I'd come back for dinner. Really enjoyed our lunch. Great mussels and fries!
TOO noisy and hiring one more person would make a difference in service
Two had goat cheese salads, one a small Cobb with prawns to start. None were more than passable. The three prawns on the Cobb were small and overcooked. Two lamb stews and one Cassoulet for mains. Lamb stew was good comfort food, meat dominant with nice broth. But portions small and needed more carrots, etc. that were not quite so cooked. Cassoulet with fairly tough and chewy duck. The non meat part of the dish, the dominant portion, was so fatty that adult son who never leaves a scrap would not eat it. Parents tried it and concurred. Two apple crepes for desert. Average, but nothing to rave about. Two glasses of wine and two coffees. Service friendly, competent, but in insufficient numbers leading to longer waits than warranted by the food. Price $114 before tip perhaps the saving grace. This was a decent meal that could have been considerably better with better spicing, more attention to cooking time and perhaps temperature. Suspect that kitchen as overwhelmed as wait staff re workload. An OK place for a quick bite, but nothing that makes you think I have to go back there again. Better options out there.
Great all around spot. Authentic, well prepared french food. Pleasant, attentive staff, cute decor. I could have been in Paris.
Fantastic food as always
We have dined at Rendez-Vous for several years and have enjoyed many dinners as a couple and with our adult children. This time we arrived early for a 6:30 reservation and were seated immediately. The onion soup and salad were excellent. The Daube with mashed potatoes was really savory, and good and hearty. The steak frites was great as always. The soup was so good she had it for desert! We shall return,
we come here often, with our 9 and 10yo, food is always good, service is friendly and prompt. Excellent French food - the owner is French - not too fancy, but always delicious, and reasonably priced.
un déjeuner délicieux ! moules frites, salade niçoise (et frites), et 2 verres de vin en plein air—il faisait beau... mon copain et moi nous nous sommes bien amusés ! service sympa.
Live music was an unexpected plus on a weeknight, although some might feel like it oveshadowed conversation noise level. All plates were cleaned. If you are near Solano Avenue and enjoy French bistro classics, this is a good option at fair prices.
I ALWAYS enjoy Rendez Vous. It is truly a neighborhood gem. The food is delicious, the waitresses are great. The location is right next to the Albany Twin theater, so it's very convenient to eat there before or after the movie, but allow enough time because it does get busy! Food is French style, and there isn't another restaurant like it in the area. So friendly and reasonable. Great breakfast, lunch and dinner selections, with daily specials.
Fantastic warm friendly very French experience
This is a great place to go prior to or after a movie at the Albany theater. The food is good, the salad was great and the wine fabulous. The waitstaff are friendly and give you the attention you need without hovering. I will keep coming back.
Food maybe not quite as stellar as usual but overall still a go-to for us
First time visitors and a surprising new dining spot that was utterly delightful and most reasonably priced !
Will certainly be back !
I called ahead when we realized we would be early for lunch, and there was no problem. When we arrived our table was marked reserved. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with fries and my partner had the blintzes with strawberries. Both plates were very good, and we shared. The service was good and the atmosphere fairly quiet with lots of people enjoying Sunday lunch and one family birthday party. We have been there before and will likely go again.
We have been very happy, satisfied patrons on Rendezvous Vous Cafe for nearly two decades. A wonderful neighborhood place with terrific food, reasonable prices and a warm, attentive staff. Love it!
As the first time we ate here, everything was absolutely delicious! The portion sizes are quite generous. Tomorrow's lunch will be a bit of quiche, some salad, and risotto. I sent the bit of leftover dessert home with my dinner companion. It was too good to leave behind and I didn't want the calories.
Always love the food here. From soup (French onion) to dessert (creme brulle) this is the best place to get simple, well prepared French food I have found in the East Bay. I eould be remiss not to mention the reasonable price. Vive Rendez vous.
Wonderful and well-prepared bistro food. Lovely ambiance.
We luckily chanced on live-music night. French and English songs and young musicians were the highlight. The food amnd general atmosphere were superb. Highly recommended!
The French onion soup was awesome and the stew was very good although it could’ve used more potatoes:) my husband had a sausage chicken and pork casserole that was very good.
Our friend have the chicken Riesling which looked very tasty which was a huge serving almost enough for two! Service was very good and they had a local Carneros Pinot Noir that I have always liked. Overall very good and I would definitely go back!
