Rappahannock Oyster Bar - Charleston
Friday and Saturday 11:30am-11:00pm
Yummy shrimp and grits - best in Charleston!
Fantastic staff and service! The food dishes were well explained and the presentation was flawless!
We brought our children (12, 9, 9). They had to be willing to try a few new things but overall was a great experience for our family. Not too quiet and not too stuffy or "fancy" has our kids call it. Service was excellent as were all our food choices. I would recommend the whole fish and the shrimp and grits.
Enjoy our meal . Great selection of seafood . Definitely will return .
Great service, very good food with a great variety. Ambience was great!
We were visiting from out of town and found this to be a very nice restaurant. The food was excellent, and our server, Jeff, was very accommodating and engaging. The Vermillion snapper special was excellent, and the oysters were excellent as well. We would definitely return to this restaurant.
Saw the item o Fox Biz News Strange inheritance great story.
Outstanding oysters privately farmed at a good price point. Creative high-quality seafood menu and good variety of small and large plates. Service was friendly but not error-free even though they were not that busy. Good recovery. A bit off the beaten path but that is a good thing - fewer tourists and free parking lot. Overall excellent experience and we would return.
Limited menu, entrees come without any sides which made the pricing a little above average.
Service was excellent, food tasty but the only negative is the pricing and the limited menu.
Limited shrimp items.felt like a bar with oysters. Young crowd heaven
Great restaurant! One of our favs while in Charleston. Best seafood! Will definitely return. I was very impressed!
Found this restaurant on Open Table our first night of 7 staying on Kiawah Island. Our meal was outstanding and we liked it so much we came back a second time later on the week. Creative takes on Low Country classics, great service and vibe. It's a bit off the beaten tourist path of Market Street which works for me.
This was our first visit, but It will not be our last. The shrimp and grits was amazing.
Extremely nice staff. Cool restaurant with great music (Queen and Alt rock) and ambiance. Food was prepared well and very fresh. The scallops were perfect. Waitress was a delight and very friendly and attentive. Easy parking for a downtown restaurant in Charleston.
AMAZING. Nothing else needs to be said. If you don't go here you are missing out on a great restaurant that has FREE PARKING DOWNTOWN!
This a fun place to enjoy a casual date night. We started with the happy hour special oysters which are presented with two sauces, lemon, crackers, and a special house made hot sauce. The oysters along with savory churros from the bar menu started us off. We moved on the whole beeline snapper: I can't say enough about how beautiful and well prepared this fish is. Outstanding. After eating my half of the fish, I passed it over to my husband so he wouldn't miss out. He had the freshly made fettuccini with squid ink and Calamari to exchange. Wow! Two great dishes, perfect for sharing. The ambience is great, there is ample parking out front, our server was well trained and enthusiastic, and the drinks were cold and good. Rappahannock should be near the top of every locals list of favorite restaurants. Also, they are offering local oysters that are available year round now, "low country cups", so if you need a properly salty oyster in July, they have you covered.
Overpriced for mediocre food. Management very unaccommodating. We arrive 10 minutes before happy hour ended at 7pm. Server came immediately and failed to inform us of happy hour options. When we discovered it in the menu 1 minute after 7pm we asked manager for concession since we were not aware or informed, he basically said tough luck.
I won’t recommend or patronize again.
Awesome food. We sat at the bar hoping for a more intimate dining experience - server was terrible! It took them close to 15 min to notice us (restaurant was not busy at all). He was inattentive, not friendly, not hospitable. But, the food was still awesome - grilled oysters, ceviche. Cool restaurant too - awesome decor.
We had the absolute best meal. The service was impeccable and the dessert (s’mores!) was to die for. We love to order from the happy hour menu before 7 and then split several small plates for our meals.
2 couples enjoyed dinner. Menu with many different seafood selections. Will be returning
Attentive staff - especially our waiter. Great sense of humour and knowledgeable with recommendations. Had the grilled whole fish - split the dish with another and ordered sides. Fish was nicely prepared - a little bland for my taste. Table-side prep was not that smooth - lot's of bones (it was snapper). Coleslaw side was nice; grits were tasty. Nice wine list. Oysters were FANTASTIC!
Overpriced. Nice rustic modern atmosphere, great service, but oysters were pricey, charred octopus expensive for the portion, and radicchio salad too bitter, hardly any dressing - I could have prepared better myself. Kinda loud for conversation — ceiling needs sound absorption tiles or other solution.
It was my forst time dining there. I reserved a table for 8 for my birthday and the place did not disappoint! From the oysters to the charred octopus, to the beer mussels, and the scallops, they were like butter in your mouth! The skirt steak was perfect and very filling! I loved every bit of it. We shared a lot of the food as I am sure you are reading this and wondering how I ate that much, well, we all sampled eachothers. We ordered almost all the desserts and every single one of them was gone! Our server was excellent and he was very patient with all of us. Being a server myself, it was very appreciated and I have already recommended many to visit this place!
We had a great lunch. The waitstaff was knowledgeable about the selections and extremely helpful in helping us to decide what to order.
Great atmosphere! Raw Oysters and stuffed clams were great. Wait staff knowledgeable and helpful.
Our sever, Marty was excellent in that her recommendations for food and wine were spot on!!! The wreck fish was one of the best dishes I have had in a while. It was so fresh and we enjoyed the oysters on the half shell too! Thank you for a fun evening with delicious food!
The food and service was good this is the 2nd time I have eaten at this location
Absolutely amazing seafood in taste and presentation. Friendly staff, great at making menu recommendations. Don't forget to get a side of grits!
Fantastic Time, oysters shooters were amazing. Oysters were fast and the hot sauce was incredible!
Awesome place, maybe one of the best food that I have ever try.
The service was excellent, Jeff was super nice all the time. The price is good , I will be back by sure
My wife and I had a great time. The atmosphere was great and food was delicious. Parking was real easy since there was a parking lot right there
Food good, service sucks
Once again the food was AMAZING! .. we had oysters and grouper ceviche. We could eat this every night !
Fantastic oysters and assortment of seafood. We shared a platter of 6 different types of oysters. Waitstaff very knowledgeable. Ambiance perfect!
We booked our reservation here rather last minute and boy did we hit the jackpot!! There were 7 of us dining and our experience was nothing short of exceptional. Our server, Caroline was awesome and the manager made sure that we were at a comfortable table and checked in on us a few times. We were all in agreement that it was the best meal we had had in a long, long time (and this is coming from 7 foodies from Atlanta). Highly recommend!
Overall our dining experience was excellent. Oysters were delightful, charred octopus was very flavourful and tender. As well the scallops were melt in your mouth delicious. The damn yankee IPA was right on for the meals selected.
Leon’s has cheaper oysters and a livelier crowd.
Arrived on time. Food came out all separate. Some people were done with their dinner before other people’s food even hit the table. Very empty even though Open Table said they were full. Bartender was inattentive and didn’t fill drink orders or close our tab. We had to ask a manager to close our bar tabs
We sat at the bar and The service was outstanding. The raw oysters were great. The grilled oysters were tremendous. The shrimp and grits were delicious and very different than any I’ve ever eaten. The grouper was superb.
Highly recommend a return trip.
If you want raw oysters this place would probably be good - maybe it's better at
night - friends had non-seafood sandwiches for lunch - they seemed satisfied. I found
a side dish uneatable - the "flight" of bread is $6 and was so hard and tasteless it was
a waste. I won't be going back here -- I recognize it gets good reviews and some folks
obviously like this place. guess it depends on the day and what you order...
