The restaurant was closed when we arrived despite a request to confirm our reservation just 24 hours before. A sign hung on the entry gate saying Prep Kitchen is closed without further explanation. Irrespective of reason, customers with reservations should have been notified.
Made a reservation. Open table emailed to confirm reservation. Showed up and the restaurant was closed.
Made a reservation 2 hours before. When we got there it was closed. Would gave been nice for them not to have taken the res.
I made reservations for a business lunch and when we arrived this restaurant was closed. I’m not sure why I was allowed to make a reservation. I have no idea if this restaurant is out of business.
This is my first time dining here and I ordered the Short Rib Hash and was fantastic. Our server, Tori, is amazing and I love the ambiance and location.
Our server, Emily, was very good. The food was just OK. I had the PK burger and my guest had the fish tacos. The fish tacos were good, but the sauce was much spicier than expected. The burger was cooked properly, and it was a large patty with several slices of bacon, plus some grilled onions, some sauce, and cheese. I would have preferred for it to also have some type of lettuce and tomatoes on it to balance all of the heavy ingredients. To be fair to our server, I never brought it up to her—I’m sure they would have accommodated my request. The wines were OK, and our server brought out a free little dessert for my guest’s birthday. We sat inside, where it was warm and not too loud, but my chair was so worn out it was not comfortable (the seat cushion was completely sunken in, so I was literally sinking into the frame of the cushion). We used to love this place, but now I’m not so sure.
Small menus don't expect exceptional food.
Good food and great service! Waitress was great- made sure the two birthday girls were celebrated.
We’d been here before and loved everything about it including the ambience inside, and all the food was great the first time around. Last night, Valentines Day, however turned out to be “amateur hour” at Prep Kitchen. Despite a request 2 weeks before to be inside, we were seated outside on the patio on a cold night on uncomfortable metal chairs to boot, and even though there were heaters, it was coooold! We ordered the brussels sprout appetizer which was great, but they quickly followed it up with our broccolini which was supposed to be a side dish to our entrée. On three occasions they tried to deliver other people’s food to our table. When our entrees arrived, our salmon dinner was raw inside and they took it back and cooked another piece for us which was also served to us raw. After the waiter insinuated that we didn’t know what properly cooked medium/rare fish was—we love it that way, BTW—we offered to take it home and cook it ourselves, LOL, which we did. We were excited when our request for decaf coffee was met with two small coffee presses, but a few minutes later the manager whisked them away saying they were regular instead of decaf. He returned with decaf and after four minutes of brewing, the coffee was thin, weak and unsatisfying. Our mini-ice cream cone desserts were received so melted that the ice cream couldn’t be enjoyed on the cones without making a huge mess. We thought we found a gem in Delmar but apparently they’re not very consistent, unfortunately. Not sure we’d give them a second chance.
One of my new favorite restaurants in town!
We sat outside by a heater on a quiet evening at Prepkitchen Basically, across the board, I felt the entire experience was a four star one, not quite ready to give it five stars but we will Likely return some day.
Our meal felt rushed. The food we had was just fine, not deserving of the high prices and since we sat inside the ambiance was not existent.
This is the second time I've eaten at PrepKitchen while in Del Mar. The food didn't disappoint. We started with an order of the brussel sprouts which were next level. My salmon dish was mouthwatering - full of flavors and not over salted! So often restaurants over salt their food -not the case here. The food had a unique combination of flavors with crispy chick peas and a delicious sauce. Will definitely visit again. My first choice in Del Mar.
The brussels sprouts were fabulous as were the tater tots with salmon, creme fraiche, and caviar! We also enjoyed the brocollini and the Pinot Noir they served very much! The mac and cheese was okay...might have been better with something like a dash of siracha to cut the heaviness and a crispy topping (it was very pale with no texture on top). We'd planned to order salads and entrees, but the starters filled us right up! We were there for a birthday celebration and they brought out the cutest mini-ice cream cones filled with scoops of fantastic vanilla and chocolate ice cream--so thoughtful! The service was outstanding as well. We sat inside and the atmosphere was great...we will definitely go back!
