Service was a bit slow but otherwise everything was excellent.
Steaks were underdone.... so were the steaks for the folks next to us.
We usually go to The Republic but wanted to try this to see how it compares. It doesn’t compare. First of all when we got there for our reservations they had had a fire of some sort and had no idea when they would be back open. They can’t help that except for that they said they would call when the health department cleared them to open back up in maybe an hour but it could be longer. They never called. I called them a hour later and they said oh yes they were back open. 🤔 It’s funny they said they would call to let us know but didn’t. The food, for the most part, isn’t good at all. The steak and Mac and cheese were so salty. The broccoli was awful. It wasn’t hardly cooked at all and tasted like lemon. Not a hint of lemon, but like biting into a lemon wedge. We didn’t eat but one bite each and when we told the waitress she just said she liked it and was sorry we didn’t. I had the baked chicken and it was actually really good. The salads were just ok. The cornbread was good. Overall the food and service was poor and we will not be back.
Steak was WAY too salty. The manager did come by,but we were halfway into our food. It was too late to recover. The sides were good. And the Drinks Were Great!
We have eaten there three times and always satisfied, but this time my husband and I had filet's they were both way over done and dry. Everything thing else we ordered was awesome though.
Great Valentines dinner with friends this is our go to place.
Overall good experience with stellar service. Steaks were a bit over and undercooked. Will give it another shot in the future.
We had an early 5:30pm reservation as booking appeared busy being Valentine’s Day. They sat us in a small room 25 feet from the kitchen expo line. We asked to be sat against the wall a little further from the noise but were told they had specific tables reserved as they were so busy. The entire meal there were only three tables filled in our “sideshow” room so there was no reason to deny our request. We got the Valentines Special which was wedge salad, a porterhouse that we shared, two sides and a desert. The bread was cornbread which was good. We got fried quail legs in a sweet sauce which were good. The salad was simple and ok but the blue cheese dressing was a little odd. The sides were terrible. The veg hash was LARGE chunks of root vegetables that were undercooked and just bad. The Mac and cheese was extremely bland with no cheese flavor and came off as slimy. We had two bites of each side and gave up on them. The steak was a decent cut and cooked medium rare but a little over seasoned and drowned in butter. It was edible but below average compared to most high end steak restaurants and came off as a little tough. The steak has no depth of flavor you would normally experience at a good steak restaurant. I felt like asking for sauce but felt it wasn’t worth the conversation. They served it on one plate and brought a second empty plate for you to make a plate for your valentine which was odd for what is billed as a 4 star restaurant. We ate a quarter of the steak and were tired of it. The lava cake which we shared was lava cake. They don’t have much to choose from in the desert column and we felt the menu was limited in most categories. With tip and valet we spent $160. Most any restaurant would have been better and for a higher end place it was just bad. We were very disappointed and won’t be going back.
Good for nice dates. Amazing food, though prices are fairly high.
I book Porter's for most business meals. It's a nice place to impress business associates. The atmosphere is quiet and the food is delicious. I can always depend on this restaurant to live up to a high standard. I frequent Porter's because I know that I can depend on this restaurant to always have good food. I highly recommend.
Overall great meal. Chef’s veggie off the menu creation was underwhelming. It is a shame that you do not have standard vegetarian options on your menu. It would appear that you had such an option in older menus (lemon pasta dish) yet that could not be resurrected currently.
Took some friends of ours for a birthday dinner and had a great time. The food was great, and drinks even better. Brandon did a great job!
One of my favorite places to eat. Our server we outstanding. Can not wait to go back!
This restaurant is a welcome addition to the Bryan/College Station, Texas region. The setting is tasteful and the food, carefully edited, was tasty.
The steak was fabulous. Some dishes too spicy. No baked potato available. The broccolini was very good, but glad we told them to hold the peppers. Would rather have French or sourdough bread than cornbread. Wedge salad was very good.
They were a little busy, so our waiter was a little rushed through out the night.
