Though we had the reservation, we still had to wait for 15 mins. Not expected.
It's a very good place! Tea leaf salad is an amazing dish.
Excellent food and service with genuine hospitality. Thank you.
It’s our second time - loved it! Service and food were excellent. One minus - noise and cold from the opened door to the street. Hostess was busy and didn’t have a chance to direct people standing by the opened door. Next time will be try to make when it’s a bit warmer.
Outstanding food and wine list. We had a reservation for 4 and had 2 additional colleagues join us at the last minute. Luckily there was a table that sat 6 and the hostess was very kind in accommodating a last minute request.
We decided to order and eat "family style" which was excellent. We knew that the Tea Leaf Salad was a given, and asked the waiter for his recommendations, and we decided upon: Lemongrass Chicken, Basil Chili Beef, Burmese Pad Thai, Pumpkin Pork Stew, Veggie Kebat, and brown rice. All were order as medium spicy. Everything was excellent, and the level of spice worked well for the group. We ordered a bottle of the Grgich Hills Cabernet, and a 2005 Turley Zinfandel, which the waiter decanted. Both wines were great, and the Zin matched the spiciness of the food perfectly. Saweet!!!
Service was a bit slow as the place was packed on a Thursday night, but we had enough conversations going on that it was not an issue for us.
The hostess came by as were finishing and asked what we had, and offered a few other choices if we come back, and she took a group picture of us-so nice.
Great atmosphere, good vibe, so folks, park your self-importance at the door, relax, have fun and let the evening flow.
The food was so tasty and service was swift. Noise level (important for my husband with hearing difficulties) was manageable, at least at 5:30 p.m.
Both the food as well as the service were excellent! We had a great time
Terrifically interesting and tasty food, cordial, friendly and efficient service. All of the right ingredients for a memorable culinary experience.
Been there many times and have to say, was disappointed with the food. Usually the garlic eggplant is a must and it was okay and the pumpkin salmon stew was not good at all. Had a strong fishy smell for salmon. Service was great as always, however.
Our 2 person table was very cramped. And the vegetable kebat was part uncooked, we mentioned this and they kindly cooked it more but not completely. We were tired of reporting it and just are it. Not worth the $. Nothing special for vegetarians.
Two of us shared the vegetarian samosas, tea leaf salad, and garlic shrimp and eggplant entree. The shrimp dish would have benefited from a little more shrimp and a little less eggplant, but we enjoyed all the dishes and left feeling fully satiated. The server was very informative and made sure that we didn't object to any of the ingredients. But we had to ask for our third dish after we had finished the first two and were left waiting longer than we liked. I did see a lot of take-out orders being picked up, so I wonder if that had something to do with it. We also had to flag down a waiter for more water and the check. So although the wait staff was very nice, they could be more attentive. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would go back.
Love the tea leaf salad! Always consistently good. We found the "fiery" tofu to be fairly mild. If you order it, ask for some spice on the side.
As in our previous visits the food was good, the service personable and the price as expected. A really nice place to bring visitors.
Amazing food & ambience. Very good cocktails too. Loved it.
Yummy food but.... Chaotic service, from snippy hostess to soup coming out before the pre-dinner drinks. AND then to top it off, they marked that we didn’t honor our Open Table reservation! Not cool.
I would only recommend this place because of the tea tree salad. This place is very cramped, noisy, and the staff are unfriendly. You can't go here on a date or business meeting. Don't pick this place if you are looking for a good dining experience. Get the food to go, you'll have a much better time. They only have a couple really good dishes. Even the staff will tell you some of it is not good.
Great Food and Great service. The flavors are intense and incredible! I cannot recommend it more highly.
Food, custom cocktails, and service were all very good.
Our neighboring table had people that were talking too loudly and with the tables being so close the entire meal was too distracting as we couldn't hear each other.
Service was terrible - waited more than 30 minutes to get our check
Waiter made all the recommendations which worked perfectly for us.
Good service, blah (bland) food, good atmosphere.....
Will not be returning anytime soon.
Reserved table but they wouldn’t seat us until all four of us were even though it was just one parking and half the restaurant was empty so we around in the way of people going in and out of the entrance while our table sat vacant.
Food was extremely salty.
Passed by the evening before and saw people seated and eating having just been served their food at 9:45 at night while the waitstaff started stacking chairs onto the tables that weren’t occupied. Should have known better. Service in restaurants is increasingly being compromised as a get em in and out as fast as possible seems to be the new mantra.
