its a relaxing and nice atmosphere - not above ordinary food - but good. Would eat here again
Great find for a reasonably priced meal in Napa. Beautiful space in restored stone building from the 1800s. Food came quickly, very well prepared, service was friendly and tip-free. Music on a Friday night was an extra pleasure! Highly recommended!
Server seemed very put out that she had to wait on us. Kitchen closes at 8:00 but was able to make an 8:00 reservation??? All locked up.
The meats at this place were unbelievable! So tender and flavorful. We had the ribs, brisket and prime rib. The coleslaw was a bit lacking, but everything else was so good we didn’t mind. The coffee was delicious! Will definitely be returning
Good food! The service was prompt and the atmosphere is warm. The tip is included in the price. I’m planning in going back this summer.
Food and service were both fantastic! Fun night. Nice wine list
Great service. Good food.
I had a terrific experience here! It's a casual large space, but very comfortable and has a friendly vibe. I had heard about the fried chicken with Korean buffalo sauce and it did not disappoint. A half chicken was more than enough for two people. The loaded fries have lots of smoky brisket and are very good for sharing as well. I need to go back and try the ribs...
The food and service were fair at best.
More guests needed to keep this exceptional restaurant going. The staff is always friendly without hovering. The food is most comforting.. not over salted as many are. The chicken pot was topped with a lovely flaky crust. The kale salad perfect .. not too much dressing and
made interesting with finely shredded red cabbage and sesame seeds. Finally, a good substitute for the ousted Silverado Brewery.
Great staff, great food, love the free corkage and wonderful atmosphere!
We arrived early for our reservation, but the place was empty. It was during Thanksgiving week so very understandable. We were greeted by the bartender and we wanted to enjoy happy hour so we grabbed a table in the bar area. We had a nice Valley Mule which is like a Moscow mule and ordered the loaded fries and the spicy won ton chips. The chips were very crunchy and tasty and satisfying. The loaded fries were delicious, but the portion size was lacking. Later on we ordered from the dinner menu and had the fried whole chicken marinated in Kim chee for a couple of days which was good, but was missing something. It wasn’t cheap so was expecting more pop to the dish. We also ordered the kale salad which was good, but again, maybe more contrast in flavors was needed. The platter of ribs and brisket was good but overpriced. The brisket was a little mushy and needed to have more of a bite. The ribs were baby back and not a lot of meat and again needed a little more bite. The Mac and cheese was good but nothing special.
I was expecting a little more something, especially with the prices so high. So I have to say I was a little disappointed.
Great family style BBQ place for family and adults visiting wine country. Comp Corkage is a plus! Quiet, friendly service and can handle large parties. A hidden GEM in wine country not to be missed.
A great find!!
Food could be better.
First time here. Would never think of going to a restaurant like this while in the valley but one of my friends had a craving for BBQ. The restaurant has a rustic charm. The food was unexpectedly fabulous, tbere's no corkage fre, and it's tip free. Of course we gave an additional tip because we brought 2 bottles of wine. The ribs were fall off the bone, melt in your mouth, not overly sauced, just delicious. The chicken pot pie was very good and would feed 2 easily. French dip sandwich and impossible burger also very good as was the corn bread, pickles and mac n cheese. The only thing I didn't care for was the Cole slaw. Would definite go back again.
It's a big dining room with ample space between tables. Wait staff attentive and well trained.
Such a wonderful restaurant but only one other table of 2 were in the entire restaurant on the Sunday evening I dined there at 7pm. The food was delicious. The prices are fair. The only problem we had was the service was too slow, especially since there were only 6 total guests dining in the entire place! Oh, there was also an empty can of coke on our table when we sat down. Not a big deal to us but it would have bothered many guests. I hope more people will try Roadhouse 29 because it truly is a great restaurant. If it was in downtown St. Helena, it would be packed all the time.
2 of us ordered baby back ribs and were served St. Louis style ribs when we told the waiter he didn’t comment back
We should of been told that when we ordered them my guests are from Kansas City and definitely know the difference
They were good , maybe chef and waiters don’t know the difference ?
The slaw is not for me .
The chicken was good not greasy good job
Excellent food, unique in that it is a non tipping restaurant. Had the shrimp tacos, very good. Would eat here again if in the area.
Stellar dining and food; definitely worth the extra few minutes drive to Northern Saint Helena.
Music was outstanding
The slow roasted prime rib dinner was amazing. Everything is good here. The band playing tonight was a real treat, loved their music
Pot pies and deviled eggs. Enough said.
Great staff and amazing bbq!
Average, at best for Napa. So many other great places when you visit Napa. However, I imagine this restaurant is good if going with children.
