Contemporary Mexican
Pujol is Chef Enrique Olvera’s genuine and personal approach to Mexican cuisine, famed for reinvention and ongoing evolution, where tradition and contemporary gastronomy live side by side as expressed in culinary techniques -both ancient and modern. Using both imagination and delicacy. Olvera recombines Mexico’s nearly infinite ingredients and flavors, demonstrating and extraordinary food culture’s potential in obsessive detail. - Private dining room - For parties from 9 to 14 people. - We charge 20% of gratuity at the end of the event. - We consider this space as the private room, the meal will be served as family style, that been said, the kitchen will choose the 4th and 6th courses according to you and your guest's preferences and dietary restrictions. Your server will elaborate a bit more on this at the time of the event.

Let me start by saying... Pujol has been on my personal bucket list for almost a year and a half! Finally, after my wife and I's third visit to Mexico, we made it! But most of you probably don't care about that. Let's get onto the good stuff... What an experience from the time we walked in the door, to the time we left. I don't want to give away too much below because it truly needs to be experienced but I will say that the food and the service did not disappoint.

A few of my thoughts:

I have read multiple reviews on Open Table regarding peoples disillusionment with Pujol's portion sizes and their service. I strongly disagree with those reviews and would say that Pujol's service AND the portion sizes were perfect. I did not leave remotely hungry... However, if you are someone who frequents buffet-style restaurants, and expects your waiters to hang out at your table and crack jokes all evening, then do yourself a favor and set your smorgasbord and blathering expectations aside and enjoy Pujol for what it is. An impeccable dining experience.

Atmosphere:
Alive, inviting, warm, with beautiful natural wood tables. Lighting was perfect and each table had a candle for a little extra light. Everyone was socially-distant and there were plastic dividers between some of the seats to allow for added safety (COVID).

Service:
Perfect. I could leave it at that but i'll give a few more details or highlights. We were welcomed multiple times both in Spanish and in English as they politely asked if we spoke Spanish. They were not pushy when it came to ordering drinks but gave their recommendation(s) when asked. The tasting lasted almost 3.5 hours but it only felt like two! The servers were always on top of refilling glasses, folding napkins when a guest stood up, and always seemed to know what we needed before we did. After we finished our server walked us to the door, thanked us for visiting, and we waddled ourselves back to our Airbnb. FULL and Happy :) THE END

The food was amazing, and the service exceptional. After 6 courses they take you to the outside patio to enjoy your dessert, but the tables and chairs on the patio are uncomfortable and awkward for dining. We did have an issue with the check- they charged us about 8x ($2000 !! usd instead of $375) and we didn’t notice it until the fraud alert from our banks came through. They corrected it and were very nice in the process, it was just an awkward interaction to have to have.

Pujol comes with a large amount of hype, and huge shoes to fill as one of the worlds top rated restaurants. They don’t have a Michelin Star, nor do I hope they ever get one. They don’t need it.

Service from the moment we stepped in was fantastic. Servers speak great English, are very attentive, and have perfect food descriptions.

Ambience is perfect. Music not too quiet, not too loud. Lighting was beautiful, with spacious tables, comfortable chairs, beautiful and clean restrooms. We finished our dinner fireside on their lovely outside patio where they also grow their own vegetables for the kitchen. A real treat.

Wine list is good, not amazing, but they have a small space. Drink mark-up is really really high. But that’s what you expect when a 7 course tasting menu only cost $115 US. Gotta make the margins elsewhere. Still value to be found however. We had a great Grand Cru Alsatian Riesling for about $150 US.

Food was beautifully presented, delicious, and sophisticated. Mostly seafood and veggies, but we did not leave hungry.

Don’t go here if you’re a meat and potatoes fan, expecting familiar flavors and staying within your comfort zone. This is not a steakhouse.

Do go here if you’re a true foodie, who likes testing the boundaries of flavor and witnessing innovation in the kitchen.

Best dinner we have ever had. Easily.

This is probably the most overrated restaurant I've ever eaten at. I am not a fine-dining connoisseur, but have eaten at my fair share of fine dining restaurants. Never have I been so disappointed. I get the distinct impression they are pumping out as much money as they can while they have a strong reputation, but there is simply no doubt that their reputation will fall from here, and fall significantly.

The service was sub-par for a restaurant of this calibre and price. Servers routinely asked us questions we had been asked a minute before, and water glasses and other drinks remained empty. It took 50 minutes to receive any food whatsoever. 4 of the 7 courses were disappointing; 3 were what one would expect of a one-star Michellin restaurant (but certainly not of a restaurant that has been ranked 9th in the world).

There was plainly inadequate social distancing- we were seated indoors, within two meters/six feet of other guests. I've never in my life been to a restaurant that did that during the pandemic, let alone a high-quality restaurant.

The final course was literally four randomly selected tortillas (one corn tortilla and three green tortillas, to be split by my wife and me) along with mole. Mole alone. Nothing else - no meat, no vegetables, nothing. In other words, the final course was two tortillas and a condiment. I can't hide my disappointment. I've never left a review for a restaurant before. The streak is broken now.

Será muy importante pedir el precio de cualquier cosa que ofrezcan los meseros para no llevarse sorpresas en la cuenta. Sería excelente que los meseros avisarán u ofrecieran a los comensales ver los precios antes de ordenar.
