Had a get together with the boys. Great place, great service, solid food. Only complaint would be the portion size of the fried chicken and waffle was tiny (tiny drumstick/thigh piece) and 2 waffles. Not very filling for guys but luckily we got other food as well.
All in all, worth going to if you're in the area and want a brunch place that's not overcrowded, but not worth going out of the way for (long driving distance).
Also the orange mimosa is definitely better than the pineapple mimosa. Bottomless mimosas are $14, or $7 for a glass.
The location is easy access and lots of parking, relaxed comfortable outdoor patio, the food was delicious and reasonably priced. We will return.
Came across a review on a San Diego blog about Red Card Cafe and since we live only about 10 minutes away, I had to try it out. Was NOT disappointed! My sister and I went and shared the shrimp ceviche. We are picky about ceviche and this was fantastic! Super flavor, drenched in lime juice and cilantro. I got the Cobb salad and it seems simple, but it was probably the best salad I've ever ordered at a restaurant. Their homemade buttermilk Chipotle salad dressing was what brought it all together for me, but they had the perfect amount of every ingredient so that you actually got everything in each bite. My sister got the jerk chicken sandwich and it was incredible! A huge piece of grilled pineapple with slaw and goat cheese... Not expected, but it worked so well together.
The second time we went, we got the ceviche again and I got the salad again (I become a creature of habit when I find something I like at a restaurant), but my sister went for the TJ dogs and the Mexican corn. She absolutely loved both. The corn was sweet and fresh, but perfectly slathered with the requisite toppings. The hot dogs were so unique, but delicious and filling!
I've loved Red Card so much, I took my husband for brunch! We realized just before leaving for brunch that we actually had things we had to do today, otherwise we were going to do the bottomless mimosas. We did one each anyway and I got the fried chicken and waffles. The chicken was not as salty as one would usually find, but I realized that worked well being served with syrupy waffles. My husband got the chorizo scramble and wolfed it down. He said it was like a Benedict and hash combined. The apples surprised him, but they were a great addition.
All in all, we love Red Card! A gem in little Bay Ho with an awesome beers-on-tap menu that is not to be missed.
We had heard good things and wanted to try them out. Must be better for lunch because dinner was weird. Hardly anyone was there and it was situated in a business park type of area. Food was just so-so.
What a gem! The food was fantastic and the space was very cool! The jerk chicken sandwich and the Southwest Cobb chicken salad were perfect and the shrimp ceviche did not disappoint. We went for a week day lunch, but I can't wait to return for brunch.
Fantastic new find. Worth the drive from North County. Went for Mother's Day and looking forward to my next visit!!
Nice Mother's Day brunch. Good food, and great service would gladly come back here again.
We got the fish and chips and spaghetti and burrata. Both were really yummy, but there was about 7 bites of spaghetti. I have never seen such a small serving! And for $15!!! I'm a small woman, and I was still starving when I left. We turned to each other as we left and said, ok great...so what are we going to make for dinner when we get home? We literally made a second meal upon our return home.
Great service and great food!! It's a little hidden, but so worth the search for it. The red velvet waffle is insane!!
Great service and fantastic menu. Lots of tasty options!
Great for kids and / or date night. Small place that offers a great menu. Happy hour is awesome for smaller plates.
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend the duck fries.
Ambiance needs improvement - food was really good but go after 7pm and bring a jacket - we went at 5:30pm on a Saturday and it was completely dead (not a single other customer until 6pm and they walked out for some reason after only 5mins) but it picked up when we were leaving ~7pm. Also they had this garage door / front entrance wide open - horrible idea as it was 60 degrees outside and even staff complained how cold it was but no one made an effort to close it until more people arrived.
Good meal and craft brew selection. Something on the menu for every taste. After 7 months the improvements are slight but smart. Keep up the good work.
My wife and love this spot, the food is always amazing and service is outstanding. Also it casual enough to stop in for a beer or two after a long mountain bike ride. Will be there next Wednesday afternoon.
We love the Red Card! The food is great and the service is friendly. It has a neighborhood-feeling w modern decor and family warmth. The private room looks fantastic! (looks like it would be great for small business event or adult birthday party)
One of my favorite haunts. Caroline is divine, the food is excellent, and atmosphere is fun and funky. A bit off the beaten path, but worth letting your car take you there.
Used to come here when it was Kitchen 4140 and enjoyed it so much and we were hoping that the restaurant would continue to be great. So glad we came. It was restaurant week dinner and so worth it! Our table of 4 enjoyed the Agua Chile, Frito Misto, Steak Frites, Local Catch, Pot du Cholat and Molasses ice cream sandwich. We enjoyed everything so much. The service was superb. Everyone checked on us to ensure we were enjoying ourselves. Food was well seasoned and cooked to our requests. The pot du chocolate was very intense so you better like chocolate if you order it. Will return after restaurant week and are very glad the restaurant location continued with a new chef and concept that was still a delicious spot!
