The most memorable aspect of the public is how bad the service is. The food is edible and I would only go back to dine at the bar. The drinks were the only aspect of our meal of that showed competence. It's on a level of awful that you rarely see in New York City just when you travel. They're nice people but the place was empty and everyone is just lost like they had a really late night. We were chill about it as we were going to the museum around the corner but there's far better options within walking distance. Definitely not up to Schrager standards.

It was my cousin’s birthday. We had reservations someplace else but I decided to cancel when I read that this place was associated with Jean Georges... we were there on time. Were kept almost an hour at the bar with a bartender that either was exhausted or terribly hungover. Our waiter was serving half the restaurant and another waiter the other half, our drinks were delivered late and to the wrong client. We had to go to the bar 3 times to ask what was happening. The cheese fried appetizer was a joke, please remove it. The truffle pizza was good after a considerable amount of time my omelette arrived and I had to return it. An omelette on an airplane looks better. Too bad I can’t show the picture. Waste of time, money and I will never come back. The manager apologized but it was too late. Btw... NYT rated them with 1 star. Take your name out of this place Jean Georges. Actually I found a way to place the photo. This is how my omelette was served

mostly the service could have been better not enough attention to the details like clearing plates which leaves an informal impression. the pizza was perfect and the space is sexy. music in background was eclectic and fun. the nearby upstairs lounge and hotel bars are gorgeous maybe for a cocktail after dinner. my experience with abc kitchen the prior evening was flawless by comparison in terms of service and a similar vibe minus the convenience of additional bar lounge venues upstairs that the Public hotel offers

Sadly I would not be able to recommend the Public Kitchen for lunch (when I've been for dinner if was a very different experience). I was only able to book a table for 2.30pm (which was fine), but I got a call from the hostess 1 hour before my booking to say the kitchen closes at this time - not sure why I was even able to book the table if the kitchen was closed?? I said we would go earlier if they could accommodate us, as 2.30pm was the only option, and when I got there at 2pm, the restaurant was completely empty!!! This made the ambiance terrible, but the service from the staff was fine. When it came to the food choice I was incredibly disappointed. Having been to a number of the Jean-George restaurants before, I know the menus you find online are not always the ones in the restaurant so I called them on two separate occasions to confirm whether the limited menu I could see was all that was available, but I was told both times that the menu was more varied, and that anything could be adapted to suit dietary requirements. Again incorrect information but I spoke to two separate people on separate days and was told the same thing. Safe to say when we got there, the limited menu was all that was available and spoilt out experience - for many people their first time in Jean-Georges restaurant! The food was OK, and the kitchen tried to be flexible, but it wasn't great. If you want a burger or pizza then great but I think there are much better options for lunch around the city.

Food was ok. Smaller portions even though it was quite pricey. Probably won’t go back to the restaurant but the bar upstairs was good. Great music but again pricey drinks.

Octopus was beyond salty. Had to send it back. Squash potstickers were too fried and oily. Couldn't finish. The cauliflower was very good. So was the burger and scallops. The pink lady apple salad was too simple for the price. Chocolate cake was great. To conclude, the menu is hit or miss.

It was pretty chilly in the restaurant as I don’t think they have the heating on, but it’s on the first floor where people are constantly revolving in and out of the hotel lobby with winter air

Really nice bar/restaurant in a modern hotel with a fabulous entrance that is sort of like a garden. Menu is "comfortable" with a variety of options from pizza to burgers to more traditional entrees. Service was attentive but not intrusive.

Went here for brunch after staying the night in the hotel. dissapointed with the food.. would have expected more flavor or something . Server was nice but messed up drink order but no big deal easily fixed. overall ok experience but would not return for brunch.

Pleasantly surprised by the accomodation shown to my party. I had 3 surprise guests show up to attend my birthday dinner and they were happy to accomodate my reservation of 5pp to 8pp. Food was delicious and healthy. Loved the ambiance of the hotel, restaurant and lounge. Will definitely go back!

The service was horrendous. We have dined here before and it was fine but the waitstaff insensitive to the allergies of one of my guests. Appetizers were coming out with entrees and drink service was glacial. The restaurant wasn’t even that busy so I’m not sure what the issue was

Third time at Public Kitchen. Service on our drinks was terrible throughout the meal, any opportunity to get it right they got it wrong. Wrong drinks, forgotten drinks, no drinks, huge wait time between ordering and receiving (the wrong drink) Which is a shame, because the food is great - but it's enough to deter from going again. A simple apology or acknowledgement or a "this drink is on us" would have gone a long way.

Came for my 35th bday. The food was outstanding. Service was ok- the bread basket was not set out and we asked for it after our first course arrived at the table & we still had no bread. Had the duck and Spanish octopus apps. The duck was perfectly cooked. Spanish octopus was served with basil pesto fettuccini which was extra delicious. My husband had the lamb chop and i had the monkfish with polenta. The polenta was just ok. The desserts were not the highlight of the meal. Not awful but not impressive. The ambiance is very romantic. Couples were holding hands at the table. I was expecting half the couple to get engaged by the end of the night buy nothing happened lol there was a piano player and fireplace at the lounge bar part of the locale. It was nice to try once. Because of the price, i would not return.

My friends and I went for restaurant week. It was delicious...but I feel compelled to write about the service. We were there for nearly 3 hours waiting for our food. I think they prioritize non-restaurant week customers since we get the set menu/$. Though I understand that, 3 hours was really absurd. We were all nearly asleep by the end.

Unfortunately the service just wasn’t good at all and this is coming from someone who works in hospitality. Server seemed uninterested and not attentive and bothered (even though there wasn’t anything for him to be bothered by) Ambiance is great but with the food and service being sub par or less than that I wouldn’t recommend. Came here for a birthday celebration. Bartender was friendly and helpful tho!

Wasn’t worth the hype. The service was not good at all. We ordered only appetizers and decided to eat dinner elsewhere, given our server was rude. The person cleaning up the table was not trained properly either. He cleaned up while we were counting cash to pay the bill. Restaurant experiences are not only about the food.
