Riccardo started his career at a very young age in Milan's prestigious "GIRARROSTO" family owned. Then, in 1982 he moved to the United States and he opened the famous Sonny Bono's in Los Angeles. In 1987 he started to work with his cousin Roberto Ruggeri, with him he opened Bice New York, Los Angeles and many others around the world.

Together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."

Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course. Some highlights of the menu are Veal Chop Milanese, Veal Shank Osso Bucco, Pappardelle with Short Rib Ragu, various classic Rissotto preparations, and for dessert options like Panna Cotta, Homemade Tiramisu and Tuscan Ricotta Cheesecake round out the menu.

Best Italian restaurant in Chicago. Vast, but not overwhelming menu. Rotating specials that are wonderful. Friendly staff and very nice portion sizes. Would recommend for any occasion.

Great meal. Great service — attentive without being obnoxious. My only complaint: it was a cool evening and we were seated by the door and the doors remained open despite the chill.

We started with gazpacho with crab, shared the special toasted stracchino cheese with prosciutto and arugula, followed by the tagliolini with black truffle pasta course, and then we each had the baccala with polenta. This was paired with a Chardonnay (from Umbria I think) and an NA Peroni. The food was delicious, but the kind, welcoming service is what will guarantee that we will always return.

Considering I live within a 3 minute walk to Traittoria, I am a frequent diner. The service and staff are always nice and attentive. The Aperol spritz was tasty however it was service in such a tiny glass. The value for the drink compared to size did not compute? I do enjoy the restaurant each time...just felt was slighted on the cocktail size? Thank you,

Leonardo was so helpful and attentive, he gave great descriptions of the menu items and was able to help us choose our entrees as it was our first time in. I made the reservation for my brothers birthday and we even got a free dessert which was not expected at all! The homemade pasta was insane and everything was so good. Overall, an amazing experience and can’t wait to come back.