Great except for the noisd
Always good food, great ambiance. tea leaf salad is the best! Parking and nearby road work makes getting to the place a challenge!
Food was great, service was terrible. If you can’t keep up in the dining room and at the bar, reduce your reservations. Also, it’s a small space, they are trying to fit in too many tables/covers.
Tea Leaf salad is still to die for. Mango swai was delicious, as usual. Fiery tofu vegetable kebat was tasty and had just the right amount of heat. I love the sunlight.
We had a very nice dinner ! Smooth and efficient service, great food !
I do not usually write review if the restaurant experience is as expected. We had a good experience with this restaurant before this visit but we are never coming back again.
We were 20 minutes early but the hostess was able to seat us after 5 minutes so long as we promise that we will finished in time for the next reservation. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant but it was 20 minutes before the waiter took our order. He said he will bring dishes to the table as they were made. We waited for at least 20 minutes and we did not even have our appetizer. At one point our waiter told us our food was coming soon. In the mean time food was served to 3 tables with patrons who were seated after us. One of them was the table next to ours. They finished their dinner and we still have no food. Our waiter kept walking through the other side of the restaurant as if he did not want to encounter us.
Eventually, my husband went to talk to the host and he just said that some dishes took more time than others. Instead of being polite and help us check on our order, he appeared to be blaming us. We did not order anything special. He said our lemongrass pork was what the problem but it was not the last dish to get served. We were almost at the point of walking out before our dishes were served. Later on, other staff came and asked if we were finished, wanted any dessert (which I planned to but decided against it due to the unpleasant experience). We then got the check from a different waiter. Once again we waited while many staff members walked by our table but no one picked up our credit card to process. In the end, we just put cash on the table and left. My husband still left a $10 tips as he said it was Christmas Eve. I gave $2 directly to the bus person who kept refilling our water glasses.
I had dined there previously so wanted my husband to enjoy it too. It was my 86th Birthday so a very special occasion! The welcome and seating were friendly and our server was outstanding through out. He paced the meal well, and the low lights and intimate atmosphere we had selected worked perfectly - along with outstanding food!
The capper came when we asked for the check and were told that our meal had been comped! We had not really mentioned our destination to anyone and could not ascertain who was giving us such a gift. After coming home, I waited until near closing time and called - speaking to the nice young woman who had seated us.
She checked and found that two women seated near us had enjoyed watching our enjoyment and thought we were CUTE! Hilarious and so noice!
We plan on describing all this to the local Palo Alto paper thanking them, and mentioning that we will contribute our same amount to Second Harvest!
What a lovely Birthday!
The food was delicious: tea salad, samosas, spicy shrimp, sesame beef, garlic noodles and coconut rice. The chicken curry was very disappointing. It was made with dark meat and had a very thin sauce.
Our server, Amy, was excellent.
I've always enjoyed the food here, especially the tea salad. I also like that Rangoon Ruby can adjust the spices to your taste. So, though my earlier experiences have been good, this one lacked due to being ignored for 100+ minutes. I finally had to get up and go to the receptionist to get my bill and pay the bill. I still like the restaurant, and I'll be back, because anyone (Eric) can have a bad day.
We celebrated our anniversary here. It was great atmosphere, service, food and cocktails. Would recommend.
I was a frequent patron of Rangoon 2 years ago and went back recently only to be served Pad Thai soup. There was far too much sauce and it was unpalatable. I will not be going back.
Food and service were just okay. I liked the restaurant but I have been to other Burmese restaurants where the food was better. The waiter was nice but because they were so busy the wait for our beers from the bar took an inordinately long time. Would return but probably will go elsewhere first.
Cocktails are half full and most of the drink is ice. Save your money. Tea leaf salad is awesome. Eggplant and lamb are excellent. Hostess gave our request for specific table away despite confirmation on phone one hour before! Go figure. Bar disappointing but food is pretty good
It wasn't busy, so the noise level was fine. When it's busy, it can be very loud!
I love so many items--the garlic noodles are soooo good!
Tea was hot water and tea bag, more like Hilton breakfast tea than any authentic Burmese tea
Tea leave salad was best!
Noodles seems to have too much sweetness to it than much flavor to it.
It seems to have gone downhill. The salad they are well known for (tea leaf) has no spark. It's just not as good as it once was.
