Purple Cafe and Wine Bar - Seattle
We feature an expansive menu ranging from artisan cheeses, starters, soups, salads, sandwiches and pizzas to pasta and seafood. We take a great deal of pride in utilizing the most fresh and local ingredients.
On the wine side of things our wine list features over 80 glass and 600 bottle selections. Over the years our wine program has been recognized with various accolades that include an "Award of Ultimate Distinction" from Wine Enthusiast Magazine and being named "Best Wine Bar" by Evening Magazine's Best of Western Washington Viewers Poll.
Ambiance was nice. The Charcuterie was on point. The other food was not great. We had the roasted beet salad, the roast beef sandwich, tomato soup and the crab roll. We didn’t like any of them.
All was good, except food was a little disappointing compared to previous experiences.
I did not appreciate the 20% mandatory service charge (taxed) which is "retained by the company"
The service was so great! They were attentive and read the notes for the reservation, and were able to accommodate our short time frame for lunch, and even able to provide a fantastic birthday treat in addition!
Every bit was great, and timed well! Would definitely go back, and share with friends!! See you soon!
TLDR: meh food, good service.
Went for a birthday lunch for a co-worker. I ordered the Purple chopped salad and mushroom bone broth lunch combo. Portions were small. The salad came in a small bowl and the soup in a standard mug. I was most disappointed in the soup as it was bland and did not have any mushrooms. They don’t do anything to celebrate birthdays but the waiter brought us yummy chocolate caramels.
Food & wine good. Service was poor. They were told we had a show at 7:30. It took so long to get our check we were late. Only saw our waiter when he took our order and delivered food. No check in and we had to flag down someone for our check. Still didn’t see our waiter
The food was delicious, the service was wonderful, but the air-conditioning vent overhead had me keeping my coat on and feeling like I was sitting outside the restaurant instead of inside! That was a shame, as the rest of the ambience was lovely. Would still go there again, hoping that someone at the restaurant will read this and adjust the heating controls accordingly.
We had a delicious and delightful lunch with old friends! Thanks for not rushing us and allowing us to visit!
Staff great and food options better.
I'D recommend the Purple Cafe, but not the artichoke and pesto pizza. There
was far too much garlic and too little artichokes and pesto flavor.
The diner having spaghetti and meatballs loved it and the party who ordered
steak frites was pleased.
The atmosphere is a bit weird with the spiral staircase of wine bottles winding up through the
center of the room. The room's size made it pretty noisy but not unbearable. Hearing each other
and the waiter speak proved difficult at times. Nonetheless, I would try this restaurant again.
The food was fabulous as was the service. Purple Cafe has a wonderful ambiance and is perfect for a date night. The noise level was a little high once the restaurant filled up but that wouldn't keep me from going back again.
Our service was soooooo much better on the second visit!
It was a busy Sunday evening with everyone trying to dine before their shows at nearby theaters. My date and I were in no rush and were enjoying ourselves and we were served in a timely fashion. While we were served as expected, the server was not friendly or welcoming and was annoyed to split our check. I was surprised by the experience but it will not keep me from returning to the restaurant. The food is great and the space is lovely.
The meal started out well. The appetizers were delicious but then it took almost an hour for our main courses to show up. Two people in our group ordered Osso Bucco and said it was inedible. My sandwich tasted like it had sat in a warming area for a long time. At this point we didn’t have time for dessert before our show, so I can’t comment on that. After our delay, our waitress would not even make eye contact. In the end, we were left disappointed by our dining experience. We will not be eating at Purple again.
The servers are friendly and helpful. The food is fairly good. The restaurant needs help in a few areas, though. We waited 20 minutes to be seated with reservations, while looking at empty tables. The flow of traffic doesn’t work well—spacing of tables is tight. You sit fairly tucked in to your table so servers can pass by, which is constant. The noise level is loud—I could hear the person next to me but not everyone in our party of six.
Menu has changed and does not offer the same quality as it did two years ago. Be prepared fo a 20% service charge that they don't earn you about on the menu.
The prices are way too expensive for the quality of the food and the small portion sizes. Also service is extremely slow.
Busy holiday season and food was slow coming out of the kitchen. Waited for 45 min for appitizers and they finally came with our dinner. Give yourself lots of time if you are going to a show. We did 2 hours and we had to rush out.
Its extremely noisy - not a great place to have any conversation!
Food was just ok. Pretty bland and basic. Beautiful setting and thoughtful service.
Party of 4 for mother daughter night! Noisy but only the sound of fun, joy and celebration ! Our waitress was delightful and engaging. Wine steward was knowledgeable and helpful!
The food was tasteless and almost inedible. It was so crowded there were people everywhere and it was so loud I couldn’t hear anything my husband said. The tables were so close together that I could however hear everything the table next to us said. All in all it was a horrible evening. The food has been hit or miss over the years, this was definitely a miss. We won’t be back. Also, not much for vegetarians or celiac sufferers.
Purple is a wonderful venue for catching a delicious meal before attending one of the many live theaters in downtown Seattle. Our waiter suggested some excellent wines to go with our meal and our personal preferences. His personality was kind and attentive really making our mealtime a joy.
