Overall, decent flavor profiles, but, dishes has balance issues. One note on the flavor profiles, they seemed to repeat- dishes didn't always feel unique. Some (halibut, mousse) were over salted. Some (crab, especially) felt as if the protein was not heroed, and its subtleties were overpowered. One could say it felt like a collection of reasonably decently prepared food trends... but, we had notes on most dishes. Never really had a “wow” moment on our seven course taster. A few courses (for me, desert, for my meal-mate, the risotto) were disappointing. The desert had three components- one was ok, the other too salty, and the ice cream just had an odd flavor. My meal mate found the risotto had too many elements, drowning out the crab entirely.
If we had spent less, maybe we’d have enjoyed it more. But, in the end, you judge on value. If u buy fresh wild salmon that tastes like farm raised...
But the wines were excellent.
We were Blown Away! The service was superb. The wine was superb. The food was Phenomenal. What a stellar experience!
Tweezer food at its finest. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients prepared and presented beautifully. We had the 5-course degustation which, to our delight, was seafood-centric: oysters, crab, halibut, scallop...and a lovely chocolate confection to end it all. Portions were very generous as were the pours of the wine pairing, Oregon wines all. Our waiter, Owen, was personable, professional and knowledgeable. And damn, it was nice to be back at a restaurant after 14 months away.
Absolutely fantastic meal. Casual but informative and courteous service, killer cocktails and some of the most inventive and delicious food we’ve had in a long time. Wishing them luck in their new location! Will absolutely return on our next trip to Portland.
Absolutely superlative. Every course in our tasting menu was skillfully executed, with some truly blowing me away. Flavors were complex, presentation was very well done, and dishes had a fair amount of variety to them. The real winner was the dessert— a chocolate ganache with hazelnut cream that honestly blows away desserts I’ve had at several 3 Michelin star restaurants.
For $110-ish/pp for 7 courses this is a no-brainer for a restaurant of this caliber.
First time at Quaintrelle for our Anniversary. Excellent experience and looking forward to coming back!
Amazing! So happy with the whole experience, food, ambience, great staff! 100% worth the price
Perfection! Food was amazing and the service was on point
The food was amazing. The chefs tasting menu was so delicious and beautiful
Really special. Service was artful. Food was delicious. Nothing was disappointing. Much of it was inspiring. It's our new Portland favorite. Worth ever dime.
Did the 5-course tasting menu with beverage pairing for my mom's birthday. Everything was exquisite and the drink pairings were really fun and unexpected. The outdoor seating was comfortable enough for a slightly chilly May evening—3-walled tent kept the worst of the wind out and the heater was warm enough. A very worthwhile splurge!
We read about the restaurant in Portland Eaters and their review was borne out by our experience. The cocktail I had was so unusual and so delicious, the crab risotto was deep and rich, and the halibut collar (which we had never heard of) was beautifully presented and absolutely scrumptious.
Birthday. Server was fantastic. All the tastings were delightful. Thanks for a great meal
Such an amazing experience. The chef made some incredibly delicious and beautiful dishes and we left so full! Great experience
Wonderful 5 course tasting. Best meal I had in Portland
wow - everything was top notch - from the amazing dishes to the staff to the music.
We really enjoyed our experience here! Chef's 5 course tasting was incredible.
Excellent food with some pacing issues. I reserved an outdoor spot, but apparently it was not communicated that it was outdoor only to the staff, so we had to wait about half an hour to be seated. Every dish was excellent, and the wine pairing was also good. But we were there for about 2.5 hours for 7-8 courses, which obviously means there were excessively long gaps between some of the courses.
This is the first tasting menu I have tried in Portland since moving from San Francisco, and it definitely holds up against Michelin-starred SF options of comparable prices. I will definitely be back to try their longest tasting menu option (I believe I tried the medium length one.), hopefully with fewer and smaller gaps.
My wife and I both got a five course menu with the oysters, scallops Dungeness crab risotto, halibut with green curry sauce and dessert. The food was a nine out of 10.
Everything was incredible, but the prices were a bit hefty.
It is a wonderful experience every time we dine at Quaintrelle. We recently splurged for the tasting menu and pairing. It was a lovely and delicious experience. The wine pairings were unique (and some were rare) and enhanced the dishes that were the highest level of gastronomic art. So grateful for the memorable experience and supported the amazing team of humans at Quaintrelle.
