Porron and Pina
Great Food with a different menu. Different in a great way.
Louder than we would have liked, especially since there were only a few parties dining.
Love the tapas. Our server was great - didn't rush us. Glass of wine and marcona almonds - perfect start.
Then we had several tapas - mushroom toast, tortilla & pork cutlet. All were great & just enought to fill us up prior to going to the theater.

We had another great meal at Porron on Friday night. It is one of our favorite places for a nice meal.
Thank you Christian! We’ll look forward to seeing you soon! Cheers! Tim J. Ratchford General Manager
We have recently had dinner at both Porron and Pina; the food and wine selection is the same at both, and it’s stellar. We had dinner in the lobby seating area the first time and were able to listen to the live jazz on a Friday night. They brought us a tray for all the tapas we ordered since our table was petite. The restaurant is very attractive, and our server was knowledgeable and friendly.

Excellent food and service. Don’t miss the smoked duck legs!

While the adjoining bar was tough and lively, the restaurant lacked the same uniqueness. Food was ok, munu had unique flavors but food was good not outstanding. Restaurant lacked life comparatively. Good... not outstanding.
Perfect for a lighter, pre-show meal of tapas. Enjoyed the varied wine selection as well.
Thank you for the kind review Rick! Tim J. Ratchford General Manager
Our first time here. A group of us go to Hartford Stage and it's very convenient to walk here. Enjoyed the ambiance, courteous staff. Nice wines and food was delicious and creative. Bit pricey even for fine restaurants.
This was our first time dining but we love Spanish food and Porron and Pina did not disappoint. We went with friends and probably over ordered but everything from the cheese plates to the tapas to the Paella was excellent. Cocktails too. We had a nut allergy in the group and the waiter was very knowledgeable and took great care to ensure food and drink could be safely consumed. In my mind any restaurant that seriously addresses nut allergies is 5 star in my book. The restaurant itself is beautiful and elegant. Love the round booths. We will be back!
Later reservation, so our seating was fairly close to kitchen (a definite no for me) and it took some time for our server to approach and he failed to ask if we wanted a drink, however, the remainder of the service was excellent and the food was superb. Steven, our server, was friendly and very forthright about the selections. We ordered the ham and cheese assortment (Valdeon blue from Spain, and Mahon) as an appetizer along with chorizo-stuffed mushrooms with watercress and mahon(delicious). Entree was Branzino over cannelloni beans with chorizo/fregola/kale stew - wonderful mouth feel. We also ordered te Paella "Valencia" -- wonderful. I would pass on the desserts. Typical Churros, a bread pudding, and an almond cake (meh). If I'm going to have the calories it has to be fabulous. We will return.

Wish it was a little less noisy and the music was a little more restful. The food, however, was stupendous.
We had a nice time at Porrón and Pina. The lounge at Pina has a really nice feel for a pre-dinner drink and the cocktails were well balanced. Dinner at Porrón was definitely good and the service was very attentive. We were eating before a show, so we kept our choices to the tapas menu, all of which were prepared well. If we are back in Hartford, we would certainly eat here again.
Had a very enjoyable dinner. All smiles and great service from the host to the waitstaff. Food was served promptly and very tasty. We will be back again!
The food was beyond amazing. Be sure to save room for dessert! The churros are delish.
Elizabeth, Thank you for the kind words! We'll look forward to seeing you again very soon! Tim J. Ratchford General Manager
We got there late into happy hour and had a little trouble getting service. I think the back waiter did not want to overstep his responsibilities. (He waited for the waiter to give us a menu. But overall it was great.
