About Rappahannock Oyster Bar - Charleston
Travis and Ryan Croxton debut their spinoff from the highly acclaimed Rappahannock Oyster Bar at Union Market in Washington, DC. They’ve even brought their DC Chef, Kevin Kelly, to man the kitchen at this outpost. This location in the historic Cigar Factory Building on East Bay Street, allows room for Chef Kelly to showcase more of his cuisine to a larger audience, including an incredibly unique 40 seat raw bar. Oysters grown by the Croxton’s own Rappahannock Oyster Company are accentuated, but Kelly’s signature dishes like lambs’n’clams, crabcakes, shrimp & grits and the best po’ boy you’ll ever eat are enough reasons in their own right for constant visits. Coupled with a great cocktail program and focus on local ingredients, ROB is a great place for any occasion.

Rappahannock Oyster Bar - Charleston Ratings and Reviews
Oysters are the best thing about this place! Our service was fair but I think the kitchen was having difficulty getting food out due to the number of customers tonight
Whole snapper was great, small trout dish was nice but short rib small plate was somewhat salty.. overall a nice evening. will return another time but not on the weekend
Fun restaurant with lots of great seafood choices. Tried the seafood platter, which was great, along with a bread flight.(not that impressed) and a couple main dishes (including an interesting take on shrimp and grits that we loved). It's a popular place and the noise level can get high, I wouldn't recommend it for someone looking for a quiet or secluded spot. Servers were friendly and attentive.
This is a great find. Authentic seafood restaurant (meaning the food depends on the catch and it isn't fried) with a good ambience. The oysters are fantastic and we squeaked into the happy hour pricing. The service is friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back.
Our experience at Rappahannock was very pleasurable, although the meal lasted 3 hours. We were in no hurry, because it was family celebrating Christmas. My only complaint is that they would not accept my $25 dining certificate from Open Table. I was very confused about this, as I had made the reservation through Open Table, and as it comes to your phone as a gift card, all they would have needed to do was punch in the numbers. Very strange. Maybe they need to be educated on how this works.
The food was great and the service was even better. Delicious selection of oysters and seafood plates! Not many options for vegetarians, but being an oyster bar, I didn't expect much. The salad was really good and the rest of our group really loved the shrimp and grits and the lamb and clams! Everyone was very satisfied!
Amazing seafood! Not over done but pure, clean, fabulous food! We love this place and brought our family here from out of state over the holidays - it was even better than the last time. Must try - their unique shrimp and grits and octopus!
Very Casual very delicious!
My mom and I went out for a birthday dinner at Rappahannock. We decided to try an oyster bar for something a little bit different than our usual cuisine. We had some questions about the oysters and a couple of other items on their menu. Our server was very friendly, knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions. The food was fantastic! A nice twist in the traditional southern dishes. Would highly recommend!
We stumbled upon this restaurant after a friend recommended it. We had limited amount of time before we had to go to the airport to pick up a friend, but the food came out fast and was wonderful. I highly recommend the grilled oysters and the beer mussels. We loved this restaurant so much we came back again before our flight home.
We visited on a quiet Monday night so the place wasn’t very busy. Rappahannoc’s menu is strongly seafood oriented as you would expect and they do a very nice job with impeccable service. The oyster choices were excellent and entrees creative. The only caution i have is that the place can get rather pricey. Dinner for two with a dozen oysters, two small plates, and three glasses of House Wine each came to over $120 exclusive of tip.
