Mother’s Day Brunch
There was no one else at the restaurant. There was no sparkling water. Food took too long considering the empty restaurant. The food was mediocre at best.
Great server, very accommodating. Now on to the food. Serving a 20 oz draft in a plastic cup for table service, please invest in or use glassware. Only one slice of toast w/ breakfast, normally served two slices cut diagonally. The oatmeal was bland and dry. Consider cinnamon/banana etc.”-
They weren’t even open for our reservation.
I booked here for Easter brunch for my family with 2 adults and 2 kids. They did nothing to make it special for Easter. The restaurant was mostly empty, not the vibe I was expecting.
We made a reservation for 11:30 and arrived a few minutes early. There were a couple of people behind the bar and another employee running around the restaurant. We waited at the reception stand for several minutes and were never acknowledged with a simple “be right with you.” (FWIW: We understand when employees are busy. You can only do so much at once. But good customer service requires employees to at least acknowledge their customers).
Finally, another person came in. He was an employee and ask in a hurry. But we were ready to leave at this point, so we got his attention and told him we had a reservation. He said, “I’m sorry, we are so short-staffed today.” That was a bad sign, and we said as much. We asked them to cancel the reservation and decided to go elsewhere.
They never canceled the reservation, nor could I cancel on Open Table at that point. And because I couldn’t cancel on Open Table, I was unable to make a new reservation elsewhere. We had chosen to go to MoPho, a place I’ve wanted to go to before. There were tables available for every seating, so we just drive there. In that 30 minutes, all their tables booked up. We eventually ate at another nice restaurant, but thanks to the Public Service experience, we not only didn’t eat at Public Service (we’d been there a few times before, just not for brunch), but we also were unable to dine at MoPho.
I assume that Open Table members get rated for whether or not they show up for their reservation. We have never been a no-show, until now. Even though we showed up and couldn’t get service.
Note to Public Service: If you cannot handle the workload with the staff you have, face the fact that you will have to serve fewer people. If you are having trouble hiring quality people, increase their wages.
Soup was very salty!! Service very slow
We had a less-than-great experience here. We chose Public Service because we had two teens with us and the menu looked varied enough to please everyone and the space is dramatic and impressive from the street. After some initial confusion about where to check in and where we would be sitting, we were a little rattled. The fact that only a few other tables were occupied when Open Table said there was limited availability was also confusing. For a while, we actually questioned whether the restaurant was even open. We had also read about the open show kitchen with counter seating, but there was no activity whatsoever in that area. The waitress later told us they didn't use it. We did eventually get settled and ordered dinner, but things did not improve. Of the starter and four entrees we ordered, only the starter - boudin balls - was close to restaurant quality. Everything else was either very basic in quality and presentation or downright bad. The pizza was the worst of all. It was on a dense flavorless crust that was almost certainly from a package of frozen pre-made crusts. It was not fully cooked through. The toppings were basic. It was worse than a lot of frozen grocery store pizzas I have had in the past. Our daughter had a hamburger that was not special in any way. It was what anybody could pull off in their kitchen on a weeknight with ingredients on hand. The overall impression was of average bar food that someone in the back was just heating up. The one bright spot was the waitress who was friendly and worked hard running around as the only waitress working the dining room and as one of the two bartenders. I'm hoping that this was all just pandemic-related and temporary. The location in the heart of the CBD and the impressive room may be enough to justify trying them again later, but only after reading some positive reviews! Our experience was not completely terrible, but it was not worth what we spent or the use of one of our dinner nights in New Orleans.

The food was phenomenal and the Sangria I recommend to EVERYONE! It all was delicious and a lovely Valentine's lunch.
This beautiful restaurant is located in the NOPSI Hotel. We enjoyed brunch during Covid Mardi Gras so it was unusually quiet. Our server was also the bartender and did a wonderful job. Drinks were great and food was excellent. We hope to try lunch or dinner another time. Covid precautions were excellent. This would be a great place for a date or special occasion.
We had our Christmas dinner 2020 here. The food was excellent! Beyond our expectations! The smoked salmon appetizer was the best on the menu but everything was so tasty and great. Portions we hearty as we could not finish everything. We had great service with refilling our water and the server checking on us. We were blown away by everything. It wasn’t super busy, seated right away. We thought perhaps because I’d Christmas and limited restaurants were open we would have to wait, well we did n’t. The styling of the restaurant was so sophisticated but comfortable. We are so happy to have spent our Christmas there! Highly recommend!!!! Thank you PS!

Not sure why the reviews of this place are so high but my group of 5 were throughly disappointed. We arrived and were promptly seated placed our drink orders and ordered a bottle of wine and waited almost 30 minutes. We requested bread and it never came. The entrees came 1 hour later. It seemed like the restaurant was catering to the bar scene than diners. The fish came and had a tomato based sauce that was very bland. The desert, bread pudding, was dry and it looked like it crumbled on the corner. The server kept apologizing but it just wasn’t worth the $120.00 per person cost. At 8pm the lights were turned up bright like it was closing time with the gate entrance closed to the adjacent hotel lobby. I have never experienced something like this. There are much better options for dining in NOLA.

Excellent food and service. Attention to detail and attitude of the staff was a plus. Great for date night or a special occasion. The rooftop bar after an amazing dinner was an added bonus. The next time I am in town, I definitely plan to visit again.

Service was horrendous. Took over two hours to receive our meal.
The food was great, for the most part. My husband’s steak was way over cooked but they quickly brought him a new one. My food and the drinks were delicious. However, the service was super slow. The waiter was very nice but it took about 10 minutes before he came over to take drink orders and it took well over 30 minutes to get food after ordering. If they can be quicker and more attentive, this would be an amazing spot.

Food was amazing - everything that our party of 6 ordered was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I had the drum and I think it might have been the best piece of fish I’ve had in a restaurant. The service was friendly, at tentative, and mindful that we were trying to get to a show after dinner. The architecture in this old Public Service building is stunning. The only drawback is the acoustics - because of the high ceilings and open space connected to the bar, it was very loud. Despite that, I’d go back again ... and again.

I had a great experience at Public Service for an early dinner before going to a show at a nearby venue. Starting with the spinach bisque, I was happy with everything except for the slightly overcooked cookie dessert. The bique included three oysters which were juicy and flavorful. The gulf catch of the day was drum. I wasn't a fan of the stewed tomato, but the sauce and broccolini were delicious. My favorite of the night: mac n cheese. The noodles were succulent, cheesy and fresh. Julian, my server, was attentive and helpful. I'll return.
We went on Christmas for what was advertised as a Réveillon dinner, but turned out the website hadn't been updated and there was no Réveillon dinner. It was disappointing, but we decided to eat there anyway since it was 6pm on Christmas and likely no other places would be able to accommodate us. I ordered the pork chop and the size was huge (probably 2.5 servings) and the slice was very thick. This left the meat rubbery and chewy...not the "fall off the bone, melt in your mouth" I was expecting. The caramelized sweet potatoes were VERY good, but the pork chop left a bad taste in my mouth. In general, I don't complain about the food to the server/chef (not my personality), but in this case, I wish I had.
Great food. Sous chef came from the kitchen to say hello and ask about our meal. Coffee machine was broken so the waiter went to the hotel to make our cups. Manager was also attentive. All around great service.
