Rail & River Bistro
Was our 28th Anniversary, so happy they were open while maintaining social distancing. It’s so important to support our local businesses during this difficult time. Our meal was fabulous as per usual. We throughly enjoyed. Thanks so much for making our day so special. No pics as we went cell free. Rail & Bistro now has take out. 🌸🌸
I was blown away by how good this restaurant is. The service was wonderful and the food even better. We shared a starter of mushroom stuffed escargot which was superb. That was followed by an amazing osso buco ordered by my wife and I had one of their specials which was gypsy schnitzel. Delicious!! We finished our evening by ordering the Pavlova with a Passion Fruit filling that was a little piece of heaven. Oh my, does this kitchen ever know how to cook. The service was excellent. I had ordered a 9 oz glass of red wine which comes in a little carafe. I had a clumsy moment knocking over and shattering the glass carafe (which at the time only had about 3 oz of wine left in it). Our waitress came over immediately and removed my plate of food (to make sure that no glass had landed in it) and cleaned up the mess. She then returned a few minutes later with a fresh plate of food and another carafe of wine with at least 4 oz of wine in it. This was all done without a word being spoken on my part (except for my comments on my stupidity!!!). This is a wonderful restaurant and we'll be returning there very soon.
Great restaurant! Excellent wine menu, delicious food, simple and friendly environment.
Done out was fantastic!
Friendly staff. Great food and good music. Will go again!
Our go to. Always great. Staff can’t do enough to make the evening special.
Our first visit was enjoyable. The online table reservation system worked very well. When we arrived we were seated next to a window. There were several other tables of people in the restaurant. The noise level was very good - we were able to hear the music in the background while having a good conversation at our table. We were pleased to learn of the Early-bird feature on prime rib dinner. The servers were pleasant and helpful. We were warmly thanked as we left after a tasty, comfortable, relaxed experience. Thank you.
A simple unpretentious environment. Tables are not close together which allows for conversation without raising your voice.
The highlight is the food quality ! At our table for 8 a variety of dishes were ordered and the reaction to all of them was totally positive. My wife and I enjoyed the Chateaubriand for Two. It was cooked to perfection and simply wonderful !
I would highly recommend Rail & River to anyone looking for a fine meal in casual surroundings.
Great food. Cute location. Service was just ok. Waitress forgot an appetizer (didn’t charge us). Lacking in non-alcoholic drink selections.
Fantastic service and food.
Great food, service and overall atmosphere, with nice vintage music. Only issue was noise coming from pub next door, but that wouldn't stop us from going back. All in all a lovely Valentine dinner.
Very friendly staff, food was excellent! Very clean! Enjoyed our birthday party very much !
Watching the food come out the kitchen, in clear view, tempted a must visit again. Top quality food, and good value for portion size.
I would rate an overall 5 stars were it not for the wait; even with reservations, a half hour wait in somewhat sparsely occupied.
Good food, extremely slow service.
The food And service was amazing. Love the lighting and layout of the room but ambiance was working through some kinks that night. Kitchen missed two of the main parts of the charcuterie board but later made up for it. There was no music for the first half and then the music was very loud for the second half. We will definitely be back.
all four of us had the special - halibut & lobster.
we waited a fair while for it, no problem, but when it arrived it was overdone.
only thing you CANNOT do with seafood is overcook it.
considering we took friends who were back in the country after 3 years in Dubai, I was disappointed.
We've probably been to the restaurant 20 times since it opened. I know better is possible.
Was not busy, but service not nearly up to par. Were left alone for at least 10 minutes looking at dirty dishes and having not ordered main course. Seafood chowder was a 3/10, almost no seafood and not creamy at all, tasted like corn. Overall a poor first experience, probably wouldn’t go back.
Amazing live music
Holiday family gathering
We tried this restaurant when it opened a few years ago , excellent service and great food. Have been back a few times since with average food, this meal will be our last at this restaurant.
Rail and River is the place to go to in Fort Langley if you want to celebrate something special.
Lovely setting, the food was beyond delicious! The service was warm and friendly.
First time at the Rail & Bistro and it definitely won't be the last! Service, food, live entertainment were all outstanding.
Nice ambiance. Located beside the pub, but much quieter venue. Nice selection of entrees.
The food was amazing and the atmosphere in the restaurant great. We had a very nice evening. The only negative thing I would say is that our food arrived 45 minutes after we ordered and it was a bit cold. Otherwise this is a great restaurant and I will go there again.
Sticky toffee pudding the best way to finish a nice meal.
Last night we tried this restaurant for the first time. Initially the hostess was not polite but we overlooked it as she was young. Drinks and focaccia bread were great. However our main meals were quite tasteless and disappointing. I had escargot and they were literally burnt on the mushrooms. A disappointing meal as the ambience and location were great. Will not be returning as it wasn’t cheap and nobody left satisfied.
We were greeted quickly and seated at a table by the widow . We shared a Calimari appy which was tasty with picked onions and what looked like dried or fried olives the girls had the chowder and said it was tasty the mains were sesame crusted snapper ,seafood pasta also tasty the girls had beet salad which was small with four small beets and some greens drenched in balsamic glaze which they said was just ok we shared the creme brule also tasty. The service was just ok with our waitress doing double duty making drinks with a bus girl serving our food which didn’t come as ordered each time. Overall the food was above average but for the price I would expect better service and food quality.
Thank you for the complimentary wine. Our experience was much more positive this time. Food came out promptly and all at the same time.
The food and service is AMAZING! I have been here 3 times and have never been disappointed :)
Our go to in fort langley. Great food good wines and beers. Family friendly without losing the quality for the “grown ups”.
First of all, LOVE Ft. Langley! Rail & River is a nice upscale dining addition to the charm and walkability of the town, with a great atmosphere and a fabulous location right next to the water. Have been now a number of times, and it's always been a lovely evening. They're consistent on the quality... will return.
The staff were so great ,enjoyed the whole experience.
Nice place, small menu which we prefer, duck was prepared medium rare, I prefer mine slightly better done and had requested this.Thought the prices were reasonable except for the wine, cheapest bottle was $55, this is a nice place but it’s not fine dining so a more economical wine would be an improvement
I would recommend it, as I don't think its fair to review after just ONE experience.
The restaurant itself is lovely, but I never got my starter that I ordered and all the other starters, came at different times; so my husband got his fries, and finished them before our friends got their shrimp cocktail., my duck pate, never arrived.
We were sat by the kitchen, and their starter sat for a while before it arrived at our table, we actually told the waitress it was ready and then she brought it over.
It took 90 minutes for us to get the main - which is long, but I don't mind too much as I don't like feeling rushed to eat. But as I didn't have the started I was starving by the time it arrived.
Overall it was expensive for the experience. I will try try it one more time, not on a Saturday night though before deciding it is a place we will visit regularly.
Hi there, Thank-you for coming in to try us out and your honest review. We are sorry you did not have a better experience with us. If you are willing, would you please pm your contact information so John, our owner could contact you himself? Thanks again for choosing us. :) Regards, Rail & River Team
First time there, went for a business dinner with out of town colleagues. There were 8 of us in total. The menu, the service and the food was excellent. Everyone loved it. Will certainly go back.
Birthday - it was good!
Quiet evening in restaurant with live music. Very nice evening.
Steaks were excellent, but potatoes and vegetables with steak were not very good.
One of favourites. Kid Friendly. Great food and always welcoming.
