Excellent lunch. Try the Philly cheese steak -- amazing and huge. Lobster salad was huge and wonderful as well.
We took my grandmother to Porters to celebrate a later mother’s day and belated 75th birthday. We wanted seafood and the one seafood item on the menu was not available. They said we could have gotten scallops instead but that is a horrible substitute for a nice piece of fish. Also, we asked if they had any veggies we could order- they didn’t have veggies on their lunch menu! The waitress asked the chef and he could make broccolini and we ordered it- the waitress forgot to put it in!! The salad we got (lobster Cobb salad) would have been much better if it wasn’t iceburg lettuce which doesn’t have any nutrients. At least the lobster part was good. The chicken Parmesan was tasted like pure oil- it’s as if they forgot to put spices on it. I do not recommend this place.
The food and service were amazing! Great atmosphere and extensive wine list. We’ll definitely be back!
Great service! Wish there were a few more options for vegetarians. But overall what i could eat was incredible!
Porters was great. Staff was very accommodating. Made for a great night.
We were celebrating our daughters graduation from A&M. Service was excellent despite the server having 3 tables arrive at the same time. Food was absolutely delicious! Wish were were able to go back more often. Will definitely recommend it to friends.
Good date night treat for my husband's birthday. The food is on the expensive end for College Station, but definitely high quality. I would go again for a special occasion. Would not recommend if you are in a hurry because they do take their time, but it is worth it,
Music is a little too loud. Food was outstanding.
The food and drinks were superb and our waitress, Rose, did a fantastic job taking care of us. We will definitely be going back on a regular basis.
Our main dishes were very good even though a little cold. Our sides never came out but I'm sure they would've been great. The apple pie and homemade ice cream were amazing. The manager recognized the issue with sides never being served and was very kind and apologetic - he owned the problem and for that reason alone we will give them another try. New restaurant and they need to work some kinks out.
Great food, great service. The food was reasonably priced for such high quality. You can have a non-steak dinner for about $30-$35/ plate and steaks will run between $45-$50. The chicken was excellent. A half-bird that was moist throughout with excellent seasoning. The appetizers were creative and delicious and the cocktails were tasty and original. I highly recommend this restaurant and will be going back ASAP!
Porter’s a very cool restaurant in a neat area right off the Texas A&M University campus. The food however was not worth the money. The pulled pork tacos were awesome, but the fried chicken has a sweet sauce that wasn’t good. The steak was way too thick, so you couldn’t taste the seasoning. The burger looked good and she said it tasted good. I thought $50 for fried chicken, two beers and Mac and cheese was way over priced. Will probably try it again, but now know what to expect.
Such a phenomenal dining experience. I have never had a more flavorful pork chop ever.
Such a relaxed atmosphere with top notch food and service. We came for lunch and sat on the patio over looking Century Square. Lobster Cobb was delicious and so were the quail legs! They have an great wine list and craft cocktails that I would love to try on next visit. Service was friendly and attentive.
We went here for my boyfriend’s birthday and were incredibly pleased with the meal and atmosphere. It’s so nice to finally have places like this in College Station! Extensive wine list and cocktail menu, and several craft beers on draft. The food was delicious- Gulf oysters were fresh, steaks were cooked to perfection and the molten chocolate cake for dessert was divine. I would absolutely recommend Porters for an upscale, but not snobby, dinner. We will be back!
I've been to Porters 3 times now. Service was good all 3 times. Food leaves a lot to be desired. I went this past Saturday, party of 6. We were the only ones there for lunch around 2. We sat outside, which is a nice scene but they could use some better outdoor tables instead of picnic benches. However I do believe I saw some nicer seating right outside the bar.
Food: I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. It came out cold. I didn't want to say anything because I wasn't paying for the meal and wasn't sure if maybe that's how it was suppose to come. Someone else ordered it as well and she said hers was luke warm so I'm gonna go with no. Flavor was okay but I've had much better. My parents split the burger and both enjoyed it. 2 others got the chicken parm sandwich. It was monstrous size and just okay. Wish they would have told them to split it, but I get it. If I'm paid on tips, I'm not offering up anything unless someone asks. So no big deal. Now here's what frustrated the heck out of all of us. We ordered 3 orders of fries. Fries. yes, just fries. We got them after the meal. Almost like a dessert if you will. I will say this was the best thing any of us had eaten there so there is a positive, but seriously.. if we are the only ones there, why did it take so long? Not happy. They should have comped it. But again, I wasn't paying so I wasn't going to complain.
The previous outings there were about the same. Food meh and service good. I will say the stuffed olives at the bar are at least worth the visit. Word of advice, always ask if it's big enough to split!
Absolutely beautiful restaurant and great food!
We were visiting College Station because our son was taking part in an overnight visit to Texas A & M. After a 5 hour drive and spending a little time getting him settled down we decided to find a nice restaurant to relax and enjoy a couple of drinks and a nice meal. This place fit the bill. The food was very good to excellent. The only complaint we had was the service. Our waitress was informed and helpful but she rushed us to order food. We would recommend this restaurant and will return when we make it back to town.
Our server was very pleasant and obviously enthusiastic about working there but the reason fine dining servers make good money is that certain standards of service are met there that don't apply at Applebees. Standards such as: The proper utensils should be pre-set before the food is served, the servers should know which person ordered what and not auction off the food, ladies should be served before the men, after the host has sampled the wine he should be the last one served a full glass of it, when guests get up to use the restroom the napkin should be folded neatly or, if dirty, replaced, managers should check on guests, not to give their own opinion on the food, but to hear the guests opinion - these are differences between fine dining service and casual service.
