Best in Bryan-College Station
Very well prepared menu items
Great steaks and seafood
Many unusual choices
Good bar and wine list
An upscale Texan steakhouse with lots of stylish wood and no kitsch. The food was near perfect including filets and sea bass. The sides were great, especially the collard greens. It's right next to the George hotel, but I'd go there even if I was staying across town.
Porters is a good addition to the BCS area. I am looking forward to returning to try another item on the Starters portion of the menu.
High end steakhouse prices without the top notch service or high quality food.
Decent but overpriced
Pretty good place, but still struggling to get meat temperatures right. Good service every time for us. Manager was engaging diners. I like that.
Food was delicious!!!! Small quantity of it but still very very good. Service was subpar. Waiter didn't know all of his stuff including details on specials. Another strange thing was that the lights would dim and then get brighter and then dim again and get brighter...all 2.5 hrs. It was distracting to me.
Very good! Great place for special occasions and date nights!
Excellent, as always. Highly recommend the dry-aged steak. Starters and sides are top notch.
The crayfish cake was very good and the lobster bisque had pieces of lobster. We would order it again. Lamb shank and beef were good but seemed over priced. Paying extra for bernaise sauce seemed high. Beef came with roasted garlic but something else should have been included to tone down and compliment the garlic. We ordered sides which enhanced the meal. We celebrated a birthday and the restaurant was generous to provide it complimentary. We were very pleased that the restaurant was not noisy.
Outstanding food, drinks and service that would compete well with any high quality steak restaurant in NYC and anywhere else.
Our experience at Porters was great! Our waiter, Justin Scott, couldn’t have been better or more attentive. The food was authentic and delicious! Justin recommended the perfect and reasonably priced wine to pair with our food choices. We all had a wonderful time!
We spent around $300 (2 people)for a nice dinner with drinks, appetizers, and our meal. The service didn’t match the price. We often waited for drinks or to have our courses cleared. I expected a more fine dining experience and was disappointed. Not sure we will return.
Disappointing- I can't take business clients here. The service is poor (spotty silverware, no butter knife, don't replace dirty forks or knives between courses, forgot what the specials of the day were) and slow. The steaks are overpriced and the selection and cuts are not suitable for business dinners- no one is going to share a 22 oz ribeye, I need multiple choices in the 8 or 10 oz size-- like have a ribeye- not just a filet wrapped in bacon. The iceberg lettuce salad with blue cheese became blue cheese dressing over butter lettuce because they ran out of iceberg and the server didn't ask if we wanted a different salad, just wham, substituted it. The steaks all came out medium rare no matter what we ordered. The fried green tomatoes were underdone.
Amazing service and food! Everything we tasted was outstanding. Can’t wait to go back!
Delicious food , fabulous drinks , excellent service ♥️
Service and food both need work. By far the best dish we had was the appetizer of fried quail legs. Everything else was just fair at best. Hope they get it together. CS needs all the good restaurants it can get.
We made a reservation for my son’s graduation from A&M. The service and food were excellent! Thank you for helping us make it a special day for our new graduate.
Thank you for a wonderful evening and allowing Justin Scott to take care of us again. Awesome suggestions on food and wine pairing as always 🎉🥂
Came with a group from work and we had a really nice experience. Food was excellent and everyone liked what they ordered. We ended up sharing as we were so happy with the food. Ambiance was nice as well and we had a good time.
Brunch menu is very limited and contains no fish dishes. Enjoyed a Cobb salad. No balsamic dressing available. Husband had fried chicken and hoppin John greens. He loved the chicken and mentioned that the greens were very spicy. Table mate had shrimp and grits and she ate every bite. She is a very picky eater and rarely eats half her meal. I’m thinking it was fantastic. She did not offer me a taste.
Took a client to dinner at Porter’s - Friday night of a football game weekend. Staff was very courteous upon arrival. We were a little early so we waited for our table in the bar. Good selection of liquors and some nice cocktails as well. Seated a few minutes before our reservation- nice!
