A favorite of ours for dinner before the Seattle Symphony concerts. Service is excellent and highly attuned (no pun intended) to timing service to accommodate concert starting time. We have also celebrated family birthdays and other special events and have found Purple a great venue, kid friendly and an excellent choice. And as you should expect, the wine selection is outstanding and the staff very knowledgeable for pairing wine and food. What is also great is that it allows you to experiment with wines you may not be familiar with but are wonderful to accompany your meal.

Visit this place every time we go to Seattle. The staff are friendly and are very accommodating when it comes to the food as I often order off menu!

Out of town guests here for a visit. The food took over an hour after we ordered to be served and we had two people joining us on their lunch hour who work downtown. One was reprimanded when he returned to work and the other missed an important meeting. We won’t be coming back due to this issue. Too stressful on everyone. Our server was amazing though.

After many great experiences at Purple, this one was disappointing. The place was hopping when we got there, on time for our reservation. It was the tail end of the lunch hour and by the time we ordered the crowd was nearly gone. It took about 30 minutes to our food once we ordered, so long that our guest was afraid he needed to leave before his lunch arrived.

The food was quite good but I asked for a spoon that never came. The waiter seemed rushed. For a group of four, it seemed unreasonable to add in the service charge. The room was cold - I had to wear a coat throughout the meal

Great reception by the team near the door. Food was good as always, kinda felt a bit forgotten after the initial greeting by our server. I’m not in agreement with the new policy of gratuity, I’ll comment privately to the leaders of the restaurant.

We live in Seattle and planned a relaxing downtown weekend city staycation. We made reservations at one of our favorite restaurants, Purple, specifically for our favorite meal, chicken marsala (CM). Flash back 2 years ago when we made reservations at the Woodinville location for a special weekend retreat. We ordered once again our favorite, chicken marsala. After we ordered, the server returned to tell us that they were out of potato's! No big deal to most people, but keep in mind that potato's are my wife's favorite food item and one of the reason's we order CM. How can a restaurant be out of potato's? Okay, restaurants can make mistakes too, we understand. Fast forward to this past Saturday. We showed up at the time of our reservation to a packed restaurant, got seated promptly even though it was right next to the server station. The seating was fine even though I got to stair at the pretty brick wall 3' away, no big deal since we were so excited for our favorite meal, CM. To our shock, "CM is no longer served at our downtown Seattle location, so sorry". I guess it's our fault for not checking in advance. To top it off, you are forced to pay a pre-ordered 20% tip. Now, I have to admit, our server was deserving of the 20% tip, or even more, but to not give us the option just felt wrong. This is one couple that isn't going to wait for a strike 3. Good luck Purple, we used to LOVE you!

Elegant room. A little heavy with metal. Not cozy. A curtain separating for an office party is stupid. They needed their own room. Hard to hear my friend talk. Staff was extraordinarily wonderful. Halibut dry. Crab cakes best since Baltimore. Now I have to write a few more words or no one will see this review. Ergh. Hate this absolutely HAVE TO HAVE 500 letters or it will disappear nonsense. I will NEVER fill out one of these stupid reviews for you again. What a pain and now the end.

I love Purple, but the service can be very slow. So if you're in a hurry, make sure to tell them. I ordered wine and my entire meal the first time the server came to my table. I ordered 3 courses and was there 70 minutes. So that's a FAST meal.

The service wasn't very attentive, but the server's assistant kept my water filled.

I had a delicious Moscato. It's my favorite and I get it every time I'm there. It was a generous pour.

I had the baked brie for my appetizer. The cheese could have been a little more melted, and the phyllo crust shell was beautifully baked. It was a delicious but tasty appetizer. The giant crackers were a waste, but the sliced grapes were a nice companion for the brie.

For dinner, I had roasted chicken. It was served on a crouton - which was a huge crispy piece of bread that was impossible to cut, even with the provided steak knife. That was served on top of greens in a broth base. So if you waited and let the crouton bread absorb the broth, it was delicious. The bite was amazing. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and cooked.

For dessert, I had the brownie. The brownie was too bitter for my taste and was mostly one-dimensional. The balance with the ice cream was good, though the whipped cream didn't add any value. The rich brownie needed the sweeter, richer ice cream. The brownie was cooked PERFECTLY. It was crispy on the top, bottom, and edge, and it was thick and gooey inside. If you like dark chocolate, you'd probably really enjoy this brownie.

