I have considered Rappahannock to be one of my favorite restaurants in Charleston for some time. But my dining experience there recently did not meet my expectations. As opposed to other restaurants, no one on the staff was wearing a face mask, for making any real attempt at social distancing when that is possible. They did have the tables spread out, but our server was right up to the table in describing things on the menu. Service was acceptable but somewhat desultory, particularly considering the small number of people dining. If Rappahannock wants to get my business back, they need to adopt facemarks and distancing.
Great service and fabulous seafood!
It was great to see Rappahannock reopened for dine-in service. It was well organized. The new menu was very good.
Food was great but we went on a Monday and they were out of a lot of menu items
We had an amazing experience. We ordered 2 dozen of the Virginia oysters and they were some of the cleanest, buttering delicious oysters we have ever had. The meals were all great portions, and everyone was happy. Their oyster hot sauce is something to swoon over. Beautiful restaurant under good management and attentive staff.
Good service and attention to detail. Rappahannock River oysters were excellently cleaned and had a nice sweet freshwater flavor. Decor and ambiance was also very nice both inside and out.
Oysters and service with excellent and the atmosphere was just right
It was our first night out as a couple in months and months. We made reservations, and they called earlier in the day to confirm. We got immediately seated, and they treated us like valued guests. The waitstaff was very attentive and nice. The food was insanely good. Oysters were super good – we liked the river oysters over the salt water ones, but both were A+. The architecture in the building where the restaurant is located is so lovely. Just an overall great experience.
Best oysters!!! Fresh and beautifully presented! We also had the most amazing crab cakes and fabulous cheesecake! The building is rustic and cool - the staff is really nice. Great indoor bar and outdoor seating as well.
Love returning to see the team ! Crab Cale season !!!!
Menu and service is incredible!
Everything was delicious and the service was great!
Great oysters cold beer
Accommodating during a tough period. Service is good, food was tasty. Great wine list geared towards the menu. Well done!!
Very nice atmosphere. Attentive wait staff. Food was exquisite.
This is our second visit. I had six oysters on the half shell to begin and they were excellent. They were fresh and served with the right condiments (although I don't use them much). My wife had the shrimp and grits and it was OK; nothing out of this world. The shrimp are black when they are served because of the black garlic they put on them. Honestly, I think they are trying to hard to "fancy up" shrimp and grits. The black garlic and the peppers did little, if anything, to enhance or add to the flavor. The grits were good.
Since the fish in the fish and chips order was flounder, I ordered that. It was excellent. The breading was minimal and the fish was moist, flaky, and flavorable. Chips were excellent.
If you are interested, no one wore masks or gloves. We didn't mind, but you might.
Loved this place. Oysters were great and service was amazing.
They ran out of everything including oysters and the food was bland
They are doing a great job of keeping everyone safe. Cleaning regularly, spacing tables, protective mask, etc. AND... the meal was excellent!!
Great experience & incredible food! Highly recommend for an occasion. Service was impeccable!
Great service by Katie. Food amazing. Will return soon!
Girl’s Night Out
Excellent oysters, great service and we appreciate Happy Hour.
Great food and amazing service! This was our first time here, but we will definitely be back
Rappahannock has EASILY become one of my favorite restaurants in Charleston. Free parking, Amazing food, and a great atmosphere....What else do you want? I was here on Friday for Pre-Birthday Oysters which are $1/Piece during Happy Hour, and came back Sunday night for my actual Birthday Dinner! Can't get enough!
Great find off the beaten path in Charleston, creative menu, with plenty of oysters to choose from, hot and cold, I think we ordered them all. I went with the grilled fish, which was Black Grouper that night, very fresh, and tasty. If you want a quality evening with fresh fish choices, this is the place to go. I will be back when in Charleston, as my son is a C of C student.
Skip the ceviche. Taste is excellent but very little seafood in it. Our portion was mostly the juice with 5 or 6 small pieces of fish, shrimp in it. Not $16 worth! The fish and chips were excellent! Fish this day was flounder and there was a hearty portion and it was beautifully cooked. Service was just ok.
Always a winner!
A completely wonderful oyster bar experience. Delish!
Dozen mixed oysters, shrimp and grits, peel & eat shrimp and homemade Earl Grey ice cream! All excellent as was the beer selection.
The most perfectly cooked grouper I’ve ever had. No need for a to go box
Definitely worth going to again. We took my parents there for dinner during Charleston Food and wine. Ended up getting on the road a little late, I called to let them know and I was old not to worry. We got there our table was ready and waitress was on hand to take drink orders.
Grilled oysters were so good we had to order another set, clams were good, and the bread basket was great in being able to sop up juices from the mussels in beer broth. Everyone including the GM was great who waited on us, and we will definitely come back again.
The oysters were Devine!
Happy hour oysters are always a great deal, steamed shrimp were quite good as the grits and collards.
This is a great place for oysters. While other are offering just one or two in this "between season" these guys have a large selection of quality products. The food and service was top notch. We dined here on a Sunday and it was not packed, which is a good experience in Charleston.
The oysters were great but not outstanding. However e freah whole fish was very memorable !!!
Amazing food and service and great location with parking
It was my fiancé’s birthday.
We had a table of 9 and that were visiting from all over the USA. The experience was excellent!
Was really underwhelmed. I've heard such great stuff and was just kind of mediocre. The fish dip was good and the proteins were great but the pairings were odd and seemed off the shelf like out of the bottle teriyaki sauce with a steak and frozen fries...sad since the proteins were so good! It's like a chain restaurant had a good protein purveyor...
