The restaurant was mostly empty on a Saturday night, in a busy part of town, which gave me a hinky feeling. The service was OK, but again, there weren't many customers and it seemed like we were on our own for a bit. The food was good, but at the price point I was just expecting more. In fairness, they were very accommodating of my party which contained two young children. It's just that overall I don't feel like it was worth what we paid.
830 reservation 835 arrival. Dinner served 947. cold sides. asked for med+ fillet. steak raw & cool. Wife wanted well done, was still pink inside. Had to ask for muffins/bread. Waiter seemed non attentive.. terrible experience overall..
Range needs to be put out to pasture for the food they served. Zero effort deviled eggs that were simply boiled eggs, cut in half with a dollop of mayo on top, paprika and chives. Deep fried Blue cheese stuffed olives without the blue cheese, even the second time. I ordered a 10oz filet, medium rare. It was cooked beautifully but had ZERO flavor so I sent it back. Peters pasta dish was decent but I won't go back. Not to mention the little gnats flying around bothering us and both tables on either side of us. The absolute only redeeming thing about Range was the excellent service of our waiter who tried to turn our evening around but unfortunately the chefs preparing the food dropped the ball.
Beautiful setting on the San Antonio River Walk. Salmon was cooked perfectly with a crispy exterior that's next to impossible for me to recreate as a home cook, which is exactly what I'm seeking in a restaurant experience. Great service as well.
I went to Range for my birthday dinner and had the best time. The food was fantastic, the bartenders were attentive and my overall experience was wonderful. I will definitely recommend and return, they made my night special and my steak was cooked perfectly!
I found quite expensive.
Depending on the wait staff will determine how accommodating they are. We have eaten here several times and prior to our last experience it was fine. In the past we have been able to make adjustments to our sides, but not this time! The waiter was curt and not willing to adjust. We were disappointed and will probably not return.
We have eaten dinner and lunch at Range. Dinner was great. good food, great service but lunch has been the exact opposite. Ordered a bloody Mary. It came with full pepper corns which stuck in the straw and made the drink terrible. Apparently they said their blender was broken so they just dumped the corns in. The tenderloin bolognese was so salty it could not be eaten.
Filet was overcooked and very disappointed in the quality of the filet.
Burratta was only good thing we had. We were told table side ceased salad was not available but 20 minutes later the table next to us ordered and received it. We did order the lobster Thermador and it was pitiful. Overcooked, so small - two bites per tail and no sauce at all. Very disappointing for a higher end restaurant. We will not be returning.
Best pork chop I've ever had and solid Old Fashioned!
Over all a good experience. Food & Service were very good.
Noise level very loud. We needed to talk loudly in order to carry on a conversation>
OVERALL VERY GOOD
The wait service was not very attentive to our drinks, and the food for the price was not that good. The steaks were not cooked properly. The restaurant was in a hotel, and it very much like a hotel restaurant.
We have eaten at Range a bunch of times, and generally really love it. However, the last two times we have eaten there, the service has been REALLY SLOW even though we told them that we were trying to make it to a show. Also, the food has not been up to it's usual excellence. We are not ready to give up on them yet but we are hoping they up their game a bit to get back to their former excellence.
I was recommended this restaurant by a coworker and I choose this out of the 5 other options I had thinking it would be an experience. I was there on a date trying to impress. First time there I show up and head to the bar for a cocktail before being seated. Bartenders showed little effort to express their presence. Cocktail was good so I was not bothered. As we sat down we told our server it was our first time. He went into detail about the restaurant and was excited we had come to dine with you all. He was awesome had great recommendations and was spot on with timing. The food was good and the experience was good. The manager even came by and said hi. I guess I was looking for the WOW factor with your restaurant but never really received it. All love just feedback.
The food was average. My wife’s steak was undercooked and salty. The service was excellent. They also seemed to have gnat problem. I don’t think we’ll return.
The lobster week special was not good. We came back to Range after restaurant week and were disappointed in the service, quality of food and overall experience. We waited a very long time for beverage service. The lobster was not fresh and was overcooked.
* meh *
lobster prices fix menu with wine pairings and petit filet:
bisque, a bust.
great brussel sprouts and asparagus.
lobster was fine.
only flavored coffee available (yuk, and sweet)
service errors & miscommunications between staff frequent.
overall, there’s too many good restaurants in sa to come back here to range.
Expected better, especially for the price.
Great food and drinks!
This restaurant is not worth your time
We wanted to take our whole family out for a nice dinner while celebrating one of our sons’ accomplishments in San Antonio. Yelp had good things to say about Range, so I booked a table and we went. Granted, Valentines weekend is a busy one for dining out. Everyone from the hostesses, kitchen staff, and our waitress were kind, welcoming, and apologetic about our food. It was extremely slow in coming out (three different staff members came to apologize). When it did come, the mediums steaks (a strip & a tenderloin) were both rare. They took both back to cook them longer, and came back better. They comped our desserts and an Irish coffee. With all of the other options in San Antonio, I don’t know if we would try them again. Especially because we’re only in town once or twice a year. But as far as kindness and responsiveness, Range did great.