I've never had bad food at Purple, and will keep going back.

The place is very hip, great waitress, food is just OK. Also, I did not like that they assess a tip of 20% then tell you it to help pay for the employees benefits. Our waitress earned that for her self, yet the house keeps it and they get some benefits for it. Don't like that.

2nd visit. Very disappointed. We arrived about 11:35 and ordered about 11:45 and not served until approx. 12:30 PM. People were seated around and by us after we arrived and were served and almost finished eating before we were served. Talked with our waiter a couple of times and he checked. Apparently quite busy - but no excuse for an order to be overlooked for that length of time. And, unfortunately, we were on a lunch break. If all were waiting long periods, that would be ok, but others were served efficiently.

Have always loved this place. Sometimes it can be too drafty and cold, but not this visit. The food has always been good to me. This time attended to participate in Seattle Restaurant Week and they had wine pairings which was a bonus. We had a great dining experience and the food and wine was fabulous -- asparagus starter, pizza entree, and warm oatmeal cookie to top it off.

I visited the Seattle branch of the restaurant last Saturday with friends (Purple Cafe has branches in Bellevue and Woodinvile too). At 8:30pm the floor was packed with patrons having a good time (making advanced reservation is recommended). Lots of animated discussions and laughter. As we were already a bit full (had a heavy lunch), we ordered appetizers and decided to skip the entree. I ordered the crab rolls. Not surprisingly, we decided to focus on good wine. At Purple Cafe, you cannot go wrong with your wine. The wine list was well curated and it was easy for us to zero in on our favorite bubbly. I would have personally loved a bit more description about the wine - especially on the taste notes. I surreptitiously searched on web to learn more about some of the choices at hand. The appetizers were OK; not something to write stories about. My crab roll was fresh, but not spectacular. The service was top notch. Our server was friendly, quick and seemed knowledgeable about the wine collection. For us, the ambience made a difference. The wall-to-wall glass panels, the 'citadel' like wine rack at the center and the festive buzz (not surprising!) made us feel cheerful. All in all, a good experience. I would recommend it for sure.

First time at Purple and overall the experience was positive. Service was great, atmosphere is really big and open - and loud.
Only real complaint is the 20% "Commission" that's added to every check regardless of party size. This was explained to us as an add-on to offset the new Seattle $15 / hr minimum wage and only a small portion goes to the staff as wages. The rest is used to cover benefits and other costs of doing business. So when you dd on the 10% tax, 20% Commission and a 20% tip (or more), it doesn't seem like a particularly great value.

The Purple Café is one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Seattle. The food is always excellent, if a little overpriced. It's worth the money.

The service this time was a little off. They had just opened for lunch on a Saturday, and a few very large groups showed up without reservations, so maybe the staff was having trouble getting warmed up. We had reservations for a party of four, and we were seated promptly, but only a setting for four was on the table. It took three trips for the waitress to get the entire place setting on the table.

The service was slow (30 minutes to get our appetizers), but that may have been due to the big crowds that showed up. Our orders were mixed up too, and then the server brought out more food that wasn't for our table.

We didn't like that the 20% gratuity is now added to the bill. We are good tippers, but we didn't feel that they deserved 20% today.

I went to Purple almost exactly one year ago and had a fantastic experience and was excited to go back. I’m not sure what changed over the course of the year, but the service was the worst I have ever had and when I complained, the waitress had the nerve to tell us that we were just trying to get a free meal. Unbelievable! I will never go back or recommend them again.

This is one of those restaurants that maintains its profit margins on the backs of the staff by taking 20% of their tips to pay their wages. They implement a mandatory 20% tip on all checks. I think this is an unfair practice.

3 out of four meals weren’t good. The Lobster mac and cheese was dry, the chopped salad was like a bag o salad from Safeway with no flavor and the shrimp and asparagus pizza was dry to the point we had to ask for some olive oil. The forth meal, the pork loin was reported as excellent. The dates and gorgonzola were great as well.

On the positive side, our waitress was a darling and very attentive. We were seated quickly per our reservation.

Finally I enjoyed the flight of Shiraz.

Better luck next time.