Good value for classic cuisine in informal atmosphere
Good. French onion soup was a little too salty, but overall good food, attentive but not overbearing service, and nice ambiance. I’ll definitely go back.
Very high-quality food, friendly service, good live music.
Service not up to usual standard today but otherwise charming, friendly, comfortable and welcoming.
I go especially for the steamed mussels, but it's a broad menu and all I've tasted has been very good. Good wine list, I'm told, but I'm not an expert in that. Convenient to movie theater next door. Easy to have good conversations with the food. Relaxed atmosphere. Very nice service, always pleasant and helpful servers. We love it!
Tuesday evening live music--gypsy jazz guitar--is fist rate. Many good and basic French dishes on theme, but sadly for us, the special we ordered, coq au vin, was tasteless and easily the worst coq au vin I've ever eaten. I am still giving them a good on food because I have had many good meals there. This time food was off.
I found the food pretty indifferent and the service was poor. We had to wait a very long time for water and coffee refills (with many reminders) and for the check. The sandwich my friend had was good and this may be a good place for a quick business lunch as it is quiet and the tables are large.
LOVE this place. Lauren is the kindest host and his food is superb, all of it. I especially love modules et frites, rack of lamb, daube, onion soup, salad with goat cheese. Good wines, too. Sometimes live music that’s wonderful. Go often; it will be your favorite.
We went on a Tuesday evening when they have live music. They refer to it as French-gypsy-jazz (think Midnight in Paris or Chocolat) which really lends to the french bistro atmosphere, creating a great dining experience. The food was excellent, beautifully balanced French food flavors and very reasonably priced wines.
Hamburger was good but the Danube was salty and old tasting. I suspect it was made the day before.
Very hot evening but was cool inside patio was available.
Quick easy service. Food was authentic and good but not fancy French small plates.
Will definitely be back.
I ❤️ this place. This is my second time coming. I live across the bridge and more than 30 minutes away but I make it a point to eat here whenever I am in the area. The food is amazing. Not one bad thing that I tasted. It isn't cheap but the price is worth the quality.
We love Cafe Rendezvous! The owner and the staff are welcoming and provide great service. The food is always delicious. We love the Tuesday night Gypsy Jazz sessions.
Our dinner was outstanding as usual. This is a great restaurant that is a reasonable price with good service. One of our favorite places.
This place is a local delight. The food is excellent and the service pretty good. I believe that because the dishes are so well prepared that it takes a bit longer to get served than than I usually expect. Still, totally worth the wait. There is usually a crowd for dinner so I suggest reservations, especially if you want a booth.
Among the excellent choices are a perfect quiche, perfect lamb stew, excellent salads, croque mousieur, and--surprise--the best BLT I have ever had. Profiterols too!
I only wish they would add cocktails.
We ate here before a movie at the Albany Twin next door. The table was fine and atmosphere wonderful, but our waiter was overworked and stressed, and as a result not very responsive. The mussels tasted wrong; when we mentioned it later he said they were out of season. Why then were they still on the menu--and why weren't we warned in advance?
We went with another couple for dinner and movie as the movie theater is next door. The service was good and friendly. We ordered two Coq au Vin, one salmon, and one bowl of mussels. The one who had the mussels enjoyed his meal. I enjoyed the salmon., but it was a tad undercooked (better than overcooked!). But the chicken in wine was basically a chicken stew. Neither of the two who had it enjoyed their meals. They agreed that the best part was the mashed potatoes on the side. Because we were going to the movie, we did not get any desserts nor starters. Really too bad as the restaurant was enjoyable and allowed for conversation among friends.
Relatively quiet, cozy local bistro. Good food & service
In all aspects we found the bistro outstanding. The atmosphere was colorful and entertaining, with bright colors, French place names and sayings ("without bread and wine, love is nothing", in French of course). The menu was good and varied. We had a great green salad, a Provincial tart, rack of lamb, ratatouille, and a heavenly chocolate mousse for dessert. A couple of kir Royales were very good. The prices were very reasonable, e g $9 for the kir Royales instead of $12-$14 in other places. The whole meal for two cost less than $100. And even though it was Bastille Day, the service was very prompt and attentive. We recommend it wholeheartedly.