Visited Quaintrelle as a celebratory evening, and as a whole left satisfied. Our dinner reservation for 3 people was at 8:15 and we were not seated to eat dinner until after 9:30 because they were not ready for us. Originally at check-in, they told us it would be an additional 10 - 15 minutes, otherwise, we would have figured out a different dining option. We understand that with restrictions, figuring out the pacing of the night can be difficult, but in consideration of the price and meal that you're expecting this is unacceptable.
We were given a glass of wine immediately at seating, which was appreciated. We ordered the tasting menu (could only do the 5 courses due to the late seating and restaurant close) and pairing. The food and was excellent, albeit tricky and messy to eat as some were served family-style with no additional individual plates until requested. Grateful our server was also lovely and made the experience enjoyable after the long wait.
Overall, would definitely recommend it, but maybe call ahead and make sure you won't be waiting.
One of the best dining experiences in Portland. Admittedly it was extremely expensive but the experience I think validates the cost for special occasions.
I chose 7 courses with wine pairing. Every bite made me think “This is my very favorite!” And it was true ... until the NEXT bite arrived, which quickly became my next favorite! A delightful experience to celebrate my book hitting the WSJ bestseller list. But I think any reason at all is a great reason to head to this gem. Even the ambiance in the outdoor tent during Covid made it special.
Quaintrelle is a neighborhood treasure. They have outstanding cocktails and a very interesting, heavily local wine selection. The food is truly great with an aggressively seasonal menu which rewards regular visits. Their tasting menus with optional beverage pairings are always a rewarding journey in addition to being incredible value for money.
Amazing place, great service and the best part of it the food. Becoming one of our favorite go to choices for dinner
#1 Restaurant in Portland right now!!! Chef Riley is a creative genius in the realm of Gabriel Rucker.
My husband and I had the 5-course tasting menu. The dishes looked very beautiful and were flavorful, and tasted great. The service was great too.
Absolutely incredible. We did the 9 course chefs tasting and it's one of the top 3 best meals I've ever had in my entire life.
Exceptional, thoughtful cooking - with service to match. And one of the best outdoor seating setups in Portland.
Delicious, and not over-worked or too spicy. Especially wonderful vegetables, but the crab was divine too.
Amazing food and amazing service. Highly recommend the chefs tasting menu
Incredible seasonal menu with cocktails that will make you remember why a bartender's drink will always be better than anything you can make at home.
I had the best vegetable dish in years and a seared halibut that I'll remember for a very long time. PS: do yourself a favor and order the focaccia with house butter.
I don’t understand the concept of being willing to pour a taste of wine tableside, but not properly serving a bottle of wine from there. The pace was awkward as the service. Tasty food, but price point needs to be paired with more professional service.
On a similar level to legendary Langbaan, well-presented food with high-quality ingredients and strong SE Asian influences. Well worth a splurge.
The food here is excellent. We ordered the 7-course option with the caviar addition and it was all delicious and well presented. The issue and reason for the 3 stars was the service and wine pairing. We had to repeatedly ask for water, empty glasses stayed on the table, and plates were not cleared before the next course came. For some courses the wine came long before the food. We paid $75/each for a wine pairing and expected something on par with the quality of food. What we got was a server that knew nothing about wine, serving us a collection he claimed to have curated himself, which would explain the cider-like whites and "alien" Spanish wine. The vodka pairing with the caviar was lovely, but overall the pairings distracted rather than added to the meal and our waiter's flippant attitude towards the whole experience was disappointing. Normally, given the quality of the food we would be happy to just be out and could look past these issues, but when 4 of us paid $1,000 for the experience, we had hoped for something a little more special.
Hi Craig, Thank you for pointing out our missteps, its the only way we get better. I'd love to dig a little deeper into your experience and how we didn't meet some of your expectations. Please reach out to me firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to discuss your experience further. Thank you again on your desire to help make the Quaintrelle experience second-to-none. Warm Regards, David C. Foulke General Manager
Owen the server was fantastic. We did the the tasting menu which was delicious. Only downside was the tented covid dining, but we’d definitely go back.
This place is amazing. The food and service were excellent.
We dined in for a special birthday dinner and did the chef's 7 course tasting menu. Everything was exceptional from the service, food presentation, dishes, quality to the ambiance. This is a romantic, hip spot and is more of an experience than just a meal. Highly recommend!
Awesome meal!! Great service!! That was my first time and I will definitely be coming back!
