Traditional menu items are executed with painstaking precision, keeping the focus on the beauty and fresh flavors of the fish.
We take a creative approach in forging our signature rolls, resulting in inspired combinations of flavor.
Dining at Red is an event. A wonderful departure from the everyday. There exploration of non Japanese cuisine is adventurous but not as rewarding.
The three of us had a wonderful time. We loved our friendly waitress - very efficient without being intrusive.
Amazing as always! Best sushi in town by far! I go here for every occasion.
Super good and more reasonably priced the I was expecting. I was planning and willing to spend much more for the quality of food and service we received. We parked on the wrong side of the building but I actually liked that better, felt like goodfellas “ I don’t like to stand in lines, I like this way better”
Wonderful sushi and sashimi. lots of options beyond sushi. Nice staff.
Great place and food but the service was less then impressive. Our waitress took 30 mins to come back and take our order and we had to flag her down. She claims she thought she took our order already. When you go somewhere like that on a weekday date night it was very disappointing. Also we had to ask her for more water and drinks. Never checked in and wasn’t overly attentive until she brought the bill...
Very good sushi with some unique rolls. Service was good and the sushi was fresh and well prepared. Pricing is on the higher end of the spectrum as far as sushi goes, just FYI.
Sushi Dinner is a bit misleading and does not include rolls
Such a great experience. We were celebrating my girlfriend's birthday and they added a few touches to her food presentation to make it a little bit special.
5 stars all the way... we ordered cocktails, sushi and dessert and everything they brought us was awesome!
The food was amazing and the drinks are so good that I only wanted to have one but had to have a second.
We dine here with our son when we are in Madison to visit him at UW. We feel that it is the best restaurant in Madison and have to make it our first stop when we are in town.
Nice presentation of food, unique selection of sushi rolls, comes with good sauces.
very good sushi items, meat dishes need work. need a carb and or a vegetable to go with the main entrees.
Our server was incredibly amazing. He was very knowledgeable about all sushi that we chose and he wasn't overbearing the entire meal. Overall amazing experience with some wonderful drinks and sushi.
Friendly great service. Very fresh Sushi!
Found this restaurant highly recommended on trip advisor. We like to eat sushi so saw that on the menu and thought we would try it. We ordered the dragon and the rainbow sushi and both came very well presented and very tasty.
Very good. We had two rolls and cocktails. We were surprised at the check being so affordable. It was our anniversary and they gave us each a glass of champagne. Well done Red.
We hosted a business dinner here and the service was excellent. Food was exceptional. We will be back to dine with RED again. - Thanks
Our waiter was amazing and the staff incredible! I had submitted a special request to have someone write the words “I love you” on my girlfriend’s desert plate and they not only embraced my request but the dish was beautiful! I can’t express how thankful I am to them for helping me create a beautiful evening for my girlfriend! The food was also INCREDIBLE! The only thing I didn’t like was that the seating was very cramped. It didn’t feel private at all because people who arrive in pairs were seated very close together... like less than an arms length... I was close enough to the stranger next to me to have whispered in her ear if I leaned over just a bit... so that made things a little awkward because everyone could clearly hear each others conversations.
So... if they could put more space between tables that’s be awesome!
My family and I love Red's! Service is always attentive. Sushi is always fresh and beautifully plated.
Great food. Made reservation, was 10 minutes early and they still kept me waiting as they gave my table away...not cool!
If you enjoy Japanese food, you will enjoy Red. We had a reservation and were seated promptly at a nice table with a good view of the chefs. The server was very helpful in advising us on the extensive menu. One member of the party was vegan. There is an entire vegan menu. She ordered the vegan sushi dinner, which was beautiful and, so she reported, very good. The other three of us had three types of sashimi for starter and five rolls for main. The specialty cocktails and beer selection, while not extensive, were excellent accompaniments to the meal. We did not have a view to the outside, but some seats on the patio and near the front window may have a view of the capital a couple of blockes away. As is typical for a restaurant of this genre, a full-featured dinner can a bit pricey. With tip, we totalled out at about $60 each. However, for a light meal or drinks and small plates, one could spend much less. I look forward to returning when I am in the area again to try some of the hot dishes, which look great.
