The food was excellent, wait staff very friendly and informative but it took a long time to get food out so probably wasn't the best choice for a quick lunch escape from work. If you have plenty of time though totally worth it!
Robert is the best waiter. Very friendly and attentive. The food is beyond excellent.
Food was excellent as always. We always have excellent service but this time we weren’t so lucky. It happens and I’ll go back but a server has a huge impact on an experience and in this case it didn’t go so well.
Appetizer South Texas Beef Tar Tare was excellent. I had the bacon crusted pork rib eye medium and every bite was juicy with lots of flavor. My Peers had the tenderloin filet and the sirloin. Both plates looked and judging by the empty plates latter were magnificent. Great steak house, great service, would definitely recommend and go back again.
We ate here once before and enjoyed our meal, so made another reservation. Unfortunately we didn't notice the drop in reviews until it was too late to reserve elsewhere. We were hoping that it wouldn't be as disappointing as the recent reviews showed. We arrived on time and were shown to a table for 2 in a corner. It made us feel like we were in time out. Drinks were fine, appetizer good, then it started to go downhill at the salads. My husband's salad was not what he had ordered, so it went back. Then we waited for our steaks. We watched the couple next to us get their entrees(and finish eating them), even though they were seated after us. Someone came out and said there was an issue with our steaks but they'd be out in about 6 min. Well, about 2-3 min later they appeared and were rare to the point that they were seared on the outside and raw inside (we ordered them medium-rare plus). They both went back. We had ordered a side item to share and it's a good thing it wasn't delivered when our steaks were because they would've been cold by the time our steaks came back. This time they were cooked appropriately. We again had to ask about our side item. As I took the first bite of my steak, it tasted like it has been soaked in the Dead Sea - so much salt and all over! If it weren't for the fact that I was hungry and we had some place else to be, I would've sent it back again. Initially they comped our side item, but my husband made a remark and they also took off one of our steaks from the bill. That was a decent gesture, but unfortunately too late. I can tolerate an off night and usually give the benefit of the doubt, but for those prices, you should have this figured out. We have another go-to steakhouse that is not downtown and as many times as we have gone, they have not disappointed. We will not return, Range.
Pre Theatre meal with friends
Steak was delicious.
Not enough selections... salad.. soups.. steak. I ordered the pricey $26 chuchara board of meat n cheeses... meat was practically jerky and absolutely no flavor cheeses were just as dry. But this is my second try and I miss the LUKE menu
Good food but a little pricey. The muffins/bread that were served were extremely dry and I do not recommend. Food was good, although nothing outstanding. Disappointed that they did nothing to recognize a birthday we we’re celebrating at our table.
Right on time and very good service
It was a horrible experience. The food was no good at all. Had to send the steak back several times. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. They need an overhaul.
The best dinner we had while visiting San Antonio!
Was in from out of town and it was unexpectedly a great restaurant in our hotel. Nice with our kids and an amazing steak at dinner. Wait staff was top notch. Will go again if in town for sure.
Nice ambiance. Good waiter. The menu offered table side Caesar Salad, but was told that was not happening since it was too busy on Christmas night - first let down - but we got over it with Wedge salad. I ordered Ribeye medium rare and my wife ordered pork chop well done. Took quite a while to arrive, but no issue on the initial timing as it was Christmas night and we were enjoying the night out. Both entrees arrived extremely rare - second let down. We sent both back to finish cooking to our requests. It took over 30 minutes for new replacements to arrive - third let down. Upon arrival, the Porkchop was cooked to proper temp, but my wife could not eat much as it was just overloaded with pepper - fourth let down. Ribeye was now medium-well to well-done and quite dry - fifth let down. Now the side dishes were cold, and replacement was not offered, however they were both comped due to the delay - kudos to the waiter for that. Then we see a couple at the bar getting table-side Caesar salad. WTF I told the waiter. He said the chef authorized it - SIXTH let down. For the $150 plus tip and all the let downs, it was simply not worth it. There are way too many other steak houses to ever return here.
Our meals were fantastic! The NY Strip was tasty and beautifully cooked. It did look a little spare on the plate with absolutely no garnishment at all. My husband and I got the beef tenderloin bolognese sauce pasta. So delicious. Perfectly seasoned and a nice sized portion - not too much and not too little.
The blueberry muffins were nice. But bread with the meal (even for a cost) would be a nice addition.
The chopped salad was flavorful- but needed some color and a bit more crunch than a couple cashews.
Our server was nice - no recommendations and not friendly or unfriendly.
There was no dessert menu in the menu - so it was easier to just say no because we had no idea at all what was on it.
Overall - food was delicious and we would return if back in San Antonio.
