Bit expensive. My son’s hanger steak st medium rate was more rare. We sat at thebar and service was good. I like the place overall. I often go there when I’m in Richmond
From the prosecco on tap to the range of offerings, the food was exceptionally well considered: Nothing completely predictable, yet everything tied loosely to culinary traditions. The service was engaged, friendly, knowledgeable - an experience that reminded us how weak this element is in many other restaurants. Just a super experience.
Amazing!!! This was our second time here, it checked every box. The service was top notch, very professional and welcoming. We started our evening with a couple dozen olde salts, they were perfection. The mignonette is everything, it complements the oysters perfectly with a fresh squeezed lemon and pop of horseradish, umami!!
Our next course was the baked oysters, amazing flavors of basil and a nice crunch. My main course was the Paella. There is your life before this dish and after. I am pretty sure I will crave this sorcery and have to have it often. The broth is so flavorful, the mussels, clams and shrimp are prepared perfectly. The rice has a lovely crunch and amazing flavor and the cream on top is so heavenly you hear angels sing. The beauty of this dish is layers of different flavors and textures prepared perfectly to give you that perfect bite.
My husband ordered the whole wood fired fish on a bed of rice, collards and a shallot topping. Our server filleted the striped bass table side. The fish was so fresh and had flavors of rosemary and lemon. The shallot topping has hints of sweetness that paired perfectly and added to the dish. The collards countered the sweetness with a savory flavor. I grew up southern with collards and never imagined them paired with fish until this evening, I have to say...genius!!! We finished the evening with the peanut butter chocolate gelato, it was the perfect bow on top of our perfect culinary evening. We had the best foodie night, can’t wait to go back!
It's a nice upscale restaurant, but we would not eat there again. Menu was limited, servings were small to moderate. Wine (pinot noir) was expensive but not a very bold body and not very good. Overall the service was excellent, but a dinner for 2 with 1 glass of wine each ended up costing right at $150, tip included. Was not worth it.
Consistently superb from crafted cocktails to fresh oysters to creative entrees flawlessly executed to our fantastic server Aida(?) who made our dinner an event.
They admitted upfront they were understaffed. Getting seated was confused and service was a bit slow as a result. Might be an aberration attributable to a tight job market, or might be systemic -- can't tell from one observation.
It was a great atmosphere and great food, although slightly on the expensive side. Excellent service!
Was really looking forward to first visit to Rappahannock. Arrived a little early but still waited more than 30 minutes past time of reservation to be seated. Ambiance is nice with an industrial trendy vibe. Very busy on a Saturday night. Highlight of the night was the oysters - some of the best I’ve had. All downhill after that. Service was painfully slow, the appetizers were not good, the grilled octopus was like eating smoked rubber. Entrees of paella and grilled scallops were just okay and a bit pricey. The clams and mussels in the paella were the smallest I’ve ever seen! Overall, I’d say the place is over rated. Next time, I’d have a cold beer and some oysters at the bar and head somewhere else for the main course.
Everything about the evening was exceptional. Our seat was near the grill and we observed the great care taken by the staff to insure the presentation was perfect.
The meal was excellent and the waitress was very accommodating.
We will be back and we will recommend it to our friends
Very nice. Got to sit up front. Much appreciate.
Excellent food. Consistent.
We frequent Rappahannock's. We had Nicholas as a server again, he is warm friendly and makes great recommendations. On Sunday, the half off oysters is wonderful. We highly recommend Rappahannocks as well as their other restaurant, Merrior, if your ever in the area out on the Chesapeake Bay.
Hi Mark, thank you for your review! You are a pleasure to host and we can't wait to see you soon!
Excellent food, service, and overall experience. We had a great time.
Thank you for your review, Pam! See you soon.
Excellent food and service! Rappahannock is one of our favorites!
Thank you for the great review!
We had dinner and drinks at Rappahannock before seeing the Richmond Ballet at the Carpenter Theatre. Joe, our server, was courteous and conscientious of our time constraint, but did not rush us. He went over the menu and explained everything very well. We started with cocktails and Sub Rosa bread - I had The Rosalie. My entree was the Bourride. The broth was rich and deep from the fish, oysters and vegetables. It was topped off with a generous piece of bread and soft egg. It was excellent. I enjoyed our girls’ night out and look forward to coming back again. Thank you!
Thank you for the detailed review! I'm glad you enjoyed your evening and we look forward to having you back soon!
Oysters were delicious. Service was impeccable
Thank you for your feedback!
The meal was delicious. Wood grilled fish highly recommended as is the octopus.
