About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Good for special occasions
Sink your teeth into Rare Society - a modern homage to the golden age of the American steakhouse. Chef and owner Brad Wise reimagines vintage upscale dining with a bold, contemporary edge: a wood-fired grill fueled by red oak, an in-house dry-aging program, sustainably sourced seafood, and a progressive cocktail menu that nods to the classics while pushing boundaries.

The space hums with energy - smoke curling from the grill, the scent of fire and flavor wafting through the air. It’s easy to picture a Rat Pack-era dinner party in full swing: elegant, indulgent, just a little unruly.

Rare Society doesn’t just pay tribute to steakhouse tradition - it revives it, reinvents it, and serves it with just a little bit of swagger.

From start to finish, our experience at Rare Society was nothing short of exceptional. The ambience alone set the tone. Stylish, and inviting, perfect for a night out. Our waitress Shawnee, was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout the night, making sure we were well taken care of without being overbearing. The highlight, though, was the manager John. He was extremely knowledgeable and offered fantastic recommendations that truly enhanced our meal. He checked in with us multiple times to make sure everything was perfect, and it was. And the food? A1. Every bite was flavorful, steak cooked to perfection, and beautifully presented, Even the Smoked Old-Fashioned which was prepared table side. You can tell Rare Society takes pride in both service and quality. Highly recommend if you're in San Diego and looking for a top-tier steakhouse experience especially for a date night!

John greeted us like the old friend he has become. Under his care he seats us with Rare Society’s star server Kevin. Tonight with dear friends we began with the warm Maine Lobster as a starter plus that crazy delicious Ceasar salad. Oh, my the flavors were so right. Cowboy steak (topped with shrimp scampi)sliced for all to enjoy. Tasty broccolini and the hat side of special carrots. We ordered a great bottle of red wine. Meal was so spot on. Finally, they brought the “Wild Child homemade ice cream. Stick a fork in Lez !

Excellent service. Professional server aided in our choosing the appropriate entree for our wine. The Executive Board with chef selections of meats was superb. Great evening. 5 stars.

We have been here a couple times and this is my husbands favorite restaurant in San Diego. I personally order the 1/2 chicken and it’s perfection everytime. Highly recommend the rolls and bacon app.

Toughest prime steak I’ve had. Ordered 40 day aged NY and rolls. Rolls looked better than tasted.