Overall a nice dinner and wine experience. Had a lovely and helpful server who helped decide on what wine flights we wanted based on our taste preference. She was extremely knowledgeable and taught us a few things or two about wines which is good for a wine bar. The four of us shared a steak with potatoes in duck fat, delicious duck two ways (the celeriac purée was intense and apple compote was amazing) and lobster Mac n cheese. We also had three cheese and two meat plate and some Gorgonzola dates for appetizers. The dates were 5 small toasty delicious dates that melted in your mouth. And then wrapped all that up with a vanilla bean Creme brûlée. Food was great. Definitely a special occasion kind of thing. The place is packed at dinner hours so definitely would need to make reservations. Unless you’re going to the bar for some good extensive list of wines and knowledge and those Gorgonzola dates. That would be a good date.
Such a great experience loved that they do a wine pairing for each dish. Also all the food was amazing. Loved the brussel sprouts and bread pudding.
It is a cool place to go at least once. It would be nice if they would redesign the entry. The way the hostess station is designed is inconvenient for them and for the peeps waiting to be seated. Way too crowded...
Once seated, the food and wine was delish. Pretty small portions, which I actually like, but not for the price though. Also, the noise level is off the charts and I wouldn't call it "Energetic." It's way too loud and distracting. Hard to have a nice conversation without turning my head to hear my companion better. And I have no hearing loss!
So, yes I would recommend to a friend but with all the warnings listed above.
Waiter dropped one of our entrees—offered compensation but didn’t follow through. Long wait for order to be taken, long wait for drinks, long wait for everything. Purple’s been fine in the past. Not so great this time.
My chicken sandwich was cold when it arrived, as were the sweet potato fries. Seems that the food is sitting too long at the kitchen before making its way to the customer.
The prices are getting higher, and the value isn't there.
rip off - I ordered a bottle of bubbly and wanted to pay for it myself separate from splitting the lunch tab with friends. $17 service charge on an $85 dollar bottle of wine. I think they should have rethought this - I will think long and hard before I ever go there again. We were out in time but the server was not friendly or accommodating; the bus person was extremely friendly and helpful. the 20% service charge was on the food bill as well. IF service is dreadful you still get dinged for the fees - on the bubbly I think it was very outrageous.
We had reservations and were asked if we were attending a show or concert to ensure we would be on time. We were shown to our table without delay. Our server was excellent and attentive and the food was delicious. Will definitely come again.
Just a so-so experience. Wouldn't recommend. Food is overpriced, as is the wine. Atmosphere is open and noisy. Some may find it enjoyable but not my cup of tea. The waitress was the only saving grace.
We had reservations for 1:45 before the theatre....informed both the hostess and our server of our time constraint. We received our appetizers, but never got our entrees...had to leave for the show without dinner.
Although I would recommend I would tell them that the food is good but the house red was terrible. For $11.50 per glass the quality should be much higher.
Basically this is a good cafe for a quickly served meal with friends in a good downtown location.
Outstanding Wine Pairing Menu. Delicious, big servings. Great value and service.
PC&WB has a handy location and ample parking. The food was good and the staff was courteous and prompt. That said, it was really loud. We could hardly talk to one another. And, our table was VERY close to couple sharing a conversation with piercing voices I did not especially want to hear. Would I recommend PC&WB? Maybe.
The service was super bad.
This was our first visit to Purple Cafe and I am sure we will return. The menu has a nice selection of small plates, salads, etc. with the option to add a choice of protein. The food was served in a reasonable time, service was attentive. It is very dark inside, although all the windows and winter bright outside lights let light in. The design is interesting and engaging. This restaurant is one that automatically adds 20% service fee. There is an explanation on your receipt saying the company uses it for staff salaries and benefits. So, that's fine. What we didn't quite understand is there is a line on your credit card slip indicating "additional tip" with space to fill in an amount. I'm sorry, but 20% is plenty. On the other hand, I do want to be sure servers gets paid well. It left us a bit confused.
Absolutely delicious!! Such a great atmosphere! Enjoyed every minute of my visit!
This was my third time visiting and while the food was overall very good (especially the appetizers, tuna was fabulous!), the service was pretty dismal. The server was not knowledgeable about wine despite this being a wine bar and the wine I asked about being on the feature sheet. At my request she sent the sommelier Colin to us, but he completely vanished after bringing me a glass of wine and didn't return with a recommendation I asked for or even to follow up. This is certainly not acceptable for a WINE bar. It added insult to injury when the waitress showed up with the bill to tell us 20% tip was automatically added. Perhaps this is why she didn't care to actually provide service to us?
We had a reservation and were seated almost immediately upon arrival. Service was good - not too much or too little attention. Food was good. Poke was not spicy, but sweet. Not expected and not the preference, but it was edible. Roast beef dip sandwich with bone broth dip was fantastic!
Huge wine menu and decent food menu. Prices of wine go from average to “wow! What do they do for a living?!” Ha! No, but really - there’s something to fit most budget levels.
I love Purple. It’s one if my favorites. I e been many many times and hope to keep going for many years to come!
