Rockhound Brewing Co. is a neighborhood brewery and pub close to Madison's isthmus and steps away from the Henry Vilas Zoo – a place for good beer, good food, and good company. We serve balanced ales and lagers made by hand in small batches right in the next room. We offer a handful of standard brews, a wide variety of seasonals and special brews, as well as collaborative and charity brews. Our menu showcases creative, comforting dishes made from scratch, designed to compliment our beer.

In February 2019 I booked this place for a graduation dinner for 10. We ate here last graduation day and we found it worthy of a round two. We sat at a nice table in the dining area and we enjoyed the food. The bar was right there for those interested to enjoy. It wasn't fancy but it was fun. This year was a disappointment and it's all because of one snippy hostess and/or manager. On Monday, I received a voicemail asking me to confirm our reservation, I called back on Tuesday to do so and at the end of the call the manager stated "And we have that table booked at 5 so you will have an hour and a half to enjoy your meal". It just set me back, she said it in a really snippy tone. Plus I was not even there yet and they are hurrying us along yet too late to change-up restaurants. When we got there they had a 3-4 bar (wiggly) tables smooshed together and set-up in the bar area with high barstools to sit on and located steps from the front door. I politely (really!) told the hostess that was a problem for us and she stated "that table there is the table we have for you" - ahh I immediately recognized that tone. Same lady. Seriously, I was not demanding and I just let it go because why fuss when we want to celebrate and enjoy ourselves but I'd never go there again. I know there is a better way to treat people; we received no welcoming smile, no "gee, sorry", no "oh, gosh there's been a mix-up", no "what can I do to help?" Rockhound, your hostess is sorely lacking basic customer service skills and I suggest Rockhound finds someone else to relate to the public. Food = 4 Ambiance =3 Waitstaff/Bartenders=4 Hostess/manager = 0

While in town for business and struggling to find a restaraunt to take a reservation for 10, we should have been more skeptical of one which could easily accommodate us any many different times. Some dishes were bland while others were just poorly balanced. Service was slow and confusing. There was no cadence to server's check-ins. Neither would she check with the entire group when she did stop by. Beers were well varied in concept. Execution of a couple was excellent. Cute place though the hard surfaces did make for some auditory dissonance. I wish them well

Great food, great service, great crowd! Our table was ready when we arrived. Great selection of entrees for any kind of diet. Would definitely recommend this place to others and will go again.

Service was inconsistent. Our server was often no where to be found. Food was mediocre. The grain bowl was some cold grains served on top of a cold bed of greens with a piece of salmon that looked like chicken. It was nothing special, underwhelming. Would not recommend and will not go back.

We went with 2 college families for dinner. Things started well— great beer choices, delicious Mediterranean flatbread. But when dinner came things went downhill. 2 out of our 3 “medium” steaks were beyond rare— dark red, cold inside. We had already been having trouble getting our waiter, even though things were slow there. He was just hanging out talking to other staff.... finally my friend pulled him in and kindly asked him to heat the steak more. The waiter said "yeah, I might have ordered it wrong." Didn’t apologize, was snarky about it, and brought it back still dark red. The rest of the meal he was non-existent. So while much of the food and beer were great, overall we would not go back.

Service was friendly, but slow It wasn’t busy at the time either. Lots of tables though so it could be good for a large party.