I was disappointed. We ordered a total of 2 glasses of wine, 2 salads and one dozen oysters and our total bill was $101.A 20% gratuity was included, but it was still a sticker shock. All of the salad dressings were vinaigrettes, even the one served with the wedge. The only non-vinaigrette was served with my salad, which was basically lettuce, tomatoes, chopped avocado, and almonds. I sent the first dressing back because I thought it was straight mayonnaise. When the waiter brought the replacement, I could taste some lemon in the mayonnaise - I opted for the vinegarette they served with the wedge instead.
Way overpriced, especially the oysters
First date. Great place we both had a great time, and the food was fantastic.
In my opinion this restaurant is not the best that downtown San Antonio has to offer. We were a party of nine celebrating Christmas Eve as a family. None of us were impressed with our meals. I found the ribeye to be dry. My daughter ordered medium rare and I ordered medium. The salad for two was actually pretty good. It was prepared right in front of us. The additional sides were not all that. The main issue I had with this location was the service. Throughout the experience it was medium to average, which is OK with me. What really disappointed me was the way the evening ended. The server approached us and said “we have a lot of people waiting in line since it’s Christmas Eve. Can you please take your conversation outside.” Brauck, our server, was a bit rude with his tone and could have started his request in a better way. The funny thing was that the restaurant was not that busy and had plenty of open tables. Considering the amount of money we spent, I expect a higher level of service and respect. This will be the last time I ever got to this restaurant. In my opinion, walk a little further down the road and go to Bohanan’s. It is a much better restaurant at the same price point.
We were extremely disappointed with our experience at the Range. Having gone for lunch during restaurant week we thought it would be a nice place for dinner and with Jason Daddy’s reputation we were really looking forward to it. We planned a nice dinner with family and friends (9 total) before going on the Riverwalk to view the Christmas lights. We were seated quickly and our server came by shortly after to ask about drink orders but was mostly absent the rest of the night. The food was very slow in coming. While our mushroom bisque was delicious it was very cold. The fried olives ‘stuffed’ with blue cheese were also cold and we had a hard time finding the cheese. While Lobster is on the menu apparently it’s ‘seasonal’ according to our server. For the most part the food was unimpressive for the price paid. While three of our guests had steaks, no steak knives were provided making it awkward to enjoy while having to use the butter knives on the table. And while it may not have been the restaurant’s responsibility as the restrooms are likely managed by the adjoining hotel, the women’s bathroom seemed to have had a toilet overflow and was a mess putting the cap on a very disappointing night.
This is the fifth time we have dined at Range. Service is getting worse instead of better. Waited about 10 minutes before server greeted us. Never did tell us what the specials were. Never asked if we wanted a second glass of wine. Had to ask for the blueberry muffins-you would of thought we had asked for a free meal! Server was bored? dis-interested? in a bad mood? --maybe all three! Won't be going back.
We chose Range to have dinner before attending theatre at the nearby Majestic Theatre. They offer a Prix Fixe for theater goers. Arriving just before 7pm, we informed the hostess and our server we had an eight o’clock curtain . It took 42 minutes to get our entree. Two bites and we had to leave to not miss the opening curtain. We did not have time for the rest of the meal.. Not a good experience.
This is the first time that we had been to this restaurant. The food could have been amazing, however our meat came out very rare. I know what meat is supposed to be when it's medium rare and this came out so rare it was almost inedible. The sides were also barely lukewarm when they came out. Once we were able to get to the hotel and put everything in the microwave for a couple of seconds it was just fine.
Not the best experience I have had there at all. Our food came out slow, orders in complete, etc
Waiter was nice, but harried!
We had to wait for our waiter for 20 mins. Food arrived. Had to wait another 10 mins for napkins and silverware. Food was mediocre. Had to again wait for the check.
A complete disaster, extremely poor service, messed up order, waited 90 minutes after ordering for food to arrive and some dishes were ice cold, and many others around us had similar disappointing experience and manager was nowhere to be found....never again! Given the choice of this place or McDonalds, you’re better off with the Big Mac and fries, it’ll be a better meal and experience!
Overall letdown - 20 min after reservation we were sat, hostess would bring patrons without reservation to their table before us, accidentally gave our table to another group, outside ambiance lack luster and loud. The food service was extremely slow, we hardly saw our waiter, we had to flag him down each time we wanted to order drinks, apps and entree. Parking is horrendous, hotel does not offer parking for restaurant. Adjacent lots were full and valet was unable to help us find a parking lot nearby. Restaurant was unkept - dirty napkins at the front doors on the floor. The only positive point to make was the view of Christmas lights from the river we pretty.
