Purloo was not the easiest restaurant to get to. My group walked there, which I would not recommend. It is in a food museum. The museum looked really interesting, but unfortunately was closed. Purloo was a very spacious and quiet restaurant. The majority of the tables were empty on a Saturday night at dinner time. We had made a reservation, but it did not seem necessary. The drinks are great although expensive and small. Unfortunately, we were not given the list of specials of the day until after we had ordered our drinks. The drink specials listed looked great though. I wish we had seen that menu before ordering drinks! The food options all sound amazing, although everything is pricy. We ordered the Southern board appetizer. It was barely enough for five people to get a bite of everything. It was really good though! Probably the highlight of the meal. Our entrees were fine. I had the burgoo, which was a stew of lamb and oxtail with beans and cornbread. It was pretty good. Desserts were good. Overall, the service was good. I would recommend eating at Purloo if you want a nice dining experience and weren't able to get a reservation at another one of New Orleans' fantastic restaurants.

Ate at the stools next to the kitchen. The chef and owner is very personable, and loves to share the story behind each dish on the menu. Definitely makes a visit to Purloo special! One of the best spots in the city!

Great selection of Southern Cuisine. I've been many times and the food is always excellent. The Gulf Drum is probably my favorite. The beet salad as well...and it seems particularly healthy!

Purloo is our newest find in New Orleans. Loved sitting at the kitchen bar where we could see our meal prepared and met the chef and owner Ryan Hughes who was very attentive. He answered all of our questions and offered a lot of information. I ordered the she-crab soup which was outstanding. For my entree I had the panseared drum with stoneground grits and artichokes. The dish had a little fennel seasoning, which is not my favorite , so I was reluctant to order the fish, but chef Hughes promised me that if I don't like it he will make me another dinner( anything from the menue). I loved the dish !!! My husband ordered swordfish which was a daily special. Best swordfish he ever had. We highly recomend Purloo. On our next visit to the big easy we are planing on enjoying dinner at Purloo again.

Purloo was OK, but the completion in New Orleans is stiff. In the grand scheme of things, there are many better choices.

Sat at the chef's bar and watching Ryan at work and having him share his thoughts on menu items was amazing. We asked him to serve us his favorite and got fantastic New York strips. Unfortunately the service from the waitress was friendly but slow and mediocre.

Went for the highly touted Southern Cuisine. Found some of our food a little generic. Sat at the bar. The chef was great, very friendly. Drinks were delicious. But as the night got dark, people seated at the chef's bar had to pull out their flashlights on their cell phones to read their menus. Would return if visited the Southern Food Museum for lunch but not a special dinner.

We enjoyed the food and service. Our main waiter was a bit pushy for our taste, but very attentive. We were particularly impressed with the good service and polite manner of the young man who seemed to be the waiter in training who was responsive for filling our water glasses and serving some of the food. What really ruined the meal and experience --especially for my wife--was the chef's extreme rudeness to the young waiter that we so enjoyed. The kitchen is open and so we had a front row seat to the chef berating the young server in a manner that was unprofessional and unproductive. Because of watching the chef's behavior we are unlikely to return here.

Hubby, 2 daughters and I had lunch after enjoying the adjoining museum. My 13 yo and I ordered the she crab soup which was very good. I also ordered the greens which were nicely seasoned. Hubby and 17 yo daughter got burgers as part of the daily specials. Hubby also got one of the beers which he felt complimented the burger well. My 13 yo loved the plaid shirt theme of the waiters lol. I really liked that you could see the bartenders and chefs concocting greatness. The lunch price was a little high but comprable to NOLA cuisine. The waitress was adorable but seemed new but was very helpful. Recommend this place.
