This is my second time there in less than a week and both times the food was delicious, the service was exceptional and the ambiance was that of a quaint, family restaurant yet with fine food cooking.
This was our first time at Riccardo's and it was great. Not crowded which was a huge surprise. Nervous to recommend since we like quiet places, but we will. The carbonara was as good as I have had. A real North End gem.
We had a reservation for 8. We were seated promptly, service was excellent, kitchen was very accommodating, and food was delicious! Will definitely return!
When we arrived, the owner was visibly smoking a cigarette next to the kitchen. Gross. He then greeted us, smelling of cigarettes, and chastised us for being 15 minutes EARLY for our reservation. We were not demanding to sit, just happened to get there early. Some people enjoy the crabby owner bit, but I'm over it. Our waitress was fabulous as were the other servers. The food took a long time and the pasta was a bit soggy. The meatball appetizer was phenomenal as was the lasagna. I think that it good be a really good place to eat, the food definitely had potential, but the owner needs to realize that people will not come back if he doesn't make changes. I think we had a disappointing experience and if we ever go again, I hope it's better.
A real find in the North End. Off Hanover St but worth the walk. Took a large group including children and everyone enjoyed their meals. Portions were ample, service was attentive but never intrusive. We didn’t have desert but would definitely return. Ownership is in the house and involved which is usually a good thing. Feels like part of the neighborhood.
Had an amazing time....the place was packed at 3pm on a Saturday, everyone getting into the holiday spirit! A definite be-back!
During our visit to Boston we had the opportunity to dine at Riccardo's. The food is delicious, fresh, and prepared to perfection. The staff is efficient, professional and courteous. The after dinner drink from the owner was a nice treat. What a wonderful experience all around.
Party of 8 for a birthday dinner. The food was outstanding all around. Meatball appetizer special and the fried mozzarella was amazing. Our waitress was outstanding and the large (noisy) party didn't get to her. We recently moved to Boston and will be sure to return to Riccardo's soon!
Ricardo's is a hidden gem. Not as popular or well known as some of the other North End restaurants but it is equally as good. Because it is off Hanover you can usually get a table and it is more reasonably priced. Never had a bad meal there and always thought it was a good value.
Food was amazing
Riccardo's was busy and hopping on a Saturday night. The owner was at the door and was cool as a cucumber. Their service was outstanding. The food was worth the wait. We'll be back.
Came for my brother's birthday on a Saturday night. Had a reservation yet still had to wait 20 minutes for a table. Once seated, almost every glass at the table had lipstick on them. Clearly never polished. The appetizers were EXCEPTIONAL! (We got the calamari and the meatballs) Entrees were so-so. The linguine with clams and the stuffed calamari were both excellent. The chicken and broccoli was prepared in a completely different manner than noted on the menu. Overall, a mixed bag. Definitely not destination restaurant in the North End.
We were welcomed and seated promptly. There were no issues with our reservations, even though it was the HOCR weekend.
We ordered the meatballs appetizer and a salad, and could have stopped there. They were delicious.
We each ordered an entree. I had the shrimp and scallop fradiavolo over linguine and my husband ordered shrimp scampi. Honestly, I didn't love either of them. The chocolate mousse dessert was rave-worthy, though.
Our waiter was attentive and the service was excellent. Overall, it was a nice evening out. Next time, though, I will get the meatballs, a salad and the mousse and leave 100% happy! ;-)
We gathered for a family get together of 18 people; the entire experience was outstanding, the staff was exceptional and extremely accommodating to our noisy gathering. Excellent food, excellent service and a simply wonderful experience!
Went to Riccardo’s on Saturday night. We sat at the bar first waiting on the reservation. It was for 6 people and we had to wait almost 20 minutes. The place is small. I will say the real negative part of our dining experience was the feeling of being rushed. The other drawback was this is purely a wine/beer bar with no other cocktails available.
The food was really great. The meatballs were so soft and truly delicious. We all had different meals and there was no complaint. From the chicken to the pasta, it was all really good. The place is small and crowded, but hey that is Boston and that is the north end
We were treated like family. Wonderful meal and excellent service.
The meal was very good and the service was very prompt. The ambiance is very comfortable.
Great homemade pasta and fried mozzarella appetizer. Not overly crowded. Perfect for Sunday dinner with friends.
The ambiance is wonderful and our server was amazing. However, we had to wait 35 minutes past our reservation time to start. They pack far too many people in this place for what the kitchen can handle. Our appetizers took 45 minutes to come out, and our entrees were another 40 minutes after that.
They did treat us well, and apologized but the entire restaurant had the same issue that we did. People around us were leaving, having not even gotten their entrees because they had waited so long.
We were polite and courteous, and they took the alcohol off of our bill without us asking, but we were in our seats from 8:15-10:30 for mediocre food.