Steaks were great but a little over the pricier side. The restaurant was so cold the butter on top of the steak wasn't melting, and the meat got cold pretty quickly. Flavor and charring on medium sirloin were excellent, though. Would come here again but would ask to be seated in a less cold side of the restaurant.
The Tableside Caesar Salad was good. The cocktails and the rest of the meal were extremely lackluster. The restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived but the hostess was very slow to seat us. The server took almost 10 minutes to greet us. I didn’t enjoy my experience. I was very disappointed because Tre Trattoria is one of my favorite restaurants and I was excited to try another place by the same Chef. I will not go back.
I have never left a bad review for any restaurant, or business for that matter. However, I'm compelled to do so for Range because the entire experience was terrible - from service to food. And certainly not worth any of the money we spent. The service was so bad it made every person in our group feel uncomfortable. Every time we would ask for something or place an order, Rudy's response would be "OK, but I'll have to add that to your tab". This includes the extra couple of pieces of toasted bread we requested for the Burrata, which only came with 4 (and there were 5 people in our group). Rudy said the restaurant would need to charge us for the extra pieces of bread, which were burnt upon delivery. The steaks were poorly cooked, even after sending mine back. The creamed spinach had a very distinct grainy texture; I asked the Manager if he could share what ingredients were in it, none of them would cause the grainy French fries; Burrata; steaks; several other appetizers) was good. I'm sorry to say that - but just absolutely nothing was tasty or properly prepared. The customer service of the waiter (rude) and Manager (uncaring) were disappointing. We decided to skip dessert, paid our tabs, and left. We will never go back, and will let friends & family know to go somewhere else for a good dining experience downtown.
I was disappointed that we got sat at a table that made us feel like we were sitting in the corner. In addition, another couple was seated so close to us that I felt like neither them nor us could carry a conversation without feeling like we were talking over the other.
I ordered the red snapper and that was very delicious. My husband ordered the ribeye, and for the price, it was just “ok.”
The CO2 was not functioning on the kegs, so my husband was unable to order the beer he initially requested.
Overall, it was a nice experience, but I was hopeful for more.
Unfortunatley can not pinger r
Food was overpriced for what we received, service was slow, food brought to the table - even slower. No apologies were made for the long wait for our orders.
This is a steakhouse so you would expect a great steak. Steak was overpriced and mediocre. Was supposed to be served with one of a choice of toppings/butters. When the steak was brought to the table, we were told they were out of the selected topping so we made another selection. That was brought to the table about 10 minutes later, cold - to put on a now semi warm steak. Fish ordered was overpriced and mediocre. Pastas ordered were small portions. Noise level was awful. It was hard to conduct any conversation over the small band playing upstairs. Also annoying, the warmup before they actually played. Loud and a disturbance. Maybe it was just where we were seated, just below the stairwell. I would expect the restaurant to make adjustments for that if this is the outcome.
visited Range for a special event. Unfortunately there was some miss communication on event details. I understood to be a buffet. I was disappointed at the brevity of the serving line and limited choices. Mushrooms, asparagus and salmon very good. beef at carving station still moving it was so rare. Only two choice for dessert. No where near the contents or value I expected.
I came in town from Memphis to take my daughter who was studying for exams out to dinner on Thanksgiving night.
I had made a reservation somewhere else but when I found out it was 30 minutes away we decided to try for something closer
We had eaten Thanksgiving 2 years ago at The Range and it was excellent then
They did not have any openings but the Manager and Hostess were so nice to work us in
We have nothing but good things to say. All of the food and service were outstanding
I would definitely return and eat there when I go visit my daughter at San Antonio
Thanksgiving service was disorganized and the wait longer than expected. Entrees were very good though sides could be better.
The service was great and atmosphere was nice but the food was lacking. The menu had great appeal but once the food arrived it was disappointing. The raw oysters were terrible and should not have been allowed on the menu. The mushroom bisque was lumpy and had the texture of a bad cream gravy. The tenderloin bolognese was very good though. I don't think I would return unless there were changes in the kitchen.
Disappointed. Hot salad plates....room temperature dinner plates....initially cramped at table ...resolved by adding additional table...distracted waiter...food was good, not outstanding...overall, disappointing
I had to send back 3 different steaks. I ordered a ribeye and was a brought a strip. They then brought me a ribeye that was over half fat and an awful cut. I then ordered a filet Med rare plus and it came out completely rare and cold in the center. Also our sides were brought out 20 minutes after our steaks and 1 of the 3 was completely cold. We were told they dropped all 3 on the floor so they had to be remade. This was a complete disappointment for our group for a restaurant that is rated one of the best steak places in the city. I will not be coming back.
Great 2 course lunch pre fixe menu.
