Provisional Restaurant at Pendry San Diego
Provisional menus focus on lighter fare made with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.
Amazing staff! Highly recommend the business lunch.
The Pendry is a beautiful hotel. Valet, Front Desk, and the servers at Provisional Kitchen were pleasant and competent (the hostess not so much). The table settings are cute, and the look of the place is fabulous. But, I think that's what you are paying for, as the food certainly didn't warrant the outlandish prices.
I ordered the Pendry breakfast ($17), and my eggs were tasteless and my bacon dry. Companion ordered the crab cake Eggs Benedict ($24), and they said it was the best benny they've ever had, except they had to send it back as it was ordered without the truffle oil and they splashed it on anyway. We also ordered an assorted pastry basket ($11 on the menu, charged $12) - but it wasn't so much a great assortment as you got 3 pastries. Also ordered o.j. ($6!) ((for an 8 oz. glass!)), and tea (also $6 for run-of-the-mill quality).
Total came to $85 with tip, which is quite the outlay for breakkie. Also, valet parking is $15 for the first 3 hours on a weekend, so that's not too bad for the convenience. Can't say I'd recommend PK for breakfast - there are other, tastier, cheaper places to dine.
It was a quiet evening in the restaurant, with relative few guests. We chose to sit at the bar and eat dinner there. It was a great choice and the bartender, Sam, was excellent.
The food was good, but not as good as I would expect fort the price. The waitress could have been more knowledgeable about the menu and more attentive. We were not offered bread and it took forever to get it once we asked.
Love this place
Sam at the bar is amazing
The chocolate dessert is the best dessert in San Diego
Service was excellent. The food is pretentious. Halibut over cooked. Our friend ordered the 79.00 tomahawk steak, and that’s all that came, a big ol plate of meat. This restaurant doesn’t believe in carbs. 3 asparagus spears served with the halibut.
Terrible service staff. They were not trained well and dont understand when to leave a couple alone to chat and eat. Food was way over priced for what was served.
To start off the location we sat was perfect. Not bright on the sunlight, room lighting was mellow. Dinner was perfect, flavors blended together perfectly. My wife and I will be back again. Also will recommend friends and family.
Great place in Downtown.
I come twice a month.
Went for brunch and had a great experience! Food was delicious, and there were several other menu items that we wanted to try, but would have been too much food for just 2 people. The French Toast was especially good! Would go again for sure & would recommend as a great brunch place in the Gaslamp district.
It was just amazing!
We had dinner here the first night and breakfast here for 3 days straight. This hotel is absolutely amazing && t
Amazing food but inattentive service during our lunchtime visit.
Amanda was great. Pizza was phenomenal.
The food and service at Provisional Restaurant are always spectacular. I had the tortellini (recommendation from my fantastic server Gaby) and it was incredible! I am also in love with the tiramisu for dessert - a perfect ending to a great experience! I will definitely be back.
Great location and venue. The servers were all friendly and accommodating. But the food was a bit blah for me with dishes borrowed from other restaurants.
We dined at Provisional on a Friday night before catching a show at the Civic Theatre. All in all the entire experience was excellent and I will definitely be back. For starters, our server Gabby was fantastic. She was very friendly, helpful, and informative. We started with the whipped ricotta & honey with grilled focaccia, which was delicious. Make sure to ask for extra bread though! For dinner I got the bucatini, and my boyfriend got the margherita pizza. The bucatini was delicious and very flavorful. The noodles were nice and thick, and the sauce was amazing. The margherita pizza was also excellent. Very simple, but with great flavor. The sauce/tomatoes were slightly sweet, which made a good contrast to the crust. For dessert, we got the bamboloni with raspberry. This was really the only disappointing portion of the meal. The doughnuts themselves were good, but neither of us were fans of the raspberry filling. I think they added orange zest or juice to the raspberry, which was too overpowering and tart. Just plain, sweet raspberry jam would have been much better. Like I said though, overall it was great and I would definitely recommend!