Amazing food and service, as always! Love Tyler's new take on the Shisito peppers with that new tangy sauce on them. We were obsessed! Thought they couldn't get better than they already were, but I was wrong! Churro donuts are always a hit! <3
Thank you Jen! Tim
The space is lovely and the service great. But the
food was a bit underwhelming. The $25 risotto and orzo
was a splurge and chosen for the black truffle ingredient. But there was no sense of any risotto only the orzo
That was disappointing. The salad was fair. The octopus was quite good. Nothing really against the place. Just ok
Everything up until we sat down was fine. We waited 40min until our order was taken. Clearly the kitchen was overwhelmed because it took another 40min for the food to come out. More attention was given to the larger parties around us when they could have easily taken our order one of the many times the waiter stopped at their tables. We were going to a concert so it’s a good thing we had a reservation 2 hours before the start time. The steak was slightly overdone but other than that the food was fantastic. Would recommend on a night that didn’t have an event at the XL Center.
First let me qualify that I would recommend Porron and Pina, but not on the night of an event at the XL Center. The staff was friendly and the food was good, but we waited almost an hour before we even got water. We quickly ordered drinks and food, but the first course came before the drinks and that was almost another 30 minutes later. By that time we had to leave for our show and couldn't finish dinner, and we never got the dessert we had ordered. They were very apologetic, but no offer of any compensation for the disaster.
Starting with the good... we had a very nice waitress and she was knowledgeable about the Spanish wines which was a lot of fun. We loved her recommendations, and they paired well with the cheese platter and olives that were fantastic. We had great food with great wine, and most of the evening was wonderful. The dessert was a little lacking as they had burned the churros when they reheated them prior to plating, but the sauces they came with covered it well.
However, the manager was really rude and started our night off poorly. We had a reservation at 5 (we have little ones at home and want to be back for bedtime). I always aim to be 5 minutes early out of courtesy to the restaurant, and we ended up being 10 because of a lack of traffic. The hostess greeted us, located our reservation, and started to walk us to our table. The manager made a face when he saw us, and came over to stop her from seating us. She had to turn to us and ask us to wait the 9 minutes to 5 outside of the restaurant. He made some rude comment about heading over to the bar since we were so early (really? 8 minutes?). Instead we sat on the bench and waited until a little after 5 when they allowed us back in. If you don't want people at your restaurant at 5, open later, don't take reservations for 5... seems like an easy answer. It really soured the whole evening and he actually came over at 6:15 and asked us how our first bites of the evening were. Not sure if he was being obtuse, or just forgot we were the same couple from earlier, but it was clearly not the first bites of the evening as we had enjoyed appetizers with our wine prior to ordering our meals for the evening.
Prior visits had been so pleasant, but unfortunately this experience will certainly play into our restaurant choice in the future.
I really enjoy the food at Porron, the presentation and the flavors were excellent, however the service needs some improvement,2 out of the 3 times I’ve eaten here, I’ve had to ask the hostess to send over the waiter Who also was bartending so he could take our order, i understand that Spanish themed Restaurants love to make you feel like you’re dining in Spain but the waiter should come to the table at a reasonable time, i know it’s difficult acting as a bartender and a waiter, but maybe management should leave bar tending to the bartender and then the wait staff could do their jobs more efficiently, my food was cold when it arrived, i still recommend coming here bar Piña is also available for dining with the same menu, and i find the service faster there
Mike was a great server. We appreciated his attentiveness and knowledge of the menu.
Interesting menu choices - we opted for many of the "small bites" which was a lot of fun (try the duck legs, mushroom toast and the garlic shrimp). Our waiter was very entertaining, so we had a lot of fun. The martini service was a bit confusing and not very good (was that all vodka?)...but all in all, we enjoyed ourselves very much. We finished the night in the bar and really enjoyed the latin jazz band!
Another fake fine dining establishment. Weak food, poor service. Maybe a nice place to get a drink at the bar.
Decided to try Perron before a show at the Bushnell. Liked that they had valet parking. Great dining experience. Service was spot on. Food was great - tried the small plates and tapas.