Dined on a Wednesday evening, nice quiet atmosphere and good service. Had one of the casual seating areas instead of regular table seating. The space was very comfortable...like being in your living room, but not. ;)
Went here for restaurant week and the food was very good, except the dessert. The restaurant was almost empty so I wasn't sure if it would be good or not. I would go back since the food was quite good.
Outstanding food and service. I will definitely go often.
Came in Christmas Eve. There were very few other tables, but the service was great, so it didn't feel uncomfortable. Good craft beer selection and the menu offered something for everyone. The theme of global street food was executed well. I had the crispy salmon with cauliflower rice and bok choy: the fish was crispy outside and tender and moist on the inside. Would eat there again if I returned to the area.
I was very much looking forward to visiting the Red Card Café and it did not disappoint - food was good and reasonable and service was great - will definitely go back and support this small local eatery ...
Very good food. Good ingredients. A touch of class permeates this modern sports bar. The staff seem to really care about their customers.
Quite honestly one of the best meals I have had in San Diego. Loved the interesting choices, food was cooked perfectly, the taste was extraordinarily delicious. We were so excited about our exceptional gastronomic experience that we spoke with the chef and owners (who were accessible, friendly, and interesting) to tell them how pleased we were with our experience. We will definitely going back, and sharing our "find" with our good friends. Please keep it going - we need more places like this in SD!
Great beer selection. Burrata cheese, proscuitto and persimmon plate was excellent as were the Cuban sandwiches. We also tried the ginger snap ice cream sandwiches and tart of the day (pumpkin); all were very good. The wait staff were helpful and very courteous.
Luv this place and so happy to have in the area!!!
Back for my second visit to Red Card and it did not disappoint. My colleague tried the killer grilled cheese sandwich and fell in love with the 4 cheese combination. I tried the Marguez sausage and found it to be full of flavor. Great ambiance for a business or casual lunch. This hidden gem will not stay hidden for long so don't delay making your first visit.
PS - the yam chips are wonderfully delicious
The duck leg & eggs was good. The duck meat was tender & fell off the bones. The merguez, on the other hand, was underwhelming. It should be listed as an appetizer.
My friend and I had a glass of wine and a few things to share. Interesting ideas on the menu. The servings were small - tasters perhaps. The menu I saw online was different by a few items and more expensive than I was looking for.
So glad to find this place on OpenTable! The menu is full of amazing, re-energized street foods. The Char Siu Pork was absolutely delicious. They also have an extensive on-tap beer list. Service was on point; even the chef was making rounds and talking with patrons. Overall a great experience and definitely recommended - we'll be back!
Food was unique and delicious. Off the beaten path in the up and coming Bay Ho in a business district. recommended.
Red Card is a funky and fun restaurant located in a flex, showroom office park. Foodies and locals will love this place. The menu is excellent and the staff is friendly. It sits in the same location formerly occupied by another popular foodie restaurant, Kitchen 4140. If you like the Kitchen, you need to give Red Card a try. You wil be glad you did.
Perfect Steak Frites! It's such a common menu item but very few get all aspects of it correct. We'll be back soon.
The food is great and the staff is very friendly. Great wine and beer list as well
Always outstanding food service and variety !!!
My wife and I live close and after reading the reviews we thought it would be worth a short trip
Boy it was great and I would drive across town! We split 3 small plates and they hit a home run!
Give this place a try-- you won't be disappointed in the food, service or value!
We tried Red Card during Restaurant Week. The place was very busy and loud. We asked to sit outside to get away from the loud music and diner noise, but there were no unoccupied tables available. The Maitre D was kind enough to actually turn the music off. Never had that happen before!
The waiter was pleasant and attentive and the food was terrific (and an amazing deal: $20 for 3 courses!). My non-desert-loving husband requested a double kale salad to replace his dessert (what a weirdo) and they were happy to accommodate him.
The wait staff is very interested in pleasing the patrons. I am pleased and I will return.
We waited for a couple weeks so they had time to get settled. Went for SDRW. What a treat, 3 course meal for $20. Yes please. Started with delightful batch of yam chips. They were simply dressed with sea salt, which you could taste and added to the yam/sweet potato flavor. Came with dipping sauce, but we skipped that mostly. Next beet salad. Perfectly dressed with a lovely portion of burrata. Again nicely seasoned. I chose the cripsy skin salmon on a bed of cauliflower (rice style) and braised bok choy. Salmon skin perfectly crisp with a hint of red chili flakes. Again seasoning was perfectly balanced. Dessert was lemon tart. Work on the crust a bit because the lemon curd was delicious. Great meal, delicious iced passion fruit tea as well.
4 of us stopped in last night during restaurant week and enjoyed some great food. The hot dog, steak frite, crusted salmon and mole tacos was very good. They also have a great selection of local beers.
