Rails...a Cafe at the Depot
Pan sauteed shrimp tossed with linguine and creamy Alfredo sauce
Tender, slow cooked beef in a Marsala, Portobello mushroom and scallion sauce served with orzo pasta
Grilled shrimp served on a bed of rice with a tangy bell pepper and tomato creole sauce
As always the menu was great and the food was wonderful. I had the grilled salmon which was perfect. My husband and his friend had beef marsala which they said was fabulous. The friends wife had ossobuco and loved it. Dark chocolate dessert was to die for and the server said no calories. (LOL) The wine suggested went well with everything.
Very nice outdoor dining area and very attentive service
Service was outstanding. Not an Italian Chef cooking Italian food.
My friend and I enjoyed sitting on the patio enjoying the weather and the ambience. The food was wonderful and service perfect. We ended up visiting longer than we had planned. Just perfect.
Loved the wild mushroom quesadillas. There were plenty of extras to add to them if you wanted more. I added the grilled chicken.
We visited on a quiet weekday evening, but the staff was very attentive and the food and ambience were excellent as well. Great architectural concept, with a historical tone. Would definitely come back again.
Dinner at Rails was most enjoyable and the service by Jasmine was excellent.
The food at the Rails was very good. They have a very broad menu and everything that I had from appetizers...main course...to dessert was excellent and my wife had a similar feeling. The one thing that would make the experience better is an offering of local Microbrew beer and more local Texas wines.
We had a group of ten to our table with seating outdoors and it was a wonderful experience. Lovely area, great service, wonderful food with a terrific selection of beer and wine. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meal and we all enjoyed the ambiance.
Sweet little place. Indoor seating was very limited, but the service and food were excellent. We dressed up for a celebration dinner and it did not disappoint. Buffalo burger and chicken Alfredo were delicious. Thanks!
Overcooked burger, burnt salmon. No sides. Very underwhelming. First & last visit.
We have eaten at Rails three times in the past month and the food and service have been great both out on the patio and inside. It's nice to have a good place right here in town to enjoy.
We had the Ossobuco and the Beef Marsala .....both outstanding.
Very professional wait staff.
Great customer service, the food is always delicious!
First time customer. Enjoyed the visit. Service from Jasmine was excellent.
It was our first visit and we really enjoyed the restaurant. The menu had a lot of good choices and the food was tasty and fresh. We also enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant as it is set in an old train depot. I would highly recommend.
Solid menu and restaurant, service was very good, we ate outside which was much more comfotable for us
A wonderful experience! We dined outside and it was perfect!
Went for lunch with friends and as usual the food and service were very good.
My wife and I ordered appetizer, cup of soup, and bottle of wine to start while we decided on an entree. After a few minutes, waitress came back and took our entree order. No biggie. We’re just chilling, enjoying each other’s company. About 3 minutes later, the owner (I presume) came out with our dinner entrees. My wife and I looked at each other perplexed because we hadn’t even received our appetizer or soup. So, we explained that to him. He seemed surprised and took our entrees back to the kitchen and a short time later our app came out (skip the salmon bruschetta), which was just ok (tomato bisque soup was tasty, tho). But, the whole time my wife and I are thinking, “...they’re going to just let our dinner sit under a lamp until we’re ready for it.” Sure enough! My osso bucco was lukewarm, at best. And my wife’s quail pasta was even colder. Food was rubbery and dry, likely due to sitting for nearly 25-30 minutes before being served. It was very disappointing because it was our date night and we had skipped lunch and were really hungry by 7-7:30pm and looking forward to this restaurant. They did offer us a free dessert, which was ok. But, overall food was a disappointment. We ended up just getting a couple to-go boxes, thinking maybe it’ll taste better after we nuke it in the microwave for lunch the next days. I don’t think it had anything to do with our server. She did a good job of checking on us, even prior to the mixup. So, we still left her a generous tip. Just overall disappointing and underwhelming. Can’t win them all, I guess.
We were close by celebrating our anniversary and found this place.
So glad we decided to stop there for lunch. The staff was amazingly friendly and efficient and the food was perfect.
Days later my husband and I are both still talking about how we can’t wait to visit again just so we can eat there once again.
The menu offers many delicious and healthy choices. Service is very friendly, accommodating and prompt. In Kerrville for a convention, my friends and I chose Rails on three occasions. Once we sat at the covered tables on the patio for lunch, and it was very enjoyable, even on a pretty warm day, since there are fans blowing mist about.
Great salads which is what I usually order. Today, I had a bowl of soup which was returned because it was cold.
This was the highest rated restaurant in the area so maybe our expectations were too high. The restaurant itself and the service was fine. But the food was disappointing. It reminded me of a hotel restaurant or a conference. Nothing was special. The veggies and potatoes were overdone. My steak medallions were cooked to temperature but drenched in some sort of gravy. My said his pasta Florentine tasted like the cheese was Velveeta.
Food was pretty good although I didn’t care for the apple salsa that came with the mahi mahi wrap.
Waitress brought me fish tacos instead of wrap. Did make it right. Almost forgot to bring the rice that went with mine. then tried to charge for fish tacos.
Delightful outdoor historic setting at old train depot. All the food was delicious, but the desserts are to die for!
The place looked great with excellent reviews but we found the service to be slow and the man who delivered extra plates for our group was very rude which turned out to be the owner. If the staff and owner had been different it would have been a great experience.
Great!! Beautiful night for their nice patio!!
In kerrville. This is one of the top restaurants for “fine dining,” that being a relative phrase. The menu is plenteous and varied. The food is prepared artfully and is sufficiently tasty. Service is very pleasant. It is a good restaurant. There’s nothing not to like about it. There’s nothing special about it either. I don’t recall my meal or my guest’s being badly prepared or served. On the other hand I dint have a feeling of, “ I can’t wait to go their again.” If people want to go, I’d go. It’s a pretty good restaurant if you don’t want fried food in kerrville.
Awesome outdoor dining! Fabulous service! Very nutritious, delicious food! My only complaint was how many large groups were there (outside) during a pandemic. I wish people had better sense. But that is not Rails’ fault. This is one of the only places I will go out to eat because of the nice outdoor section.
Rails is always excellent food and service. We also really like the fact that they are concerned about our safety during this pandemic. Menus are paper, and the servers always have masks on. This is a great place to eat and they also have a fabulous patio for outside dining.
Excellent food, great atmosphere. Recommend sitting outside.
Very charming place to dine. The service is top notch!
Another great meal at Rails today on our drive back from Colorado. I had the curried chicken salad and my wife had the southwest panini. It was delicious and the fresh made sourdough bread went down easy as well. No meal is complete at Rails unless you get one of their awesome scratch made cakes (well over a dozen to choose from each day) and the lemon berry cake did not disappoint!!!
Loved this spot! Great food and great wine!! Got the wild mushroom quesadillas
Food is always first rate at rails! We were impressed, initially, with the attention paid to the CDC recommendations for sanitizing and social distancing. Patio tables were clearly 6+ feet apart and staff wore masks and gloves for the entire time we were there. Patrons are required to wear masks while walking to table and could remove them only while seated. By the time we left the were not any open seats.
Unfortunately, there are several entrances to the patio and we saw a fair number of diners enter and walk among the tables without masks. Entrances need to be be better managed.
Great outdoor patio with pans and misters with socially distanced tables. Very relaxing.
Went for my Birthday dinner. Appetizor was enough for 4 to share. Salmon and shrimp was perfectly cooked. Dessert was a very nice selection and wonderful. Service was very attentive but we did not feel rushed.
Great food and great atmosphere! Highly recommend; we can’t wait to come back!
