Rive is a French Bistro on the Saugatuck River in Westport, created by Chef Eric Sierra whose Bistro des Amis in downtown Westport was, for a decade, the go-to place of some of the world's best French bistro cooking.

Like the legendary bistros of Paris, Rive is warm, and convivial, a true bistro populaire.

The dining room, with a wrap-around wall of windows overlooks a bend in the river, there is fireplace for winter, and in warm weather there is an outdoor patio that feels like a cafe on the Seine.

With a suave lighting, urban decor and, of course, un comptoir (a bar) serving hip cocktails and wine by the glass, Rive is very much of-the -moment, as popular Parisian bistros today.

Menu and food were excellent,as always. However, our waiter was not as attentive as we would have liked. Communication with him was a bit difficult, but that was a minor problem.

We had an amazing meal! The Coquille st jacques, Moules, and Bouef Bourguignon were cooked to perfection. A must for dessert would be the Apple Tarte and the Profiteroles-delectable. Our server, although new (Mario) was quite professional and a Huge Congrats to Caroline-who managed the evening flawlessly.

Went back to have the veggie burger which was delicious. So disappointed to find out the chef had taken it off because some people claimed it was mushy. Never found that to be the case. But okay, instead of taking it off and not replacing with anything for vegetarians why not try and make it not mushy? Was told by the waiter that I was the second person that day who requested it and there were only 4 tables seated. Fries are good!

What a great spot with such a nice view of the water. Such a warm and inviting staff. Recommend the French onion soup as well as the shrimp avacado salad, delicious

A great disappointment. My group convenes at Rive Bistro often and have never had a complaint. Today, the noise level, despite low occupancy made it difficult to converse. I can't understand why the music has to be playing all the time. The service was awful. It took us a good 15 minutes to get a check and there appeared to be a serious lack of servers. I must assume the restaurant is having difficulties with help, which is a shame, as it has been a favorite. I am not giving up on it yet.