Juliette was our waitress and she was terrific! Very engaging, knowledgeable and attentive. Good wine list (should include years - small issue). We ordered filets and a ribeye. Interesting that a steakhouse doesn’t have baked potatoes as an option - just fingerlings (which we’re tasty). One issue with the meal (and the reason for the 5-star rating vs 5-star). I ordered the filet but the kitchen sent a ribeye. Rather than wait to eat, I just kept the ribeye - but it was pretty rare. Not thrilled.
Overall it was a nice evening. Just the one issue. Will be back!
We really enjoyed our time at Porter’s! The fried chicken and collard greens were delicious! At times, especially right after seating...the service lagged a bit. Our server was great, I think it was just logistics. Overall, we would return:)
Derrick was great! Service and food were perfect! Great find!
The first time we ate at Porters, it was amazing (4/18)! Everything was 5+++ from the food, service, ambiance. The waiter and the manager were the best! On my second visit and a first for my husband, I was really disappointed with the service. Our waitress was absolutely horrible (but, we did notice that the other servers were on the ball), and the manager (different from the 4/18 manager) was audibly arguing with a customer at a neighboring table shortly after we arrived. The food and wine list are great; but for a $350+ dinner (for 4), I do expect good (if not great, service). I will be going to The Republic next time.
Where do we start...bread was served after asking four times, food was extremely salty (other spices exist), extremely expensive with no sides for the price, small portions and lackluster service.
I was very dissapointed and quickly left and ordered dessert elsewhere. Not a great experience for the cost at all.
Porter's was delicious. Our server did not seem to have very much experience and therefore was below average for such a nice place. The owner came around to every table and even comped us an appetizer since we were not greeted in a timely manner by our server. Overall, a great experience.
Great food! Need more restaurants like this in CS.
The bartender was very professional and very helpful with the menu. His knowledge of the food was great and his recommendation for our meal was spot on. The atmosphere was great and the food was exceptional. We cant wait to revisit the restaurant and try a new dish. Hats off the Chef's.
Great meal and service
Wine list is nice, but overpriced. They are charging 3x retail which over the top for this restaurant in a college town. The food was overspice. We had way too many chili pepper flakes on our broccoli and the root squash was way over salted. The 10oz filet, while not listing it on the menu, had way too pepper on it. That said, out server was perfect.
We had a reservation at 8:30pm and were not seated until after 8:45. Once we were seated, service was average. The wagu was over cooked.
Overall the experience was good. Our service was great and staff had knowledgeable feedback for our questions. 2 of the menu items we were interested in were out for the night so that was disappointing, and the substitute (beef cheeks) for one was fine if a bit rich/unbalanced. The cornbread was fantastic as was the bananas foster.
The food was very good!
The food was good not great. The service was poor. Our waitress had no idea about the menu and food preparation and to make matters worse she really didn’t care that she didn’t know. Her attitude in general was flippant. The menu in general was limited. Up side, The George Hotel is great. The lobby bar was a fun way to finish our evening.
Great server. Sat at the bar and had a great lunch and good drinks. Nice atmosphere with great menu.
Fantastic food and service
Steaks were way over done even though specified how we wanted them cooked, and way over seasoned. Too salty. Carrots were delicious but collard greens very bitter. Noise level unbearable. Wanted to take my freshman for a nice steak dinner and visit but impossible to hold a conversation. Also all sides separate so very expensive. Over $200 for three people with two glasses of wine and one dessert.
Everything is delicious! Not to be missed are the quail legs! Best ever! Steaks are tender and lamb shank is out of this world! Sasha was a great waitress!! Service was extremely attentive! Wonderful wine list!
Our favorite place to go.
An attractive dining spot made casual with patrons in t-shirts and baseball caps and a high noise level in part due to hard acoustic surfaces, not a quiet romantic environment. Service was acceptable to good. Although I don't mind paying for value, the food quality did not match the prices. While correctly cooked, the salty Berkshire chop rested on bland creamy grits with four soft carrots. The tenderloin was basic, nothing special. The wedge salad good. Will not be rushing back.