We visited Ricardo’s on a Saturday night after making a 7:15 open table reservation earlier that day. Upon arriving, we waited 45 minutes before being seated despite the reservation; this pales in comparison to the 2 hour wait guests without reservations were facing. After being seated, we waited over an hour for our entrees and never received the appetizer that we ordered. The server removed the appetizer from our check, but only after we informed him that it was never received. The guests at the tables nearby also waited long periods to be seated despite a reservation and waited over an hour for entrees as well. It appears that this restaurant does not sync its open table reservations with phone reservations resulting in numerous over bookings. Start to finish, it was 3 hours without appetizers and dessert because of the service provided. The food was good and came out hot, but not impressive enough for the long wait.
Overrated - the food was subpar and the service lackluster
Table was ready, service was excellent, very good cocktails and apps. Dinner choices were great and plentiful. After dinner drinks and desserts were all very good. Basic good time good food good service. Recommended !
Owner was not friendly, food was not cooked and the service was average.
We had an amazing experience . Orlando was great , food was great . We had a party of 7 , made a reservation and sat right down when we arrived . We enjoyed all apps and dinners we had . Thank you !!
What a messy restaurant. We had a reservation for 7:45. Were able to sit at 8:30. The restaurant simply doesn’t know how to operate the Open Table bookings. The house was full, the waiting line huge and you could still book any table size for an immediate spot.
We didn’t leave because where else would we be able to find a table for 5 at the peak time!?
At least the food was fine.
Great food, good service, although a little slow.
Good food and service. The location was also good, in the Italy neighborhood.
We had an excellent time. Food was excellent and service was attentive and friendly. Will come back again!
My husband proposed to me at Riccardo's.....special place with outstanding menu! We absolutely love the food and ambiance and highly recommend Riccardo's!
We disliked the Italian antipasto, which had odd mozzarella and was rather hot. Everything else was excellrnt: fish, wine, dessert, decor, and pasta. A beautiful north end restaurant.
Our reservation was at 7:30 and we weren’t seated until 8:15. That’s hard when you have your young kids with you! When we were seated there were people who had 7:00 reservations who still weren’t seated by 8:15. Food was great and our waiter was a doll but not honoring reservation times is a deal breaker for me. I wouldn’t go back because of this.
The service here is abysmal. Riccardo is rude to his staff and to customers. The service is incredibly slow both at the bar and at the table. The food came out relatively quickly and was delicious.
For some reason the restaurant takes way more reservations than they can actually seat and turnover is slow. Made a reservation on open table and still waited 30 minutes for a table.
The food and service were great we did wait 25 minutes after our reservation to be seated
Oh boy! We called ahead to add a person to our reservation and confirm our reservation. Despite that, when we arrived at 7, our table wasn’t ready until 7:35. 2 of our party didn’t arrive till 7:15, but still, we didn’t sit with our two small children for another 20 minutes.
We sat upstairs, which was nice, quiet and open so the kids could move around. Which was fortuitous because despite ordering as we sat down, we didn’t get bread for 30 minutes, or appetizers for another 20 after that. Then we settled in and waited for another 35 minutes after that to get our entrees.
We made a reservation for 7 so we could eat promptly, and didn’t get our entrees until close to 8:45. They blamed the delay on a rack of lamb, which would be fine if we didn’t watch another table sit, order, and eat the same dish between our apps and entrees.
They do not have a full bar, which was another disappointment for my girlfriends family I was trying to impress.
The food was alright, nothing special, but nowhere near the quality of portions you would expect from the north end, having been to many of the restaurants in the area before, I would strongly suggest staying away.
And if you want to sit upstairs, it’s definitely quieter, but the bathrooms are atrocious.
Would of been a lot better if there was a ‘sorry’ or ‘apologies for the delay’. But it was almost like, because they were guaranteed 18% for our party size, they didn’t care about us at all.
Stay away, there are many better places in the north end.
We booked in advance for 7pm. So did lots of others. We were seated at 8.15. Everyone was waiting for more than an hour. It was miserable. No apologies plus no hope of walking to another restaurant as the area is so busy. They need to stop taking reservations, small kids crying everywhere and the elderly with no where to sit - it was unsafe in the summer heat.
We had a reservation for 7 and weren’t sat a table until 8:15. The place had overbooked and was incredibly overpriced for the quality of food and service we received. Will not be returning...
It was our friends birthday there was 12 college students and the restaurant was super accommodating! Great service and food was well priced. Wine was a bit expensive but would definitely go back!
We decided at the last minute to go to the North End for dinner and choose Riccardo's. We got seated right in the window. The service was excellent. The meatball special was amazing, amazing, amazing. I also got the pasta special. The homemade pasta was delicious. It just had way too much oil on it.
My husband & I both ordered veal. It was very fatty and tough. Very poor quality. They did nothing when we complained. Also they assured us that my daughter's appetizer was vegan & it was not. They did not do anything. We will never go back.
Great food! Waitress was wonderful and very accommodating. There wasn’t a child’s menu but the waitress told us to order whatever my children wanted and she gave smaller portions. The adults and the children loved the food!