Loved the restaurant and food, waiter was great...they were under staffed so took a long time to get a drink and order our meal. Will go back and hopefully won't take 3 hours..
AVOID THIS PLACE. This was a horrible experience. Problem #1 - they only had a valentines menu and not their regular menu. #2 it took an hour to get our main course, we didn’t receive it until 11:00 PM. #3 waited all that time just for the fish to not be fully cooked. #4 it was $125 per person for a Valentine’s Day menu when we didn’t even want all the options on there, this isn’t some 5 star restaurant. #5 our waitress had to nerve to tell us the kitchen is crashing & burning literally.
Overall, service was subpar, food isn’t worth the price at all, table in front of us was disgruntled too. Just avoid this place.
Food was pretty good, but obviously premade for Vday meal. Cheese plate was severely lacking but steak was quite good.
Service was very bad
The place had terrible service, it was overpriced, and the food was NOTHING to brag about. My experience was so bad that if another restaurant, had a reservation open, I would have left.
Had reservations for 9:15 didn't get seated until 10:00. Sat down and didn't get the entre until after 11:00. Ordered steak well done, still got it pink. Waiter dissapeared for 20 minutes at a time with only 3 tables occupied upstairs. I paid $320.00 for a poor experience.
Waiter service was poorly and that is the main reason for the poor experience. I had to request for our steak knifes after we order steaks. I had to request crushed pepper for the last portion of my salad. My salad took longer than normal for just lettuce and croutons. We had to keep reminding the waiter about our drinks and meals orders. I noticed we were not the only table having issues.
I'm not sure I'd go back. We went for Valentine's with friends. The kitchen must have had some sort of meltdown. The first course did not come out all at once. After 2 hours, we had only been served our first course. Then, both of our friends' steaks were not cooked to order when the food came. We left after 4 hours with our desserts to go. Our poor server was clearly overwhelmed by it all.
Absolute worst service I’ve ever seen at any restaurant! We got there at 8 pm on Valentine’s Day.
First off, there was no communication that this garbage restaurant would charge $125 PER PERSON, due to it being a “holiday menu.” I would have never even considered going there if I knew that.
Second, we ordered drinks and our food ASAP, and I even told the waiter to keep checking in because we wanted to be serviced. He was horrible. They brought out THE WORST, most soggy Caesar salad I’ve ever had. My girlfriend and I each had two bites, and pushed them off to the side.
We waited 1.5 hours, and our entree had still not come out. The restaurant was practically empty. Three other couples that came in after us got their food. I kept asking our waiter where our food was, and he just kept saying, “it’s coming.” We cancelled everything.
I have never had a worse dining experience in my entire life.
I'll summarize in 4 words Desserts MEH. $320 later? NEVER AGAIN.
Way too expensive. Wait staff was nice but service took too long.
Staff was great. Waiter seemed too busy for us. Entree was cooked wrong and plate cold. Didnt see waiter for a while so gave up. Rest on the coarses we amazing. Wine pairing was perfect. For the money spent , service was lacking. Especially on valentine's . Will try again before I give up on the place.
The food and service was terrible. Ordered the gulf oysters. Had to send them back. Ordered the table side Caesar and the waitress Carla shows up with the salads and said the cart was broken. The dressing tasted like it came out of a bottle. Only ate a couple bites. She picked up our plates and didn’t even acknowledge they were barely touched. The steaks were awful. The ribeye was so tough that my husband had a hard time chewing the couple of bites he ate. My fillet was burnt and they claimed it was the cast iron prep. It was definitely burnt. I complained to the waitress and she offered to get us a free dessert. That was the last thing we wanted was more food from this place.
As for service, it was non existent. Had to ask the waitress to pour the wine. She didn’t follow up and took forever. She only had one station. The table next to us was struggling too.
Service was great. Great cocktails. Food cooked perfectly.
Menu doesn’t have enough options and the choices that the menu does have is extra regular. The drinks are subpar. The only good thing is the view.
The food was very tasty and cooked to order. Our server was nice, but very inexperienced and was not knowledgeable about the menu, bar, or pricing. It wasn't until we placed our orders that he notified us of off menu items, and when we ordered what he suggested it led to allot of confusion. The restaurant was not busy, yet we were seated directly next to an exit door and another couple. The 2 tables around us were have allot of issues, not receiving appetizers, undercooked meat, wrong items being delivered to their table, not receiving extra requested plates so they could share food, etc. It started off our experience skeptical and negative. We spent just about $200 pre tip last night, and both agreed that the food was very good, but had the service been better, it would have been worth it.
Service was good until it got busy. The food was just ok. The steak was charred too much on the outside, so it formed a burnt crust. I ordered it medium and it was medium rare, but that was ok. I just couldn't get past the crust. The pasta was dry and needed more sauce. Burrata was good. Hushpuppies had good flavor, but were a bit doughy. Drinks were well made. Oysters were fresh. Not worth a trip back, unless I was going to the bar for drinks and appetizers.
The food and portions were excellent! The ambiance and noise level were pleasant. I’ve dined here during evening hours a few times and the waitstaff is much more attentive then when dining for lunch.
