Pushkin Russian Restaurant
Since our opening in October 2015, we have focused on bringing out the authenticity and deep history of Russian cuisine through our traditional and family recipes. At Pushkin, we pay tribute to the Russian as well as former Soviet Union cuisines from counties such as Ukraine, Armenia, Uzbekistan and Georgia which had a tremendous impact on what is considered Russian cuisine today. We believe this notion creates both unique and new dishes for you to try out!

Service is terrible but the food was good. Arrived for our reservation on time and my date and I were seated at a large table (meant for at least a party of 4) because it was the only table available. We waited at that table for nearly 20 minutes before we were even given water and then 5 minutes later were asked to move to a smaller table so a larger party could take the table we were in! We moved and then continued to wait. By the time that anyone came by to take our drink order we had already been seated for 30 minutes. Everything took so long so we decided to forego dessert and when we finished our meal we asked 3 times to get the check and waited another 30 minutes for it to arrive. That table of 5 people who took our original table and showed up nearly 30 minutes after us? They ordered an additional course than us, paid and left the restaurant before we even received our check! Absolutely horrible service. There really seemed to be only one waiter on staff and a couple other employees who would pop out occasionally to assist but were utterly useless. Our dinner for 2 people took 3 hours! Completely destroyed the rest of our plans for the evening. Food was mostly really good, but my entree was served with cold mashed potatoes.
They need to hire a Russian chef. I am very familiar with Russian cuisine and this wasn't nearly as good as I hoped. Also, there was just one waiter, so he was understandably overworked. Unless changes are made. I can't see giving it another try.
The food was very good. I found the duck breast didn’t have good value since it was one of the most expensive main courses and offered a very small portion, not even a fourth of a breast.
The waitress was very, very nice. Ya
The food, service, and ambience was wonderful. The borscht was delicious. Highly recommend.
I never usually post reviews but I had an unacceptable experience here. Had reservations at 845 and were sat rather promptly. They brought out water and bread and never came back. We waited almost 40 mins and no one ever came to take our order of even acknowledge we were there or someone would take care of us shortly. This was also our anniversary dinner which ended up with us having to figure out where to find a meal at on such short notice. Staff seemed to serve and attend to every single table in and out the restaurant except ours. I’m generally patient and give places the benefit of the doubt but this was just awful. We ended up just getting up and leaving. I genuinely hope that no one ever has to have this experience here that we did.
Amazing experience. Food was very authentic, fresh, delicious and great presentation
Very expensive and very poor services, menu was poor too
Our experience at Pushkin was disappointing given the cost of the restaurant. Prices were different (and higher) than what were shown on the online menu. There was a significant wait to receive basic drinks, like beer, that required no mixing, even though the restaurant was not full. We had the chef's appetizer platter and red caviar to start, but decided not to order anything further based on the quality of these dishes. In addition to presentation issues (the caviar was served unchilled in a metallic bowl) the food was rather basic all around. If you are willing to buy yourself some caviar, lox, and make some crepes, you can easily recreate the same dishes at home. Overall, expect the quality of the food and service to be much below what the average review score suggests.
Not a lot of options on the menu for food and drinks. The place looks nice and service a bit slow but good.
expensive for someone in my socio-economic position, but the food was really good.
Great Russian food with Russian Decor!
It was ok but the online menu was VASTLY different than what was really offered. The online menu had 3 items I wanted to try but only one was on the actual menu. It was the veal and even though it was a 5:15 reservation they were out. The food was ok but the overall experience was somewhat uncomfortable. The stroganoff was nothing more than a VERY fatty ribeye steak with a cream sauce on it. The elk was tough and dry.
Unique, well executed menu. Only place that I know you can get rabbit (gasp) in greater SD. Very well cooked, not the usual dried out formulation. Interesting Georgian wines. Some of which I liked very much and one not so much.
Excellent atmosphere and service. The food is tasty and authentic. I felt like in Russia. I highly recommend this place if you want to take your special one on a date. Also, try kvass, you won't regret it!
This was my initial time eating Slavic dishes and they were amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone willing to explore food options, outside of the norm.
The dishes reminded my husband of his Mom’s cooking. Everything we ordered was delicious!
Enjoyed the lamb shank!
Cool ambience, excellent service and enjoyed the hearty food. The veal chop and beet salad were our favorites
A terrible experience. Awful service. Mediocre food. High prices. Dirty restaurant. Zero stars.
We ‘ve celebrate my son birthday. Super enjoyed Russian food and infusion vodka. Highly recommended salo,
My mother would be proud of Pushkin. You can get comfort food (like borscht and cabbage rolls) and fine cuisine like duck. It’s all very good. Be sure try the Georgian wines too.
Amazing service and outstanding eats.
Fantastic dinner and wonderful service
The host in the magician getup seemed annoyed when We showed up for our 630pm reservation. The food was a huge let down. The potato mushroom dumplings and the Georgian soup was the only decent thing. We asked the server for the popular dishes and ordered two of them (the Moscow duck and Corning hen). My duck dish arrived room temp/cold. Horrible. Honey cake dessert took a long time to arrive and we thought it was being made fresh or something but it wasn’t.
Service was meh. Poor guy had to attend to 9 tables by himself. His mask didn’t cover his nose. And they do not seat you 6ft away from other tables. When people made that comment the host just said “yeah I know. This is all we have” and of course being Valentine’s Day no one wants to go and find another place to eat last minute. Made the whole experience uncomfortable.
Great experience. Service took a bit long but with COVID that could have been an aberration so all in all this place is authentic and very good
We had the worst waitress. Mariana. Waited 40 mins for a drink when I asked about it she said it was busy and I had to wait. She came to our table twice once to take the order and once to drop off the check. No I wouldn’t not recommend this place. Unfortunately the rest of the staff was amazing and the food was delicious however her attitude and lack of common courtesy and proper manners was enough for me to never go back.
Excellent food and a good atmosphere. Will definitely go back again.
The lamb and ambience were incredible! I definitely will be coming back on my next visit to San Diego!
Beautiful restaurant, delicious food and drinks, great service
We choose something a little different to celebrate New Years Eve with friends! None of us had tried a Russian restaurant before. We had a good experience here and would go back again sometime 👍
Beautiful, fantastic service, great food! I love this restaurant and can’t wait to return when they open their indoor space.
This was a late night find in San Diego! We have been trying to find someplace to eat, and it was right across the street from our hotel! Service was great and he spoke fluent Russian! We look forward to coming back and having a full meal on the next event, thank you.
Prices do not match service.
Great food and service. Never had Russian food before, was great.
Good restaurant, I would call it new Russian style
Food has gone downhill. Everything overly salty. It is sad as this was a standby. Additionally servers never brought serving spoons for shared dishes during COVID!!!
What can I say great food, great service. Considering our reservation was during COVID we had to sit outside on the sidewalk still wasn't that bad. I would definitely recommend this restaurant the people were great
We waited an hour for our appetizer but it tasted delicious
Overall three stars because the food was wonderful. But the service was poor. We had 12 people in our party, which was reserved two weeks in advance. 45 minutes after we arrived we had ordered our meals and eaten our starters. But our first main meals didn’t arrive for another hour. And they brought out the meals over 45 minutes (after the hour delay) so everyone was eating at different times. And they missed two orders so two of us didn’t eat at all. Worse, another party of 12 came in about an hour after we did, and they got all their starters and meals very timely and finished before we did. We won’t go back, despite the high quality of the food.
Amazing food and drinks, great service. Highly recommend the sour cream cake.
