I wasn’t impressed with Riva, especially since their service was TERRIBLE. I left a note on the reservation that it was my boyfriend’s birthday and asked for dessert to be brought to the table. From the moment we arrived, no one acknowledged it and dessert never came. Our waiter was pushy, not very personable, and made our meal a bit awkward by moving dishes around while we were eating. We also ordered two coffees, which were never brought to us. I had the salmon and my date had the tuna fillet, both of which were delicious, but that wasn’t enough to save our experience. We were both very disappointed and won’t come back here.
Sat us 30 minutes late but after that very good.
Came for date night. The views of Lake Michigan were amazing as was the service and food. Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu
Wow. What a great experience we had here tonight. The food was outstanding, we had a beautiful view of the lake, and our server Luis was incredible. Definitely will be back many times! Also, the white chocolate creme brûlée was unreal!
The overpriced, unflavored Sea Bass & Halibut were both a huge disappointment. The price for a steak was also a joke. For Chicago, both the food and prices were disappointing. Won't return.
We knew this would be pricey, but needed a spot near Chicago Shakes. But this was pricey AND bad. The fettuccine with scallops had nice scallops -- but the pasta was like cardboard with a full cannister of salt dumped on it. The halibut was expensive AND tasteless.
I was disappointed that Riva's was using such a limited menu. Their menu is usually much more varied and I had trouble finding anything I wanted to eat. I ordered the giant white shrimp entree. The shrimp were good, if a little overcooked. But they rested on a bed of mushrooms and tiny chickpea-size gnocchi. First, mushrooms don't go with shrimp. It's an odd combination. And the mushrooms and gnocchetti didn't have any flavor.
The server said they are bringing back a larger menu for the summer season. I certainly hope so.
As usual the service and food was excellent
A great place for a meal before or after a play at Shakespeare in Chicago. Excellent service.
Food was amazing and the view was great. Our waitress was amazing definitely coming back
good food and service....a little on the expensive side but what good restaurant isnt
Great food, great service and great location with excellent views of the lake and river.
I wish they would have asked us if we were going to the Shakespeare play so we could get our 20% discount.
This is my third time dining in the dining room. I have also eaten on the outdoor patio during the summer months. This review is for the upstairs dining area. My friend and I went there before a show at Chicago Shakespeare Theater. We ordered the tuna and the grilled swordfish. Both were delicious. The grilled items are healthy options, mine was simply prepared and served on a bed of matchstick cut vegetables. Nice view of the lake and city. The service was excellent. The service people were professional and obviously know how to time the dinner so that you can make the show.
They offer an excellent selection of seafood. An spectacular view of the Lake and skyline. If you have tickets to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, they arecaredul to get you there on time by 7:30.
We celebrated Mother's Day. The Food was amazing, we had a great seat on the window with a Great View, and the service was great.
I brought my wife here for mother's day the service was not excllent I will definitely be back to dine well worth the money.
Reva's is a lovely restaurant for special occassions especially with the family. We have celebrated mother's day, father's day and birthdays here for many years. They are very welcoming and accomodating as members of our family have aged and needed additional assistance. The valet parking is easy and makes it very easy to walk a short distance to the restaurant elevator. The food is consistently good, variety has been sufficient for all of our guests and the people are really very nice. The restaurant seems to go out of their way to hire friendly and kind people.
Wonderful buffet for Mothers' Day. Everything was excellent. Our waitress was outstanding.
Excellent service. Great view. A little pricey, but worth it for a special occasion or night out.
Would like a better selectuon
We had a lovely dinner before the performance, excellent seating, prompt, courteous service and delicious entrees. The chicken was yummy.
Riva is slipping - what always was excellent service is now mediocre, and the limited menu is discouraging - next trip to CST, going to try another restaurant.....sad since Riva has been our "go-to" for years......
Looked like our dinner was shaken on the way to the table. I was very disappointed in the presentation and also the taste. My tuna was plated atop mushroom salad which looked like shredded iceberg lettuce, which then got warm and was mushy. It was terrible.
The restaurant was also having a wedding in the main dining area at the same time, so we were forced to hear the loud music and see the light show. You couldn't even walk to the bathroom there were so many people blocking the way. Too loud and definitely not an intimate dining experience for us.
Our usual pre-theater Saturday night at Rivas was a little overwhelmed by a large and lively wedding which definitely put extra pressure on the waiters. Ever vigilant, they did their best to meet our needs.
White fish was excellent....service was very good. And this is probably not a Riva responsibility but we ate outside and the giant Navy Pier speakers played everything from heavy rock to rap and everything in between. Perhaps they thought they were appealing to all but end up annoying all. Keep it on the chill-club for contemporary background that offers cool vibe but doesn’t drive us crazy with screaming.
Very overpriced and touristy.
Was SO looking forward to the Seafood Feast. And SO disappointed with both the food and service. Service? The server was seemed nice enough, but really, just going through the motions. After taking our order, she never came to check on us until it was time for the bill. We had to flag down another server halfway through the meal to ask "Uh, should we have some crackers or some sort of tool to for the crab and lobster?" Small forks, too. Yes, we should have. I think the food was terribly overcooked. Dried out. The brussel sprouts were charred beyond edibility. Ugh. (We had loved them last time we were there. This plate should not have made it out to the table.) Just like no one cared about any aspect.
We vowed we would never come back, but after a couple of years we thought we’d give it another go! Service.. terrible, brought the wrong food ordered, so we didn’t get to eat together! Charged us wrong amount, thankfully we noticed! You pay for the ambiance not the good! Over priced in my opinion. Sorry guys but we won’t be coming back!
Disappointed in food.
Food is good but the portions have been getting smaller and the prices higher. I keep going because it is so convenient for Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
I liked everything! That's a bit unusual, so I will be back with my seafood loving husband!
Great place but the food portions for some items should be bigger. Talking about $65 items.
Riva is always a delight and we love to take friends and family there when they are visiting Chicago. Riva never fails to impress and Saturday was no exception. Our meal was delicious and the service was impeccable.
Excelente comida y el servicio fue excepcional
Un señor mayor con tan ingenio y capacidad para ver 360•
solo por el volveríamos 😀👍👌
Por la comida tambiénnnn 🙌
Great place for drinks and dessert.
We totally enjoyed our evening. We’ve been coming to Chicago yearly for 24 years and always eat at nice places 1-2 times. We’ve eaten at Riva’s several times and enjoyed it very much tonight.
It's always good. The pre-fixe Shakespeare menu is quite reasonable, but ordering a la carte can be quite expensive.
