Really happy with all the food and the place was bumpin! Got a old or corked glass of wine but it happens and they fixed it. I'll be going back.
Incredibly creative food without being weird. Try it!
Second time in. Food is FRESH and well prepared. Oysters are off the chart. Lived here all my life and easily one of the best values for the $$. Highly recommend the fresh catch.
Everything about Rappahannock was great, except it was VERY cold inside!
We had a wonderful table but were disappointed that our order wasn’t served for over 1 1/2 hours. The restaurant was so dismayed they didn’t charge us for our meal. We did drink enough wine to make it and enjoyable evening.
For a first-time three-some, this new restaurant was pretty terrific! We shared a mixed dozen of raw oysters, then went on to large plates.
Scallops were totally mediocre, but lambs and clams was spectacular and shrimp and grits (a Charleston staple) very, very good, Service was stellar, so forget the scallops. Cannot wait to go back!
Food was very good. Server was very nice, however, bar and kitchen were incredibly slow. It’s a shame because the food was so good.
Chef Kevin Kelly serves outstanding and innovative dishes.
Kudos to him and his staff.
Food was great. Service was a little slow. However the fish master took the time to filet my 81 yr old mother’s red snapper. She loved it. Both the caviar and the oysters were great. My husband loved the octopus. We’ll definitely return.
The food and service have always been great- so as locals this is our go to oyster bar. Located in the old cigar factory, the restaurant decor is beautiful, merging historic elements with the latest in technology, presentation , and style. What is most impressive is the proper and professional way in which the shucker shucks the oysters maintaining all of the oyster liquor- this is the primary way to distinguish a professional shucker, and an oyster bar itself. Steve, is not only the best shucker at Rappahannock, but in my opinion the best shucker on the East coast.
It goes without saying that Steve maintains the oyster liquor in each oyster, but he also carefully wipes down the ‘lip’ of the oyster, so that all you get is the briny oyster and liquor without any shell. This extra effort, along with his meticulous presentation skills elevates Steve form a pro to a master! I travel all over the US and Canada for a living, so I have had the opportunity to dine at the best restaurants ranging from from Michelin, to James Beard, to the best local dives, and Steve and Rappahannock (in Charleston, SC) are the best.
Beyond oysters, they offer several unique and locally made menu items including, fresh caught fish and shellfish, and their homemade fish dip, hot sauce, and outstanding Bloody Mary mix!
Food marginal quality, very noisy, parking tight, expensive.
Celebrated our daughter's 40th birthday here and our party of four couldn't have been happier. The space is cool and vibrant, the service was spot on, and the food, absolutely delicious. We had two rounds of the dozen Rappahannock oysters - so fresh. We also ordered to share - four different small plates, two sides, one entree and the bread side with the smoked jalapeno butter. And of course, the moon pie cake for dessert to sing happy birthday. We can't wait to go back during their famous happy hour to enjoy the oysters again, this time at happy hour prices, which will make the outing that much more fun - LOL! In answer to the question of would we recommend to a friend - resounding yes!
The service was outstanding. Preston was our waiter and we loved him . Food was incredibly good. Loved the smoked jalapeno butter with the bread. Fish was very fresh. Definitely would go back.
Absolutely the BEST shrimp we’ve ever had!
Great raw bar with a nice variety of local oysters and clams. All in a great old building that will soon be a hot spot.
This is one of our favorite places to go. The food is great, and the service and atmosphere are wonderful. Not to mention, easy parking!
Service was great. Food was horrible and we’ve had this many times before. Fire tonight’s chef!
Our waitress Maria and the manager were very attentive. Service and food were excellent! We tried scallops, shrimp and grits, fish and octopus at our table and all were wonderfully prepared!
The grilled redfish was incredible. Server was knowledgeable about oysters and had great recommendations.
We had lots of options but chose Rappahannock‘ story celebrate our anniversary. We chose well!
Love this place. One of our “go to” spots. Staff is wonderful too!
We enjoyed our visit but were disappointed with the few seafood options. Being a "fish market", I wrongly assumed there would be more fish options.
Have been here several times, it appears the proportions have gotten smaller, salad very small and ordered half pound of shrimp and was served 6, believe should have been 9 or 10 as in the past.
Oysters were WONDERFUL and the "shucker" made sure they were clean with no shell etc. Will DEFINITELY go back ASAP.
Only draw-back was I wanted the seared octopus which is only served after 4.
If you want “raw”, I would recommend it. The oyster stew was very good. I ordered a salad, but it was covered in pickled onions, which was not listed as an ingredient. It’s noisy, but it’s a raw bar! Pretty good.
Delish. Fab staff.
If you go to Charleston you usually want fresh shellfish, etc. This restaurant fits the bill. A great variety of fresh oysters served raw or cooked to your liking. They also usually have daily fish specials. Some interesting sides but fish is the star.
Fantastic seafood. Best overall food of our trip.
Very enjoyable. Excellent oyster selection
We so enjoyed our lunch here.Preston was such a nice waiter. The grilled oysters were wonderful. The bread flight amazing. We had a party of 5 and everything that each ordered was so good.We look forward to another visit here on our next trip to Charleston.
Service was terrific - we did a ‘little bites’ selection and were able to try many items in the menu! Great food and fun!
Our server Preston salvaged the dining experience for us!!
Service was good. Took a long time for food to come out and oysters took 30 minutes.
The steak was perfect and sea food was good. Service was great.
I was especially pleased with the excellent food, wine, and service because I was unexpectedly dining solo at prime dinner time on Valentine's Day. The baked clams, and the smoked fish dip were exactly as they should be, and the S'mores dessert was perfect. All was as it should be, on an extremely busy week night.
Food and service were great. Noisy but that was ok. Went for Valenyines Day with my valention of 56 years.
Amazing good! Great happy hour deals! One comment: the sauce that the mussels was served in was not very good. Other that than, amazing!!!
Quite honestly one of the best meals we've had in awhile. Will definitely be back!
Simply wonderful on every level. We enjoy bringing family and friends to introduce them to the consistently excellent food and service...so innovative!
Service was only 4 stars because we sat a booth and were ignored for 5-10 minutes until we moved to the bar. Once there service was excellent and so was the food.
Great food and drinks
Party of 6 and everyone was happy
Good kid menu options too