Rappahannock is ok - just ok. The service was wonderful - the waitstaff that took care of our table did a fine job. Its just that the food is ok - nothing exceptional for the prices charged. I had the fish stew which had a few potatoes in it, some teeny tiny pieces of fish that were hard to find and maybe 3 oysters in the entire serving. The largest amount of item in the stew was the giant piece of bread they put on top of it. It was disappointing.
Really excellent food, expertly prepared with unique touches on every dish. The oysters and clams were fresh and meaty. The cocktail Snap Dragon is highly recommend if you like pisco. Every entree, sauce, and side we're perfect. The paella rice was crispy on top and soft throughout, perfectly cooked. The tuna was well seasoned. The scallops were nicely seared. Highly recommend the berry frangipani tart. Even stuffed as we were, it was excellent.
The oysters were quite good, the Caesar salad was unique, and the tuna was prepared perfectly. Solid performance.
Best date night ever. Pink bubbles, amazing oysters and fish. The service was impeccable!
Olde Salts are the best!!! Food was terrific and the Rye Manhattan was soothing
My only challenge was getting my tuna cooked through enough. But it was delicious once that was solved and everyone was very nice.
We had both raw and baked oysters. As always, Outstanding! Love the sauces.
Hi Lori, so glad you enjoyed everything! We will see you soon!
It was great! Will return soon!
Thank you Ted!
Food and service was excellent. What a great evening we had!
Thanks Cindy! See you soon!
Everything about Rappahannock is great. We live in LA but have extended stays in Richmond and this is by far our favorite restaurant here. And favorite bar. The bartenders are inventive and skilled, the servers are knowledgable and friendly, and we just love the food. I almost always order the paella which would be delicious even without the unusual and yummy crispy rice on top, and my husband almost always orders the branzino, which is beautifully prepared and presented. It does get noisy, but it's a tolerable hubbub, not an irritating din. Highly recommend for dates, drinks, post-show oyster flight, etc.
Thank you for your detailed review. We will see you back soon! Be sure to try our DTLA location :)
Excellent overall, crab fettuccine was lacking something - however the cobbler was fantastic. Solid presentation, wonderful taste, and everything was served piping hot.
Thank you for your kind words, see you soon!
The service was impeccable; the food was delicious and it was two of my colleagues from out of town first time to this restaurant. It was a vibrant evening - a poplular spot - - will come back!
Katelyn was our server & she was Great! Very knowledgeable about the items on the menu & provided great recommendations. I had the octopus & paella - both were Delicious!
Thank you for your review! We are changing the octopus dish next week, can't wait to have you back to check it out!
Great place for romance and special occasion celebration. Attentive service
Terrific in every way. One of the most comprehensively enjoyable dinner experiences in memory. Great vibe; knowledgeable, personable and enjoyable staff; great recommendations; terrific drinks; terrific food; great pace. Nothing but positives.
Hi Robert, thank you for the detailed review! We can't wait to have you back.
I don't think we ordered well at this restaurant. We were hasty and I think we would have had a better meal if we had ordered their specialties. The location is a bit tough too since it is in a part of town that brings forth a lot of emotion due to the personal struggles some face right outside the restaurant. I would give this restaurant a second chance.
Hello, please look for a private message from us. We would love to hear more details about how we could improve! Thank you.
Overall Good Experience! Good Food, Good Drinks and Great Service! Will try again!
From the cocktails to dessert, everything is yummy, and presented with care. The service is outstanding. We tried the Caviar Yellowfin Tuna Tartare; Fresh Baked Sub Rosa Bread, Sea Salt, Arbequina Olive Oil for starter - all delicious. For dinner we had Pan-Seared Fish; Wood-Grilled Scallops;Wood-Grilled Tuna & Seafood Paella - all perfectly cooked and so good. For dessert we only had room for the delectable Gelati Celesti - a perfect ending to a perfect meal.
Great meal and service. Attentive and knowledgeable server and fresh food!
everything amazing!!! super helpful. was closing but never felt rushed. absolutely delicious dishes. so well conceived constructed and serves. thank you! will go again
We went pretty early in the night, 6ish, so very quiet. Waitstaff was accessible without being too intrusive. entree and small plates were really the same size so I wish we had ordered more but it was lovely
Everything was amazing from cocktails to dessert. The staff was wonderful, the ambiance was warm and inviting, and the seafood would make you question whether your southern mama ever really had any idea how to cook. I highly recommend the wood grilled whole fish. It is difficult to describe how delicious it truly was. We have traveled the world and it was literally the best fish I have ever had. We will definitely return and bring friends.
