Out in the wilds of Wanstead, there lies a little corner of the Cote d’Azur, a department of the Dordogne, and if you whisper it quietly, a petit part of Paris. Provender Cafe Bistro on the High Street is a brasserie of some renown, and has been letting them eat steak for a good few years, backing it up with the traditional frites. Their menu encompasses the best that French cuisine has to offer, with little sap to English tastes: the cheese, wine, meats and pretty much everything else are from l’Hexagone. OK, so they do do fish and chips, or, as they call it, poisson a l’Anglaise.

    Excellent food and Daniel and his team are first class. Would highly recommend the fish soup and french onions soup and the steaks are excellent

    The food was very good but we found the new menu quite restricted. We could not find a dessert we really were keen on. However they picked up it was my wife's birthday so we shared a creme brullé with a candle and an impromptu "happy birthday". Brilliant!

    A really great find in a lovely area. Food always very good, prices reasonable and authentically French. Highly recommended.

    Nice enough restaurant. Good choice of menu. Not the best French onion soup I’ve had; I think the chef had dropped a pot of pepper in it. On the whole it’s laid back vibe and otherwise tasty food made it a nice dining experience.