Great value and appetizer options for larger groups to share. Chicken pot pie & fried chicken were amazing, brisket was more fat than meat. Service is excellent. There is no corkage fee which is really rare especially in Napa Valley. Biggest disappointment was dessert. One would think a chocolate cookie in a skillet would come warm and baked in the pan. What you get is a cold cookie "presented" in a small cast iron skillet. Same with the brownie. Nevertheless, the restaurant itself is clean & visually stunning, and the food is better than most & also affordable.
Do not recommend for nice dinner. Over priced for options. Food was not good with 4 different entrees. I didn’t eat 2 bites of mine and no one asked why. Dessert came with dinners still on the table. Terrible service. It was embarrassing as we took guest.
Had the meat platter and tri-tip platter for 6 people and one person had the chicken pot pie. We all left feeling well fed with great BBQ and a little to take. Nice ambiance, great service and remarkably affordable for Napa Valley.
This is such a welcomed (relatively new) restaurant in Napa as the BBQ food is absolutely stellar! The ribs are probably some of the best I have ever had, and I’ve traveled all over the US. One of the secrets is that they are cooked “sous-vide” which retains all of the flavors from the fat (as distinct from boiled). The other side dishes are commendable, including the mac & cheese which features aged gouda and crispy shallots. The creamed corn includes a tiny bit of miso...brilliant! Will be returning to this place whenever I need my periodic craving for BBQ!
We remember Chef Douglas Keane from Healdsburg's Cyrus, and therefore we were excited to try Roadhouse 29. The space is beautiful (attached to Freemark Abbey Winery), and the food did not disappoint. And in the midst of pricey Napa Valley, we were also pleasantly surprised by Roadhouse 29's "no cokerage" and "no gratuity" policies! We can't wait to go back!
We loved the food and the lovely outdoor patio. The only thing not in line was the service. The food arrived and our waiter never came back to check to see how everything was. My friend had not received her entree and we all needed another round of beverages. I had to get up from the table to ask someone to find our waiter.
It could have easily been a great experience at Roadhouse 29 but the service was really not up to par. It made us wonder if the no tipping policy is a good idea. Hopefully they resolve the service issue and it would be a great restaurant.
First time at Roadhouse 29. This place took over Two Birds One Stone next to Freemark Abbey Winery. We made reservations for 6pm. You could sit inside or outside, but it was a bit warm in the eighties for me so I opted for inside in the air conditioned room.
We brought a bottle of wine, and this place has no corkage fee...big plus. However, we started with two Mango Margaritas, very tasty and went well with the bbq.
We had the sampler with brisket (so tender), pulled pork, and half rack of ribs. The crispy crust on the ribs was deliciously smokey and fell off the bone. You need to dress with bbq sauce, options of regular, spicy (not very) and korean bbq (sweet like Kalbi ribs). We requested horse radish, it comes with a creamy version, and there is tabasco on the table. The sampler comes with coleslaw and pickles, and 4 kings hawaiian bread rolls to make sandwiches with the pull pork, as the server recommended....great recommendation with pickles and slaw to garnish.
We also had the korean fried chicken which was also tasty, not too spicy but nice and juicy. Of course we had to take home leftovers. We will be back to sit outside and bring our dog and eat more smokey ribs and tender brisket and maybe try the tri-tip. This place is definitely worth a return visit and the leftovers were great the next day too!
PS. We left our phone on the table and the manager brought it to us in the parking lot. Much appreciated the service!
Loved the way they did the inside fun inviting decor. Waitress had only been working for 4 days and got everything right👏I had prime rib it was delicious, friend hamburger was great, husband had ribs he thought so so.. we will be back and hope more people try this much needed addition to St. Helena 👏only suggestion have more green veggies as sides
Went because we wanted to hear Bob Foley's band- he's got a great voice. A couple of us had the prime rib- delicious. One friend ordered the chicken salad and it was watery and gross- like it had been sitting in the fridge for days. Other than that, it was a really good night.
Best value restaurant in all of Napa Valley. Food is always very well prepared, and friendly service. No tipping policy in this restaurant is great. Make sure to try their 48 Hour Kim Chee Brined Fried Chicken!
First visit to this restaurant, it's been open eight months. Dining room seemed fairly quiet as we arrived on Saturday evening but we were seated immediately but a very gracious host. Being a larger group of 7 we ordered family style with many different entrees, communication with the server was challenging and a couple items were missed initially but eventually corrected. Food was delicious and the entire group enjoyed - we'll definitely be back!
Great restaurant, great food...friendly people...we’ll be back again!
Great place, awesome value! Think they were under staffed the evening we were there but overall a great experience and good BBQ
For meat lovers everywhere!
Best onion rings i have ever tasted.
Looks like they changed the menu a bit: the chicken pot pie in now on the daily menu. I've wanted to try that dish since this place opened but just couldn't get there on the designated night. It was definitely worth the wait.
My son and his family were with us and they had pulled pork/tri-tip and loved every bites.
The only small critique is that I wish the waitperson had been more attentive.