The service was great! The presentation on the food was beautiful. With the exception of the complementary steak tartare which we were treated to, the food wasn’t as impressive as we recall it being when we were there about 4 months ago. We had halibut which was cooked nicely but no “wow” factor and mussels, which I came back for. The mussels weren’t as flavorful with less “punch” than I remembered. We came on a Wednesday night and there were hardly any people there, though the ambiance of the restaurant is very nice.
I was seated near the bar. The servers forgot about me, and I had to flag someone down. I got a bucatini and a strawberry cocktail. The meal was great, but the service was sporadic despite the restaurant being half empty. The bartender ended up helping me out and saving the day.
The service was pretty excellent. We love the furniture very comfortable. We will back again.
The food was delicious! We had the veal meatballs and halibut entrée. Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing. 3 times we had to search out our waiter. We had to go to the hostess stand to pay our bill.
Delicious food, nice kids menu, lovely atmosphere.
Our waitress was very attentive and very polite. The mimosas are amazingly delicious and we will be back for more. We tried every flavor.
Chef needs to do a better job a) picking out large chunks of fat from Carnitas and b) cooking poached eggs - mine was closer to hard boiled than poached. Service was pleasant and attentive.
The waiter was bad and didn’t care about us.
Our server, Gabi, was awesome!! Food was delicious. We had the sunchokes, Brussels sprouts, and stuffed squash blossoms for our meal. Then, the best tiramisu ever and the Torta di Cioccolato for dessert. I would recommend all of them.
Provisional kitchen is a delightful place to have brunch. The live music is a nice touch - better than piped-in. I was disappointed in the vegetable pita. Last time I had the avocado toast which was amazing. And both times the person I went with had the egg sandwich which was outstanding. The design of the place feels art deco and the service was impeccable. I find the prices a little steep but it is the going rate around town. I'll only be able to come to Provisional Kitchen when I feel flush. Otherwise it's breakfast at home.
Breakfast was great.
The focaccia bread with tomato confit and veal meatballs starters were excellent.
We also ordered the Spaghetti Nero as one of our main dishes. It was offered and priced as a main course; however the portion was absurdly petite-smaller than most appetizer/starter portions. In comparison the Buccatini pasta main dish we ordered was very good and of a normal sized portion - but double in size of the spaghetti dish. We pointed it out to our server who said we weren’t the first to express the disappointment and she would convey our comments to the Chef. If similar complaints have been received, why hasn’t the problem been immediately addressed and corrected? The server confirmed the Chef’s only response was that we weren’t the first to complain. We ended up sharing the Buccatini - but the Chef AND the restaurant management made NO attempt to address and correct a serious mistake - and a still hungry customer - and make it right for something that looked ridiculous for a main dish. It was was A MISSED OPPORTUNITY for the restaurant to make an excellent impression!
We had the Ostrich Egg Breakfast and the 3 Margaritas! Definitely a cool experience and great food! The place was packed, but the service was excellent!
Close to home makes an ideal place to have breakfast or lunch
Our party of 5 ate here before my daughter's graduation. The food was delicious and the wait staff were attentive. However, the drinks from the bar arrived later than would be expected. The first appetizer arrived before the first round of drinks.
Great place to share things.
Great food and perfect spot for brunch outdoors. Service was great and great menu. Loved the mimosa flights.
Great place. Would go again. Only issue was that the breakfast casserole we shared was incompletely reheated and mostly bread/dry. The berries were sensational and the French press very good. Excellent service.
I had a business lunch recently at Provisional, and it was lovely. The space is bright, clean and rustic/modern. All very "insta-worthy," clearly by choice, right down to the flower-covered Moet vending machine, which our guests got a big kick out of. The waiter was patient and accommodating of our group's questions and dietary needs. Our Arnold Palmers were refreshed without asking. The food was fresh, beautiful and tasty--I had the daily catch (grilled fish with veggies and chimichuri). The bar area looked like a great spot to grab a drink, too. A cool, stylish option with food to back it up.
This place is amazing, love coming here. The chocolate brownie desert is out of this world.
Sam at the bar is fantastic
Service was excellent. Mimosas were yummy. Liked the music choice.
Best brunch in San Diego. I highly recommend sitting outside to help with the noise level.
Great food and even better service!!