The food was acceptable for the most part but several items were overly salty. The dessert selection was pathetic. Chocolate pudding? Really? No care for the presentation, just a glob of pudding schlepped onto a plate. Is that really the last impression you want me to have walking out the door? Again, the server was pleasant and I really couldn't fault her but the training, the management and the desserts were things that will definitely keep me from coming back.
Great food and atmosphere, staff was knowledgeable and the food was fantastic. Loved the cocktails and had a wonderful experience. Will definitely return and am looking forward to coming back to check out their brunch.
This is one of the best places to eat for a special occasion, date, or business meal. Chuck and Bill have done a wonderful job and the steaks are marvelous.
Great place for lunch. The prime rib tacos were tasty. The meatloaf sandwich was gobbled up. Best thing on menu is the collard greens. Outstanding cornbread. Have been to lunch twice and already have plans to go again.
Porter's is a new restaurant and still experimenting with the menu. We commented on the small wine pours and they made the second round a little bigger. The chocolate pudding dessert was disappointing, but like I said...they are still experimenting with the menu. We will definitely go back. We love having this caliber of restaurant in our community.
Wonderful place to dine. Food was delicious. Very large side portions.
The filet was delicious. The cornbread is outstanding. The most delicious item on menu is the collard greens! My husband had the pork chop and said it was very good.
Incredible is all I can say. We live in Houston and were out for the night. This was one of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time. Amazing food and service! Five stars and more.
Generally the food was quiet good. The only complaint is that the 'Potato Dumpling with Bolonese sauce was dreadful. It was nothing more than overcooked and drastically oversalted, dried out ground beef. Uneatable. Everyone else was very pleased with their food.
Overall I was not happy with the food, I ordered the scallops and the mac and cheese. Mac and cheese was overly salty. My friend enjoyed her burger but didn't enjoy the fries. The fries were HUGE with no flavor. My other friend ordered the beef cheek and said it was ok. Cornbread was good except for they served it to us cold both times. Hopefully, this new restaurant will improve over time.
It is so nice to have a restaurant in BCS where the proprietors care about your experience and enjoy your custom. We enjoyed our second brunch to date this last Sunday and the experience was excellent.
Service was incredibly slow
Great experience! Justin our waiter provided great service. My daughter had a filet and I a bavette steak. Both cooked to perfection. Oysters and the grilled yams were equally fantastic. Also an amazing wine list.
The night we went they were understaffed and overbooked. Our waiter actually told us that. The food was good but the service was poor. We had to send back a steak and it wasn't re-served until everyone else was finished. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Just finished an excellent meal at Porter's. Our party ordered the wedge salad and heirloom tomato salad. Two of us had the bavette steaks, another ordered the NY strip. All were prepared perfectly. Sides included potatoes, broccolini, and carrots. All were delicious and each serving generously served the three of us. Tried the Corpse Reviver cocktail--yum! Very happy with our experience. Friendly greeting at the door, seated promptly for our reservation, and hostess was gracious about moving us to a quieter table. Service had a few minor glitches, but overall was pretty smooth for a restaurant that has only been open a month.
Very interesting menu - neat combinations of sweet and savory. Great wine list and some fun cocktails as well. Terrific service and neat atmosphere. Will return!
We arrived at 8:30 pm, with a reservation made weeks in advance. We stood, waiting for 25 minutes. Three times our table “would be ready in five .." Seated at last, we waited for someone to take an order. Finally we ordered drinks, with the server apologizing in advance ... "the bar was backed up ... " We ordered our meal at 9:15. Eventually 3 of the 4 drinks arrived. We had to ask twice for a missing Diet Coke. It eventually arrived but was knocked over by the server, as she placed it in front of my son. The glass was large and full so we had to move to a new table. We sat, at a table devoid of place settings, and waited. And waited. Three of the four meals arrived just before ten. 3 steaks. Each steak was $38, and all the same - rare, despite our different preferences, all pumped out of the kitchen in haste. We had to ask for place settings, twice. Any warmth in the meat was truly gone by the time we got a knife. And there was still a missing forth meal - a kids meal for our youngest. It did come, although they still had not brought a knife for his place setting. It was academic. It was too late for him to feel like eating now. And his older brother, our Aggie, had left. He had had to ask for a replacement for the spilled coke. By the time dinner come he had them box it. The manager came at one stage, to apologize. We heard his same patter to two tables near us. It included a reason that one cafe manager might say to another, but you probably don’t want to say to customers. With some pride he told us "we plated over 300 meals today ... " It's Parents Weekend at College Station. You overbooked. You took the opportunity to profit from a crowded weekend. And after all, the families that you disappoint won’t be your regulars. But they did select Porters, an upmarket, pricier choice, for their special occasion. Our occasion was certainly memorable ... just not very special.
It was obvious the waitstaff was overwhelmed but They still did a good job. Steak was good a cooked to the correct temperature. The room was very bright and noisy. They did turn down the lighting around 9 pm.
My biggest problem was the cherry pie for dessert. The crust was beyond tough and the filling wasn’t very good.
I will go back but most likely won’t go her with dessert.
Enjoyed my first visit. Top value all the way - I’ll be back. Thank you!
Food d excellent, fin place, expensive
Exceded my expectations. Menu could be a little larger but service, food and atmosphere were great.
Wonderful food and service, cannot wait to go back!
