Food was wonderful but lighting was a bit obnoxious and bright causing a major reflection of the restaurant's back wall across the entire bank of floor to ceiling windows blocking the beautiful view of the lake and skyline. More toned down, ambient lighting would be appropriate. The restaurant is loud so not a good place for a quiet or romantic dinner.
Everyone was great with the exception of the manager. We arrived early and the hostess received us very graciously, told us we would have to wait about 15 minutes since we requested a window table. After about 30 minutes we went to check in on it and during our Pleasant conversation with the hostess the manager comes over demanding to know if there was a problem, not asking. The hostess tried to explain that we were waiting for a window table and without giving her much chance to finish the conversation he cut her off by saying "let them wait like everybody else!" Extremely rude especially since we weren't asking for any favors. We chose to ignore him and the incident and enjoy ourselves nonetheless. It was fireworks night it was a lovely night and the food was delicious. I highly recommend the manager take a few lessons in common courtesy customer.
I have not Set a high expectations for this place and would say its ok,food is avarage, our server was terrible ,she was turning away like rushing somewhere and would not give as a time to finish a sentence . Other than that it was ok if u are at Navy Pier ,not a Big Choice ,unfortunately
Everything was great. The service was a little slow but we enjoyed the evening
I brought my wife to celebrate her birthday and ordered her favorite dessert (creme brulee) to which the waiter thoughtfully added a single candle. The meal was excellent, the view open and expansive and the service was thoughtful and attentive. When friends come to town Rivas is always on my top 3 of where to have a meal.
Sea bass lacked flavor. Soup a little salty food is way overpriced and lacks sauces with the dish
Calamari was tender with a very light breading, Louis salad with crab outstanding. Halibut very disappointing, no flavor and tough.
Glad I went , Drew the waiter was great. We went down to watch the fireworks and loved it.
We shared a Crab Louis salad and the Fish and Chips. Everything was delicious. I think the waitress needed a vacation.
My favorite restaurant when visiting Chicago. Always great seafood. It never disappoints.
We come here every year to celebrate our anniversary. My husband always gets the lobster diavolo that he loves. This time he said it was sub par. I tried the french cut chicken instead of the halibut or steak. Not worth the price, not much flavor to it. Also, we were disappointed we did not get their big chocolate cake as the complimentary dessert that we always get, which is to die for. Instead we got the flourless chocolate cake which was not very good. The waiter was ok, but not great. Very disappointed with the whole experience. Will probably go somewhere else next year!
Steak & seafood were outstanding! Great Service. Perfect view of Lake Michigan & Fireworks.
The food, service and ambiance were all top notch.
The calm chowder was salty with no other flavor. The dishes we got either had too much or not enough flavoring. Very disappointment overall
This place was very good showed up early and they sat us ASAP the service was very good and the food was excellent I really enjoyed it and would return again. I have been here a couple of times now and it is always good.
Great food. Our waitress was outstanding. She also shared Chicago history with us.
Our waiter was fantastic. Perfect martini. Good food The fireworks, awesome.
Our waiter was very accommodating. The food was average and a little pricey but the view was worth every penny. The lobster roll was tasty and the child's hamburger was huge. I would go back if for nothing more than a drink and the view.
Our waitperson wasn't up to the normal attentive but highly professional service we have come to expect from Riva.
First time there and it was wonderful. Food was delish and the view was spectacular.
Always fantastic food and service and the view is spectacular!
It was a very good experience. The only thing was we weren't seated at the window to see fireworks. I specifically booked this for the view of the fireworks. The hostess told us that we would be able to see the fireworks from where we were, which was partially true, but you couldn't do the whole show. I wished there was a choice to pick window seat.
The food was excellent, the service was really great the view was amazing. It was a great night.
Restaurant was great but had a reservation and still waited 20 minutes because someone did not read the request ahead of time and the restaurant was not busy at all at this time.
Also towards the end the waitress seemed to forget about us We asked for the check twice. It was great to not be rushed but we also wanted to go home after a two hour dinner
Granddaughter's 13th Birthday Celebration. Food was excellent, service was with care and the comp birthday cake the best! Will go overtime we visit Chicago!
Way to overpriced for what the food is which is average.
Riva is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. I love to come here for birthdays, father's day, with friendsh for lunch. I love the craab cakes, crab legs, and the various fish that is served. The location at Navy Pier is the best. My granddaughter and I walked to the end of the pier to sight see. I love the new seating at the pier. So for a good meal and a great destination try Rivas.
Food was very good. View of lake while dining is a nice touch. The service was very good also. We have always liked Phil Stefani’s restaurants. Our grandsons ,who are 16 were with us and they were really impressed. They had the lobster/ pasta dish which they loved and they thought the display of dishes signed by famous people was really cool.
Always eat here when attending Shakespeare but took my out of town cousin there because food is consistently good - they don’t overcook the seafood which I am a stickler about and it has a great view from the pier out to the water and boats. This time we didnt have to rush and enjoyed cocktails and I orded dover sole which was fabulous. Ok it is pricey- if you want cheap eat at the other end of pier. When going to theatre we get both theatre parking discount and food discount. Note: if you want a parking discount you cant self park you have to valet it - pull in by Rivas sign. Yes I am native Chicagoan and this is a great combination of touristy location, ambiance, good service and quality food. Oh and we are mature adults but there were many groups of twenty somethings too!
Food was excellent! A little pricey but the view is nice.
Overall disappointing. Food was just okay, the waiter tied a plastic crab bib so tight in my daughter's hair I nearly had to cut it out, she was crying and upset. Not worth the prices they charge. Nice view of the water, the room we were in was very plain and not decorated very well.
Joe was a greater waiter who seemed like a seasoned pro. He was very attentive and he didn’t mind when we asked to stay at our table another hour to watch the Sat night fireworks. The view of the lake from Riva’s second floor at Navy Pier could not be beat, and that’s why I’m ranking the atmosphere five stars.
The food was good, but we’ve had better. Of our table of five, we each had a different menu item—my swordfish was cooked perfectly and the julienned vegetables were great! The others said their halibut, pike, and filet mignon were very tasty. The roasted Yukon gold potatoes and crispy Brussels sprouts were fantastic sides. The key lime pie and flourless chocolate cake were yummy, but all the menu items were a bit overpriced for their serving size (average was $10 for desserts, $15 sides, and $36 entrees) compared to other similar restaurants. Overall a very nice evening out for a special occasion.
Drew our waiter was impeccable - food was amazing - and we would return again.
Two in our party shared a salmon dish and four hours later were very sick. The timing was awful- this was the night before the Mackinaw sailing race. Really unfortunate because otherwise it was great. But I will not trust this kitchen again.
We enjoyed a very nice lunch before seeing Peter Pan. Service was very good even after the tour group came in.
Wonderful food service and view we had a great time, loved the lobster, tuna, everything!! Super friendly service.
Great view, great food, great service, great location
Great view. Excellent for fireworks.
Food was very good but not excellent.
No lobster bisque and Alaskan King Crab was not the best compared to other restaurants in the area.
A little too pricy for what we got.
I would try other seafood options before coming back to it.
The food was too pricey. The steak was cooked poorly, and the drinks were very light with alcohol. The oysters were very good.
The ambiance of Riva's is stellar. The views were spectacular as we stayed on into the fire work display. Our waiter, Drew, was awesome. He was as familiar and helpful with the wine list as my relatives visiting from Sonoma Valley. Seafood was fresh and seasoned as requested. All in all, a very enjoyable evening for my out of towners.