I would recommend for small plates and drinks, but would not recommend for dinner. Even though the 'small plates/tapas' were small-they were tasty. Great drink selections and some nice bottles of wine or wine by the glass. Our table was actually 'a booth' for 4 adults when I had asked on the open table reservation for a nice table since we were celebrating a special birthday. The décor in the restaurant and the Goodwin Hotel where this restaurant is located, is very nice. We were underwhelmed by the dinner. A burned paella with uncooked rice, very sandy clams, dried mussels and a big hunk of over-cooked chicken thigh was disappointing. (You would think since this is a Spanish restaurant, that the paella would be the best thing on the menu. Wrong! ) A sad plate with 2 tiny and dried out grilled quails was delivered to the birthday-boy. And unfortunately, the only decent meal was a steak-which anyone can cook. I do like the desserts-we had a choc donut bread pudding and a churros.
Our server was friendly and attentive-but poor thing-she seemed very rushed. She didn't seem happy to have to wait on another table. We certainly didn't feel like Porron and Pina was glad we were there. For us, eating out is a special treat. It did not feel special. It was our first and last time.
The food was delicious, and our server was friendly and attentive. However, we were very disappointed upon arrival when, after having made a reservation for 8pm, we were told we would have to wait another 15 to 20 minutes and then were not seated until half an hour later. The apology from the host was minimal, and this event was treated as if it were more of a norm than an exception. For this reason, in spite of the positive dining experience afterwards, we do not plan to return to the restaurant.
3rd time here, excellent small plates and wine list. Restaurant and Hotel Goodwin excellent staff and service. Real Spanish food and wines available. We will be back as often as we can!
Excellent ambiance and service. Interesting menu. Very poor execution of the food. Quails could have been game hens. Bland, flat taste, spice was not pronounced. Flank steak was tasteless. Awful. Dessert was a chocolate bread pudding. Underflavored! Spanish food should taste smoky, unctuous and surprising. Do guys have any pimenton?
It was wife's birthday and taste let her down. Except cocktails. Wow! Wonderful bartending!
i’ll cut to the chase...my bestie and i had a very good meal- oysters, burrata, porron salad, beef tenderloin, a few glasses of wine. we were seated around 6:50pm-after we finished the tenderloin, our server Mike abruptly dropped off the check and thanked us for coming. we were surprised b/c he never asked if we wanted dessert, coffee, tea. i dont recall any awkward moments prior to this such that he would want to get rid of us.
the time was around 9:10pm and i checked the time b/c i thought the kitchen must be closing. it was a saturday nite, so the kitchen was probably open until 10, i’m guessing. at any rate, we paid the check and walked over to their lounge down the hall. if you find yourself in downtown hartford, then check out this place. otherwise, i wouldnt make a special trip to go there.
I would give Porron and Pina a second chance. We went the night after Valentine's Day. Thought the Tortilla Espana was overcooked. My wife said it could have been because it was prepared in the oven, and not on the stove. It is a noisy restaurant, though.
The restaurant & hotel are stunning. I am a big fan of their morning donut shop and cocktail drinks, but I was disappointed by their restaurant. I made reservations for their Valentine's day dinner and the food was very underwhelming for the price. Unfortunately, I was adviced of this by other friends but decided to give them a chance.
We went for Valentine’s Day so we could not select items from the normal menu. But what we did get was fantastic. My only negative comment is I was not impressed with the dessert. But again I need to go back and see if desert items from the normal menu are better.
the Patatas Bravas were french fries in marinara sauce. enough said.
Good Afternoon, I would love to hear some more specifics about your dinner and your experience here. Constructive criticism only helps us get better! Thank you. Cheers! Tim
A terrific new restaurant. The food was really good, and the noise level was bearable because they kept the music at a background level. I’ll defin go again!
Food was delicious! Wait staff attentive. Wine excellent! A real gem in downtown Hartford!
Food as fabulous as ever.
There seems to be some inconsistency between staff understanding of Happy Hour times and terms, and those posted on the internet. Waiter graciously "honored" our understanding (based on internet) but shouldn't have to...
Will be back many times...
The food was good (not great) however, it was the atmosphere and service that we thought stood out the most. Great place to sit and enjoy company and good conversation.
