Great spot for date night. Oysters were fantastic. Chef had an interesting take on shrimp and grits. My wife didn't care for it, but some seemed to love it. Started with fish dip and bread plate. Both were spot on! I had delicious oysters. I'd come back and recommend this restaurant.
It is worth every penny we spent. Service was outstanding and I do not say that often. Food was great as well. If you are looking for a good meal, it is worth going a little off of King St. or East Bay to have one of the better meals I've had in Charleston.
First time here and it was quite busy and very NOISY! We enjoyed our raw oyster selection but were disappointed in the quality and quantity of the seafood entrees we ordered compared to the price. We were expecting more food for the money.
Great decor, service and food. Celebrating my mother’s 83rd birthday and she wanted a raw bar tower. We shared the large tower and had some small plates (the tuna and beet tartare was out of this world). Desserts were also delicious. John was very attentive and was a great server. We will be back
Consistently good food and service. Very fresh seafood options that are creatively prepared. Really enjoy dining here.
Menu is not expansive. Shrimp and grits were the worst we had ever had. Undercooked shrimp, a few had shells and the entire meal was black from black garlic and ink. Oysters were fine.
The only place in town with an oyster selection from across the US. We had the "beaver tails" and some from Virginia (forgot the name), along with the flounder, grilled octopus and a couple of other items. The presentation was perfect. Excellent service along with excellent food... just what we asked for. Thanks
We have always loved oysters so Rappahannock was an easy choice. We have been twice now and each time we have been VERY pleased. This past time our waitress (Marty D) was extremely knowledgeable and helpful - all of her recommendations were spot on! We had the oysters (raw variety), caviar - (a MUST try for anyone - like us - who had never had real fresh caviar before), beef tartare - absolutely delicious, & the fish milanese (made with flounder - paired with a decadent remoulade). Sidenote: if you are a fan of oyster shooters Rappahannock has the best I have ever tasted in their Vodka shooter - made with vodka and their mignonette.. spot on! Overall, will highly recommend to anyone looking for a high quality seafood experience.
Great food and a great atmosphere. A bit loud in the bar area as expected, but quieter in the dining area if you want.
It was a busy weekend in Charleston and I was able to make a reservation from reading reviews.....glad we did. It was wonderful. The service was great and we even had assistance choosing the perfect wine to go with our meal from their Som.
The food and the service get better every time I dine here. Melissa, the bar manager could not have provided better service and pairing recommendations along with the bartenders and shuckers. Although it is predominantly a seafood restaurant my husband stated that the skirt steak was the best he had every had. A unique sauce on the flounder dish with roasted vegetables was simply delicious. The grilled oysters are a must with the smoked butter along with a flight of bread. I can not wait to go back again.
Food and service were outstanding, every dish, especially the soft shell crabs, octopus and flounder and of course the oysters were outstanding. The lemon bar dessert was to die for. Service was the best we have had recently...Charlotte I think took great care of us. The prices were steep especially for the oysters but not outlandish for Charleston.
First visit here. Great oysters and baked flounder. Easy to get to. Great job!
We made a reservation through Open Table, but arrived a little early before our table was ready. The fish display case was very interesting with four varieties of fresh fish on display. I assumed that there might be a fish of the day or market catch on the menu, but there wasn’t that option other than one menu selection for a whole fish. The noise level was loud - brick walks and an open ceiling ensure that. It was too loud for easy conversation. The food was good - the portions were moderate. The shrimp and grits were different with the shrimp colored black with squid ink. The scallops were large and well prepared. The desserts we tried were the s’mores, which is served in a jar with chocolate pudding topped with crumbled graham crackers, then topped with marshmallow. The lemon bar was interesting and topped with grapefruit supremes. The ice cream sampler was tasty with a more icy than creamy texture. We aren’t actually oyster fans, but they have different varieties to try. They also sell a variety of dry goods like Carolina gold rice and geechee grits.
Awesome seafood, great service
Second time at Rappahannock and very pleased with both visits. The oysters are great, but everything else we've tried has been fantastic as well, including the drinks. The charred octopus was my favorite, brilliantly done.
Native Virginians, we were excited to find Rappahannock Oyster in Charleston. The oysters are deep-cupped and thin shelled, making for the perfect balance of sweet and briney. The wait staff is well-educated in all that the restaurant offers.
I found this restaurant on Yelp. It was a quick walk from our hotel on Market Street. They had delicious local oysters and very creative appetizers. The server was super friendly and very informative. He was also very attentive with our water and cracker wrappers that my nephew was accruing in the corner. Was very glad to find this neighborhood gem. Located in a cigar factory. Very nice place. Great food and delicious food! Highly recommend!
Great place for shared plates and a bottle of wine with friends! They also had excellent cocktails including a surprisingly delicious beet and bourbon drink!
Our server was very attentive & helpful. She had excellent suggestions. The fish ceviche was the best I’ve had in Charleston!! It was fresh with bright flavors!!
Love this place
Awesome seafood and great fries
The food was amazing we had a bunch of oysters and they where great. The whole fish was amazing, the bread and mussel were really good. The service was very good
Oysters were fresh and delicious. Service was fantastic. The jalapeño butter was such a surprise. The grits made me want to lick the bowl.
We loved it! Everything we ordered was amazing!!!! The atmosphere and service were great as well.
Out of the way seafood gem - every menu item we tasted was very good to excellent. All fresh and freshly made.
Great service; plenty of parking, good beer choice (including local brews).
We (far-out-of-towners) will definitely be back next time we're in Charleston.
Marty was great! Queen of Sunday brunch. Delicious drinks, really fresh shellfish. The best oyster stew I've eaten anywhere, and I've had a lot.
The oysters were delicious but a little pricey for being on the smaller side. The dishes we sampled were excellent and our server was genuine and efficient. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed, a very enjoyable dining experience!
The best seafood we ever had.
The oysters were delicious & waitstaff delightful, knoweledageable
Delicious! And great service. Neat restaurant worth venturing away from King Street for.
My husband and I had a great dinner on our first night in Charleston (Sunday). The ambiance is great. Our waiter John was even better.. BUT...the food was thebeat of all. Started with wonderful grilled oysters in jalapeno butter, and smoked fish dip with crispy, spicy crackers. I had sea scallops over Gold Rice Polenta with sauteed jicama sprinkled with a spice blend with just enough heat. Some of the best scallops and one of the best overall scallops dishes I've ever tasted. My husband equally delicious Lambs & Clams...a very original dish with steamed clams, pigeon peas, lamb sausage and a very tasty sofrito sauce with wonderful crusty bread for dipping. We highly recommend you make a reservation this superb foodie experience.
Excellent seafood selection. Service was fabulous!
Each time we have been here we have totally enjoyed the food, the ambience and the service.
I can’t say enough good things about our experience at Rappahannock. The food was 10/10. The dishes were unique, balanced, and delicious. The service-from the hostess, to the manager, to the wait staff-were professional, gracious, and accommodating. We will definitely be returning!
The food and service were superior!
Good food but quite expensive
The whole fish is a must. Choice of oysters was great. A really good meal was had.
Great food and service! Not inexpensive, but worth it!
the food was good. Fresh seafood. Great caviar and muscles. Good service. Great restaurant
Menu selection is minimal, service was good, a little slow on serving food. Ok for light lunch, probably would not return for dinner.