As usual, food was good. They, however, probably took a lot more guests than they could handle that evening: we sat at 7 PM and got our meal at 8 PM.
Les produits sont frais préparés à la demande et excellents. Le service est parfait. Le dessert est top comme tout le repas.
Best Sushi in town! Order the Brussel sprout petals too!
They were great. We showed up 10 minutes early for our reservation and we were still seated immediately. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive, and sweet as hell. I had remarked on our reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary and they surprised us with complimentary champagne! Food was off the charts. Can’t wait to go back!
First and foremost, our food was INCREDIBLE, and our service was fabulous. That being said, the atmosphere was a little douchey. It felt like they were trying to be a high end salon in San Francisco. We probably won’t do another date night there, since we could hardly hear each other, but it would be great for a group gathering. I would definitely recommend. Lots of yummy vegetarian options!!!
RED is always amazing. Great sushi, atmosphere and staff.
RED is our usual "go to" sushi spot and again they did not disappoint. We don't come often, just for special occasions and this time was my fiance's birthday. I booked on OpenTable and let them know it was her birthday. When they brought out our platter of rolls there was a candle stuck to the tray. It is little things like this that made the night special for both of us and the attention to detail was greatly appreciated.
I've been told Red has good sushi and better than my regular go-to place so I have been hesitant to try. Well, I took the plunge and went to Red last night with friends ... and I have to say, it is as good as my usual place. Very creative dishes and great ambience.
I love the open kitchen concept where you can see the chefs create dishes for serving. The interior decor is full of curves that pull you into the essence of a dining place. It is intimate for sure as in I was no more than 6" from the next table with guests I don't know. Noise level is on high side.
I started with their lychee martini- a drink that is as good as any in town. Someone on our party liked it. Not for me - I had the one create by Hyatt in hong Kong and have not found one in US that can beat it yet. Maybe it is the fresh lychee or that Red uses lime in their concoction.
Dishes were great especially the rolls. I think that's their work of art. I had the sashimi dinner and while the pieces of raw fishes were fresh, the size was ordinary and on the small side. The dish was decorated with roes and micro greens and a slice of kiwi on the side. This was served with a bowl of Japanese rice with more roes. Slices of meat can be larger.
Seaweed salad ya very good and I recommend it.
The wow dish was Pork belly and scallops - beautiful decorated and the pork belly was super tender & scallops were very fresh.
We also ordered the Tofu roll with Thai chili. Too spicy for me. The 7 sins roll is unlike the other rolls in that it is chunkier and taste wise ordinary.
The other two dishes were the Chicken and the Peking Duck rolls. I didn't get to taste them but those who did said they were good too.
I will definitely return to try some rolls in the future.
Had a wonderful dinner here with our friends from Denver. They stayed 8 days, and this was their favorite restaurant. I had the chefs choice sashimi and it was terrific. Served over ice with small dabs of colored roe, it was the best I’ve had in Madison. My wife had a dragon roll which she enjoyed, after removing the cooked eel which I gobbled up. Her seaweed salad was great, crunchy and fresh.
Our friends had 5he ribs and the steak with a tempura shrimp appetizer. Everything disappeared off our plates.
Our server was good at explaining the menu, and always was at hand without being intrusive.
Will return with our next out of town guests from DC next week.
Celebrated a birthday here, and would say it lives up to the hype. My least favorite thing was the atmosphere. It's definitely louder and tables are close together. But the tourists balance out the trendiness a bit. Our waitress was very likable and great with banter. They also accommodated three reservation changes no problem. Food was between very good and outstanding. A lot of the menu items were unique for the area. Total bill with drinks and a helpful number of sashimi orders made it above the stated price range.
Great food as always; drinks were delicious too. A bit loud and seating is very tight.
Best sushi in Madison by far!
Great food, don’t want to eat other sushi again, but service was very slow and both times that i’ve been there, they’ve forgotten that I ordered miso soup as an app.
Great menu for appetizers and main entree. Vegan key lime dessert was one of the best desserts I have had in a long time. Beautiful presentation with every dish. Excellent service
The food and service were good. The noise level made it difficult to hear across the table.
I definitely recommend sitting in the front patio if possible an a nice evening. The service is always great, great atmosphere! Loved the Volcano Roll!
Absolutely fantastic! Great food great atmosphere!
