We have eaten here many times. The food is always good; the service is always good. The seafood is excellent especially the crab cakes when crab is in season.
The food was great but the service was even better. We sat with Eli at the raw bar and had great conversation. The restaurant is beautiful and only scored ambiance as good as the restaurant was dead. Had it been a little busier it was would’ve been a 5 star experience!!
Great ambiance. Neat place for drinks and appetizers. Note: Portions are quite small. Wine is excellent. Food was tasty! Would go back!
Bar service was very very slow
We had to wait one hour for our table which we had a reservation for.
Great food! We absolutely loved trying the variety of oysters, so delicious. Amazing oyster shooters as well! We will definitely dine here again.
The food was very fresh and well prepared. A little pricey, but pretty much on line with most downtown Charleston restaurants. Ample parking and relatively convenient location.
We love this oyster bar and you cannot beat the happy hour special, the servers are great, bar service has always been very slow and understaffed is when you get your drink immediately order another as it seems to take awhile. None the less the food is so amazing I can overlook the thirst!
Fantastic menu, great space, excellent food. We went very early on a Sunday evening so it was not crowded but I bet it has a lively and energetic vibe during prime dinner times. Will go back for sure and will recommend to visitors.
We had a lovely NYE dinner here! Highly recommend it for any occasion!
Hit and miss with the food. Local bulls bay oysters tasted like the fridge :( Shrimp and grits good but temp not very hot. Interesting place and worth checking out. Baked clams delicious.
We Uber’ed off the beaten path specifically for this place. We reserved a high top table, but the restaurant called before we arrived to inform us that there was only bar seating. When we arrived, we were seated at the bar, but noted many high top tables available...
Our bartender (Jenna) was great! The baked oysters were small but delicious!! When we were ordering our main course, we informed our other bartender (Rob) of my husbands food allergies. Most nice restaurants and their chefs will work with us to accommodate food restrictions- especially seafood restaurants because everything is fresh. However, Rob returned from the kitchen to inform us that my husband would only be able to eat oysters and salad due to his grain allergy. I don’t know if it was the chef or the bartender who didn’t want to accommodate by grilling a simple fish and adding veggies... but we were very disappointed. We had to leave and eat elsewhere :(
Excellent food and great service.
Had a large group in for New Years and made the reservation. Service and food were wonderful.
Nice place. They could be a bit friendlier! No comfy seating for couples, just high pub seats. Food’s fine.
Everything was great, oysters, caviar, octopus, ice cream and service. Will be back!
Get the octopus!! It is amazing!!! Also our waitress was extremely nice and had great recommendations. Their homemade hot sauce was incredible!
We dined on Christmas Eve--a challenge for some restaurants. The staff in the bar - friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Gave us great oyster advice. The oysters were spot on--the Old Salts our favorite. The shrimp ceviche exceptional, with jalapeno, lime and fennel. Housed in a old cigar factory dating back to the 1880s, the atmosphere was hip but true to the area.
Christmas Eve tasting menu was delicious and the staff was absolutely amazing
We plan on returning aoon
Great Christmas Eve dinner! Excellent value for a seven course dinner. Would highly recommend. Easy seating & low noise if with older family.
There was such a large tour group booked there that the noise level was unsavory. The food was excellent and the waitress was really good at staying on top of our needs with so many people in the restaurant. I expected a lively vibe on Christmas Eve, but seeing the huge group with tags around their necks was not what I expected. It detracted from an otherwise exceptional lunch. Plus, we received word that we did not honor our reservation from OpenTable and that was totally incorrect.
Loved the food and the service was great! Our son from Maryland enjoyed the seafood.
Wonderful! The entire experience is first rate...from the General Manager, Kyle's, welcome, to the Chef, Kevin, and Melissa the bar manager everyone made our evening delightful. Oh, and the food is fantastic...fresh seafood and some of the best grits I have ever had. Highly recommended.
The best meal I've had in a long time at a restaurant. Wide variety of choices so there's something for everyone. Lambs and clams was one of our favorite dishes of the night but all 6 of us were very pleased with our food. Service was fast and friendly. Parking was available.
Make reservations to sit at the bar so you can chat with the top notch bartenders while you eat creative, perfectly prepared seafood dishes. Make sure to try Mel’s egg nog as a finishing touch to dinner fit for a foodie.
PERFECTLY cooked seafood. Great service. Good, creative cocktails. An all-around excellent restaurant for seafood lovers.
We dined here for brunch on Saturday. The shrimp and grits were amazing - unexpected and superb. We also had two dozen oysters, mix of all the available selection. They did not disappoint. Very fresh and delicious. Will definitely go bsvk
Just did not like the menu or food. Waiter hovered constantly and did not read our table or desire to be left slone
Super wait staff. Great oysters. Nice menu choices.
Great meal with excellent service.
This was a huge disappointment .......we had a 12:30 reservation for lunch the day after Thanksgiving. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. From there, it was all downhill. The service was so slow it was ridiculous. Our server was very nice and tried hard but nothing was moving. It took about 20 minutes to get a drink. The food came out at 2:00. We were repeatedly told everyone was “backed up”.....no kidding.....but that should be the restaurant’s problem, not ours. My husband’s burger was cold. The oysters were good but the tuna tartare and beet salad was all beets and no tuna. The trout was very good, I was told. One of our party went to the bar to get a glass of wine after waiting for a good long time. The manager seemed totally disinterested while watching this disastrous scene play out. I am afraid he took it out on our server. He should have come over to apologize instead of just standing around. It will be a very long time before we go back, if ever.....we had out of town guests and were totally embarrassed . There are lots of other restaurants in town .......
Rappahannock holds up well as a more casual alternative to The Ordinary. Dishes are fresh and explore new flavors in ways that your average fried seafood shack doesn't. Highly recommend the ceviche and oyster stew, of course in addition to the raw oyster selection (mix of Virginia-sourced and local).
Everything we ordered was perfect. The dessert was unbelievable.
Great atmosphere, food, and service!!
Oysters were great and the service was better. But you just try the Octopus!!!!
TLC. That’s what my wife and I needed after landing back home in Charleston after traveling to my mom’s funeral services. We knew we’d get Tender Loving Care from General Manager Kyle and his team at Rappahonick and that’s exactly what they delivered.
Warm, welcome service... great food, including the best oysters in town and some of the coolest, hard to find wines that you can enjoy.
I highly recommend this restaurant and their happy hour specials are excellent!
Always perfect food and service! The caviar set up is wonderful- great treat for a special night!
The oyster stew should be a larger portion.
Excellent ambiance and good food. While very good food, it is overpriced for what it is. Love the venue!!! Parking is easy. Portions small.
