I made a reservation at Red Ash back in February—three months in advance—for our 1-year wedding anniversary. I specifically requested a romantic table in a nice spot, and yet when we arrived, we were told our reservation was for bar seating. I would never intentionally book bar seating for any dinner, let alone an anniversary. Sitting at the bar at a fine dining restaurant is the opposite of classy, and it completely killed the mood before the evening even started. To make things worse, the bottle of wine we had picked out from the menu wasn’t even available. No heads-up, no alternative suggestion—just a shrug and “we’re out.” For a place of this caliber, that’s just sloppy. As for the food—it was just okay. For all the hype this place gets and the price point, I expected something outstanding. But honestly, it’s not hard to serve bread and pasta. The pasta, which was supposedly made fresh daily, came out undercooked and hard. Definitely not what you’d expect from a restaurant of this reputation. I’ve lived in Austin for 5 years and constantly heard people rave about Red Ash. Coming from New York, where Italian food is on another level, I avoided it for years because I didn’t want to be disappointed. Sadly, I caved—and now I regret it. This was supposed to be a memorable night, and instead it felt like a missed opportunity. No celebratory gesture, no extra touch—nothing to make us feel like our occasion mattered. Almost every other restaurant in Austin we’ve been to has treated us better on a regular night, let alone for something special. We won’t be back. And I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

It was our first time at Red Ash. YUMMY! we enjoyed the meatballs and the 1/2 chicken the most, closely followed by the carrots and beet fennel salad. I am sure many other dishes are as excellent as the ones we enjoyed!

I’ve eaten there several times before. It’s one of my favorite restaurants. This visit was probably the best it’s ever been. One of the best meals I’ve ever had.

We were rushed from the moment we walked in. Check was put down on the table without requesting it when we still had plates. It’s all about turnover here and not on the customer experience.

Top notch!!! Everything was beyond amazing!!! One of the best anniversary meal celebrations we have had. Thanks for the amazing table over looking the wood fired grill. The server provided wonderful suggestions and impeccable well paced service. The food presentation was beautiful and tasted amazingly delicious.

Have been probably 6-7 times. Normally reliable. Disappointed this time. Red Snapper over cooked and ravioli lukewarm. Nice selection of Italian wines.
