It wasn’t as good as it used to be pre-covid. Food wasn’t that great, we went for an anniversary dinner and they served us in a 6 person table when we made the reservation for two.
Such great flavors and awesome service
Pre-Covid this used to be our favorite restaurant. We booked Red Ash for every special occasion and recommended it as a must-try restaurant to guests and visitors. Unfortunately this is no longer the case, and we will no longer be coming here after last nights mediocre experience. We feel like we got the C-team of service, from front of the house to back of the house. And we feel really bad for saying so because we understand the restrictions must be hard on restaurants.
Here’s the breakdown of what went wrong: 1) I made a note on the reservation that it’s a birthday celebration one week in advance for a Tuesday night and requested our favorite table. They couldn’t make that happen and nobody called to inform me that this table would not available. 2) cocktails were bad and sent them back. Wine was good. 3) Server left us waiting for long periods during the evening and when he did show up his energy was dull. Made us feel like we were at a typical steak house. 4) Food was not what it used to be. The burrata and tomatoes came out cold, like it was straight from the refrigerator and with only one slice of bread. We had to order extra bread to finish it, which we then were charged for. The pasta was good, but nothing special. And the steak was cold and over salted. We really thought we made better food at home. At the end of the night we were told that dessert is gratis because it’s a birthday, but when we ordered a lemoncello our waiter told us that one doesn’t count. Okay, sure. We will pay for the lemoncello.
At the end of the night we were disappointed. It was our first date night since lockdowns and we paid $250 for a lackluster experience. We had put Red Ash at the top of our list for our rehearsal dinner but we no longer trust them to deliver a good experience. We hope this was just a one-off bad night and not the result of a change in management. They used to be so good!
First visit, sat at the bar. Bartenders were super nice, helpful and saved the evening. The Caesar salad was delicious but I thought the small plate dish with chopped meat and mushrooms was marginal at best and would not order it again. Tried the carpaccio which is one of my favorites and I thought it was very average. It had too much pepper, and there was little or no salad. Just not a very good rendition of a popular Italian dish.
Great food and great service
Good as always! Fav spot in Austin
Will definitely be back!
Food was amazing! A little too crowded considering COVID. Overall fantastic experience
We enjoyed the food and the warm and welcoming environment. The selection of the food was great. I am glad they were able to offer more than a typical Italian restaurant.
I have one recommendation for the chef. Please consider adding panna cotta to the list of the deserts.
Red Ash never ceases to impress...food is always outstanding...service perfect... my go to place with clients!
Great food and ambience
Favorite spot! A must try.
The food was amazing ! The salmon was particularly excellent!
Christian and bar team serving us were amazing. Food was awesome.
Red Ash was terrific. One of the best spots in Austin, second only perhaps to Barley & Swine!
All great, as always!
Awesome first experience. Loved our waiter/guide
Food was exceptional, service was wonderful. We ordered a little of everything on the menu and the server set up our experience to bring out the menu items at a certain order so the table wasn’t too crowded and our palates had a well rounded experience.
Our favorite restaurant in Austin. Absolutely incredible food—get the wood fired tomatoes and burrata—and amazing service. Thank you, Red Ash!
One of our favorite spots for Italian in Austin--we were celebrating a birthday and received wonderful service. Thank you!
New Year’s Eve
Red Ash was awesome!!! Go and don't think twice!!
Great place. I went with my husband for dinner and we loved it
We made reservations for a dual birthday dinner for my son and I with the family. The hostess was great, from Turkey, made us feel so welcome and gave us both a b-day card signed by the staff. Was a nice touch. Food was prompt and delicious as the rating said that lead us there. Our waiter a return resident of Cali was very attentive and even gave us comp desert for our cake. We would definitely recommend this place to visitors like us, or anyone that hasn't tried them yet! Bon Appetit!!
Beat food we’ve had in Austin!
Had the ravioli of the day and osso buco. It was one of the most flavorful meals I’ve ever had. Also, their ceasar salad has no peers. The snapper crudo is a fresh burst of flavor to start your meal.
Lauren has been our server at the bar our last few visits, he has great recommendations and always does a stellar job! Thank y’all!
Great food, great service
Very loud, and a little more crowded than we felt comfortable during covid. Not nearly as covid conscious as other establishments in the area.
I've been visiting Red Ash a few times a month since September 2019 (when I moved back to Austin), and it immediately became one of my favorite restaurants here. I think they have one of the most phenomenal menus for wood-fired starters, steaks, pastas, wine, and desserts around. I love their food!! Service is typically exceptional, too. Sunday, December 27th was a sad exception. I ordered the frutti di mare and the pasta was far overdone, along with every piece of seafood in the dish, and otherwise was lacking in depth and flavor. The server didn't come by to check, and was slow to take our requests for additional wine and bread. I was disappointed to notice that the burrata and vine roasted tomatoes (a long-favored staple) no longer features a generous compliment of rich balsamic to offset the other creamy and savory flavors in the dish. There were far fewer wines offered by the glass, and several of my favorite wines had been removed from the menu. The doughnuts have taken a completely different form and are no longer delicate and artisanal, but rather pedestrian. The worst thing about our experience on the 27th was the service. It seemed as if our server forgot about us, or deliberately slowed service so that we were not offered a dessert menu with adequate time to order before close, and when we did order dessert and after-dinner drinks, they started vacuuming and turning the lights on around us as if to hurry us out the door. I was incensed after such a disappointing experience with the food. I really hope Red Ash will get it together, as their prior reputation for exceptional food and service is what's carried them through Covid, and I would like to see more of the same as I hope to continue being a loyal patron in the future.
The food and service was beyond exceeded our expectations. Nice touch to hand sign a birthday card from staff to fiancé for birthday! We’ll be back!
Best Italian food I have had in a long time!
The best food in Austin. Everything we ordered was delicious paired perfectly with impeccable service. Definitely a must visit
Very good experience overall. If we had to nitpick, the food came out a little faster than we’d like (entrees on top of apps that we were currently eating - wanted a little more space between them) but the food itself was delicious. Very happy, will return!
One of the best restaurants in the city! A truly special meal!
A great family Christmas Eve dinner. Everyone was attentive, Zack our server was excellent and fun with great suggestions. Chef and his crew threw down in the kitchen and everything from the carpaccio, the octupus, salads, 55oz steak, pasta and vegetables were amazing. They never let off the gas one dish after another and dessert was amazing! Red Ash is a go to for us and thankful they were open to take care of our family Christmas Eve tradition!
Christmas Eve dinner with friends. Fabulous all the way from food to service and ambiance all the way around.
Wait staff was 5 star and the food was beyond!!! Best Italian food I have had in years.
We have the most perfect Christmas Eve dinner here. Will be back for more special occasions and events!
Simply phenomenal in every respect! Probably the best Italian food in town. The burrata is amazing. Thank you.
