dish will not include seeds, so if you don’t like spicy it’s good for you but if you want spice , you won’t find it here. 2/3 appetizers were good so we were excited for the main dishes. We got the Lamb chops which is under Seafood on the menu for some reason lol and we got 4 different Maki rolls, mostly their specialty rolls. Lambchops were OK, for the price point and scale of the restaurant it really lacked flavor but wasn’t terrible. All of the sushi rolls tasted exactly the same. Bland. There were no flavor profiles that distinguished themselves on any of the dishes unfortunately, and again for the price point and scale of the restaurant you’d expect really great flavor to stick out. Service was good, and the restaurant is nice, but the food lacked all the qualities that would make the restaurant stand out. It was really empty when we went and now we understand why. Again, appetizers are your best bet if you really want to try this spot. But it’s honestly not worth the price or effort.

   We shared the special New Year's Eve chef's tasting menu with wine pairing. Each course was beautifully prepared and paced very well. The lobster tempura was delicious! All the chef's selections of sushi and sashimi were excellent. The paired wines were spot-on. It was a delicious 2.5 hour experience. Come hungry; the portions are ginormous and an excellent value for the quality, quantity and attentive service. (Free parking in the adjacent garage, btw. Valet is available if requested.)

   Dinner with the family , the food was good , different flavors , a little rushed service -but overall a good experience . Upon setting the bill I was charged a service tip of 40% , which I will dispute with Amex. I did not authorize such a charge. Costumer be aware, check the final tip charge. That practice is illegal, fraudulent and in poor business image !

   Went for the second night in a row to indulge in the 2 for $99 dinner menu. Upon asking the waitress why we didn’t have that menu after being seated, I was only given the $100 per person “Roka Giveback Menu”. I asked about the promotion I received the prior night only to be told that they discontinued it and replaced it with the more expensive menu. I was disappointed, but continued on with the new menu. After doing research and realizing the 2 for $99 menu was still on the website, I asked again politely to check and make sure that it wasn’t still active and was told the website was incorrect. Almost towards the end of the courses, the waitress informs me that it was a miscommunication within their team and they in fact were continuing the promotion as listed on the website and that I could “come back and ask for the 2 for $99 dinner menu”. That was my entire point for visiting the restaurant that night and I also bragged to my business partner about how amazing that specific menu was (items were different than the new menu). I was caught off guard and felt like I was brushed off, no concessions or accommodations made. Not a good look from one of my fav restaurants. I won’t be back for a while and definitely was embarrassed in front of my business partner.

   Had a wonderful time celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday. Our waiter, Ismail, was very attentive and helpful. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend celebrating a special occasion here.

    Always an outstanding experience. The drinks were very good. The omakase was perfectly timed, and everything was delicious. Service was prompt, informative, and courteous.
