Portico Restaurant - Richmond Ratings and Reviews
In spite of reservation, there would be a wait for an indoor table,so the hostess offered outdoor seating. It was a lovely evening and the outdoor heaters took care of any chill. It was quieter than inside, and we were happy to be outside and enjoying attentive service. We shared an excellent calamari appetizer. The entrees were beautiful in presentation and delicious. We tried different desserts, which were both beautiful and scrumptious. We lingered at the table after our meal, and savored a most enjoyable evening. We will be back!
This was our best visit at Portico... the owner was great to seat us outside on the deck on a clear cool nice got with the heaters working. The waiter was friendly, engaging and great sense of humor. Food was very good....almost standard Italian far..but well done. The outside patio is the winner..inside can get VERY noisy. Another benefit outside was from the Portico concierge....there very cool emissary “Porti-cat”.....the tabby that clearly runs the place. All told..a. Rey nice evening.... my wife and I both enjoyed the dinner, the staff , the location and the special visitor.
It was a great evening, we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and wonderful atmosphere. The outdoor patio space with the gardens are spectacular, my teenage daughters could not get enough pictures of themselves in the garden.
The Pene Vodka, Bolanese and the broiled seafood were outstanding.
Portico never fails to impress. We had six in our party and everyone agreed that their meal were outstanding. The only suggestion that I have for this restaurant is that I wish they would hire wait staff that had a personality. In my dozen or so trips here I have never had a waiter that was engaging on any level.
I had family visiting and had chosen Portico because I had gone there once before and thought they would enjoy it. They said if they come back to Richmond they want to eat there again. Our meal was fabulous, had it been warmer we would have eaten outside but we were seated right by the window so could enjoy looking at the gardens.
We went here to celebrate a wedding anniversary. Right from the start, Adrian, our waiter seemed disinterested and almost disappointed to wait on us. After an hour on waiting for our entree, I noticed both the manager and our waiter going in and out of the kitchen area. The manager told us our food would be out soon and nothing else. Adrian may have come to our table but never offered additional bread or anything else while we waited. Our meal was fair but nothing special but not at any time did anyone come to apologize for the long delay in getting our food or offer anything to make up for the poor service. On top of that, one of the members of our party ordered the cheesecake to go. Several days later, we were told that when the person went to eat the cheesecake it looked like it came off of someone else’s plate.
All in all we will probably not return again.
Excellent food, especially the appetizers. Very good pizza and ravioli. Service was very good, friendly and all drinks, food and check were delivered promptly (and we had a party of 7). Restaurant is decorated very nicely - good ambience. Definitely will go again!
The fabulous fall evening in this glorious outdoor venue was probably the highlight and it was made even more special by a 99 year-old-man celebrating his birthday with an elegant crowd. The entire restaurant cheered when his double-double chocolate cake was presented with glow in the dark candles. The food was more than acceptable but they need to up their game with the wine offerings.
Loved it. The outdoor area was beautiful and relaxing. Wish I'd gotten the filet my husband and daughter got because it was yummy, but that was my fault, not the restaurant's!
The bread "sauce" is to die for, and the dessert we ordered (chocolate custard, started with a B) was awesome as well.
I made the reservations via OpenTable and clearly stated it was our first visit and the occasion was for a birthday. Rather than accommodate our request for a better table than a two top by the kitchen they stuck us at a table adjacent to the window by the kitchen. We had the pleasure of seeing the wait staff rush a medical kit to the kitchen to stitch up one of the cooks, who by the way kept cooking with a make shift bandage on his hand. The poor table, when we were one of 6 tables occupied at 6 pm, and the unsanitary conditions we watched made a tough thing to over come.
The food was ok, my pizza was not thin crust oven neopolitan pizza as I was told. My wife got the pasta bolognese which was tasty enough to take home and reheat. I imagine I might have rated them higher had the hostess been accommodating and the waiter not have acted like we were inconveniencing him or even bothered to just tell us his name. With all the better Italian places I doubt we will go back.