We loved the steaks. Very good and tender. The fried green tomatoes were not good and were delayed. Waiter seemed preoccupied. Wrong appetizer, delays in orders and drinks and our separate bills ( we were offered) were wrong took 30 minutes to correct. Maybe okay if dining as two or three but not good for groups. Too complicated for the Waite staff to handle.
Went with a group of 6; three of us got out meals and the other three had to wait maybe 3-5 minutes; also ordered a shot of Stoli to go with my raw oysters; never arrived (wasn’t charged); actually oysters were great and briny; lamb shank also was good
We appreciated the General Manager’s wine and whisky recommendations without breaking the bank. Only negative was the meats were underdone and had to be sent back. They cook it rare no matter how you order it.
Great brunch menu, you won’t find anything like it around town. Big city menu in a small town. The pork belly hash and shrimp with grits were delicious. The service was excellent. We will definitely be going back.
We sent several things back. Soup wasn’t hot. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail didn’t smell fresh.
I loved it. Great food and service but the room I was in was awkwardly quiet and I felt like everyone could hear my conversant it was awkward...
We had a great time enjoying dinner at Porters. Everything was exceptional, a definite new go to for dinner!
Very sad Porter's has decided not to open for lunch. I expect the paid parking discourages people from going for lunch in the century square restaurants, since all other places in town have free parking. I think it is a mistake that will cost businesses in the development greatly. Recommend renegotiating parking contract.
Best in Bryan-College Station
Very well prepared menu items
Great steaks and seafood
Many unusual choices
Good bar and wine list
An upscale Texan steakhouse with lots of stylish wood and no kitsch. The food was near perfect including filets and sea bass. The sides were great, especially the collard greens. It's right next to the George hotel, but I'd go there even if I was staying across town.
Porters is a good addition to the BCS area. I am looking forward to returning to try another item on the Starters portion of the menu.
High end steakhouse prices without the top notch service or high quality food.
Decent but overpriced
Pretty good place, but still struggling to get meat temperatures right. Good service every time for us. Manager was engaging diners. I like that.
Food was delicious!!!! Small quantity of it but still very very good. Service was subpar. Waiter didn't know all of his stuff including details on specials. Another strange thing was that the lights would dim and then get brighter and then dim again and get brighter...all 2.5 hrs. It was distracting to me.
Very good! Great place for special occasions and date nights!
Excellent, as always. Highly recommend the dry-aged steak. Starters and sides are top notch.
The crayfish cake was very good and the lobster bisque had pieces of lobster. We would order it again. Lamb shank and beef were good but seemed over priced. Paying extra for bernaise sauce seemed high. Beef came with roasted garlic but something else should have been included to tone down and compliment the garlic. We ordered sides which enhanced the meal. We celebrated a birthday and the restaurant was generous to provide it complimentary. We were very pleased that the restaurant was not noisy.
Outstanding food, drinks and service that would compete well with any high quality steak restaurant in NYC and anywhere else.
Our experience at Porters was great! Our waiter, Justin Scott, couldn’t have been better or more attentive. The food was authentic and delicious! Justin recommended the perfect and reasonably priced wine to pair with our food choices. We all had a wonderful time!
We spent around $300 (2 people)for a nice dinner with drinks, appetizers, and our meal. The service didn’t match the price. We often waited for drinks or to have our courses cleared. I expected a more fine dining experience and was disappointed. Not sure we will return.
Disappointing- I can't take business clients here. The service is poor (spotty silverware, no butter knife, don't replace dirty forks or knives between courses, forgot what the specials of the day were) and slow. The steaks are overpriced and the selection and cuts are not suitable for business dinners- no one is going to share a 22 oz ribeye, I need multiple choices in the 8 or 10 oz size-- like have a ribeye- not just a filet wrapped in bacon. The iceberg lettuce salad with blue cheese became blue cheese dressing over butter lettuce because they ran out of iceberg and the server didn't ask if we wanted a different salad, just wham, substituted it. The steaks all came out medium rare no matter what we ordered. The fried green tomatoes were underdone.
Amazing service and food! Everything we tasted was outstanding. Can’t wait to go back!
Delicious food , fabulous drinks , excellent service ♥️