The staff and service are exceptional. The food was good but not great.
The Brussels sprouts were AMAZING. And the fish tacos were delish. Our service was great and it’s a cute place. Would have liked a little more variety in the menu, but would go back for sure.
Very limited menu. The menu on line is NOT what is presented in the restaurant. Food was ok, service was very good but, we were overall disappointed. An average home cook could crank out these menu items. Oh and ONLY beer and wine no bar.
The patio is excellent and very enjoyable place to have a meal with love ones or friends.
Limited menu. Tried the lobster roll and was disappointed.
The waitstaff was excellent and the food was wonderful. Great atmosphere, wonderful food and a professional and attentive staff. What more could you ask for? We will be back. We also brought our service dog and they were very cool and friendly accommodating us!
Went for Christmas Eve dinner. We ate inside which was a little cramped. I would like to try it again sitting on the patio when it’s warm. After reading about the scallops, I was anxious to try, however not on the menu that night. Food was good, not outstanding.
We love this place. It’s cozy and casual and the food is creative and tasty! They change their menu with the seasons so even though it’s a smaller menu it doesn’t get boring. Great atmosphere and warm wait staff. Highly recommend.
I’ve been going to PK since they opened near my home years ago.
I believe that the ownership/chef may have changed, because the menu is entirely different and vastly pared down. I ordered the short rid with wasabi mashed potatoes. The meat was delicious and tender, but everything was tremendously over-salted. It was a beautifully hearty meal, but I would have enjoyed it more with less salt.
Excellent service! Waitress was perfect in timing in every part of evening
We had outdoor seating which was perfect till it started raining but the staff did a great job in making us comfortable.
The appetizers: Brussell sprouts were amazing. The tater tots were also very good.
My entree was fair. I had the lobster roll and it was 3/4 bread and 1/4 lobster. Way too much bread!!
The menu is not very inventive with limited options. The on line menu was not accurate with the actual menu once we sat down. Very limited wine list. Overall, I would pass on this place.
This is an old favorite. The servers are attentive and very helpful with any questions. The menu is simple but with something for everyone.
The food is quite good as is the service, however there is just one salad, a Caesar.
Visiting Del Mar for the day and we saw this restaurant by driving by, it had good reviews so we decided to try it and glad we did. Very nice restaurant with a good choice of food. The rose wine was delicious and the lobster roll was incredible! We sat outside on the terrace and it was just gorgeous .
Very good food and service, but a fairly limited wine list.
Friends birthday brunch! Our waitress was wonderful, very sweet and attentive and even brought out a free Mac and cheese! Crab cake Benedict was small but delicious! And everyone else enjoyed their choices as well. I had tangerine vanilla mimosa and honestly one of the best I’ve ever had!
Would come for brunch again :)
Everything was very good- you must try the brussel sprouts as a starter! The bolognese was very good as was Mary's free chicken entree. We are dessert people and I didn't find the three choices all that exciting, although we ended up with a banana split dessert that better than average. Our server was super friendly but we asked the server at the next table if she could please put in an order of crostini for us and she seemed put out by our request.
thank you for a great evening! there was a chill in the air but the heaters were great. everything was delicious and the service was AMAZING.
So nice to find a place where the noise level is comfortable and I can carry on a conversation!
We really enjoyed our meal at prep kitchen. Everything we ordered was excellent. Fish tacos were the best we have had probably anywhere.
The staff were amazing and extremely accommodating; we had a large party and it was no problem at all to do separate checks. The food was great. The atmosphere was perfect. We felt very welcomed and well looked after and our waitress was wonderful about food allergies.
Great food! Very courteous and attentive service. Really enjoyed our evening. Wé will be back!
Wine was expensive and pours were small
