We chose Poogan's Porch for a Saturday night dinner. We arrived to the restaurant early and were able to be seated prior to our reservations, which was nice. The house is beautiful, but unfortunately the outside dining areas were closed. The inside dining was good, but it is warm in the dining rooms so be prepared for that. I had the pan roasted scallops, which were amazing. My husband had the fried chicken dinner, which was OK but he felt was underwhelming. The portions are small given the price and quality of food. Overall, decent food but neither of us felt it was worth the price.
The mahi is excellent.
Food and service were great, but we felt hot and sticky both times we ate there... Need work on ac.
Our favorite restaurant in Charleston. Only problem is deciding what to order. Definitely need to make reservations well in advance.
Awesome Brunch menu! Can't visit Charleston without enjoying Brunch here. Chicken and Waffles and Pulled Pork Benedict are a must try!
I was disappointed by the quality of our waiter (slow and not responsive) and the average nature of the food. The last time we we at this restaurant both the food and service were quite good. I am not sure what has happened.
Best biscuits and gravy! Exceptional service with attention to all the right details.
We ended a wonderful girls weekend with Sunday brunch at Poogans Porch. The restaurant was hopping but the hosts were very organized and professional and we were seated within a few minutes of our reservation. Our server was nice and helpful. and the ambiance was pretty and comfortable. We all enjoyed our meals, cocktails and mocktails. She crab soup was delicious and paired well with a friend chicken salad.
Excellent food but very, very warm which made it uncomfortable to sit in there for long. Crank up the AC and I'd give it a 10 out of 10!
Food is excellent, but service is constantly a bit slow here
Delicious food. Great presentation. Delicious drinks. Excellent service
Visiting Charleston for an overnight and I made a reservation a few months ago following a friend's recommendation. Most disappointing meal of our trip. First, the restaurant smells bad, the carpets must need a really good scrub. Second, hostess should not have their cups of Starbucks in open view of the customers, that's just poor hospitality. We were taken to our table and our waiter was very sweet explained the specials and made small talk. We ordered cocktails and appetizers. Took a little long to arrive and the food was lukewarm. It wasn't great either. The mac & cheese is good but at room temperature. We waited with our dirty plates on the table until our main courses arrived and had to help the waiter clear up the table so he could place our plates on the table. That's restauration 101... table should be cleared before the second round comes out. I had the Mahi Mahi - it was again lukewarm and dry. My husband had the shrimp and grits - good and my son really like the fried chicken. We ordered an expensive bottle of white wine and it wasn't cold when it got to our table. We had to ask for additional ice and cold water to cool it down. Overall will not recommend this restaurant.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Poogan's Porch. The restaurant setting was fantastic along with the food and service. Our waiter, Josh, was a pleasure and help to make the meal that much more enjoyable. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be back the next time we are in Charleston.
We were on vacation to Charleston and Poogan's Porch was the restaurant I selected as a special treat on our last night in town. The food was very good and the service was excellent. The room was LOUD and it was hard to converse with my husband. I wish I had asked to be moved to a different room or section. We sat in silence quite often as it was hard to talk loud enough to be heard. We were seated at a small table for two so we were not next to each other but across the table. We had left overs and our waiter packed them up nicely and kindly included a couple of the delicious biscuits. Overall, it was a nice experience/meal.
Overrated. Just poor quality food. Very disAppointing
Brunch was delicious! We loved the fried green tomatoes and biscuts and gravy. We also loved the historic house.
Very good and quaint. I like the small feel and the dining area where the seating is more spread out and not sitting so close to all of the other diners like so many other restaurants.
Came in for brunch. We had to wait exactly until our reservation time though there were several tables open. The food was good. I really enjoyed the grits. Nice view if you do get a seat on the porch or balcony.
Poogan's Porch was recommended to us by a number of friends, so when we visited Charleston we added it to our list of places to eat. The menu provided a broad selection, the ambiance was relaxed, and our waitress Rosa was excellent. Rosa made the evening delightful.
4 of us had terrific meals, scallops & ravioli, buttermilk fried chicken, shrimp & grits & salmon. We ended the meal with key lime napoleon. Would reccomend to amyone.
Outstanding service and food
The restaurant is in an old house which gives it a nice historic atmosphere. The she crab soup which I had as an appetizer was great. The entrees were good but not great. I had grouper and it was a little bland. My son had rabbit which was so-so. My husband had snapper which was very good. My other son had steak which he enjoyed. We ordered an Albarino wine which was ok, but we have had a lot better for the same price point. Our waiter was nice and did a nice job. All in all we enjoyed ourselves and the food was pretty good, but given all of the choices in Charleston I will probably not choose to return to this restaurant.
What a fabulous place. I am so glad I was able to get a reservation during our visit to Charleston. Loved this restaurant and its story. Hope to make it back again soon!
decided to spend the weekend in Charleston and this was our first time visiting the city. I did some research to see which places we should eat at and I'm so glad I picked out this place. The restaurant was beautiful. It had that historic and rustic feel considering it was located in Victorian home. We made reservations and were seated promptly as soon as we arrived. The waitress was very friendly and made sure all of our needs were met. The food - OMG. Both my husband and I ordered the sweet tea glazed salmon with asparagus and rice. It was to die for! It was one of the best meals we ever had. We will definitely be coming back to this place to eat when we visit Charleston again. I highly recommend eating at this restaurant!
Amazing food, uniquely Southern. Crispy snapper a must, as is fried chicken, ribs and pickles and bread pudding. I'd definitely go again!!
Everything was perfect. We were celebrating the 34th anniversary of our first date and everyone congratulated us, even some of the guests at tables near ours. One couple even took our picture and emailed it to us the next day. Rosa, our server, was the best.
Outstanding - always great. A must for anyone visiting Charleston.
We really enjoyed our Girls Trip Sunday brunch, it was a perfect start to the prefect trip! Brian was great! Thanks!
Amazing! This was our favorite restaurant in Charleston- we tried many of the best place to eat and this was by far our favorite!
Delicious food - great atmosphere. I just wish they served brunch daily!
I asked for a dirty martini with Tito's vodka, I received a dirty martini with Tequila instead. I understand accidents happen but how the waiter handled it, was terrible. When I told the waiter about it, his exact response was "how do you like your dirty martinis prepared? You must not like them the way we make them" He was very rude and said that the first one was made with Vodka. He made me feel so dumb as if I didn't know what I was talking about. When I took a sip of the first martini it was clearly tequila and I wanted to spit it out. I had my husband smell it and he said it was tequila too. The waiter did correct the drink and brought out a 2nd one that tasted perfect but it was how he went about he situation in the first place just kind of left us with a bad vibe about the restaurant . This was our first time eating there. The crab cakes and scallops with pimento cheese ravioli were delicious.
Food was delicious. Ordered 4 appetizers to share with my daughr-in-law. The only complaint that I have is that we arrived early for our reservation and asked to sit outside in the front-the guy sitting people forgot about us and had to sit in the back outside area which was ok but I walk with a cane and was a little way for me to walk
We had planned to eat at Poogan's Porch. The restaurant was recommended from a colleague. My wife and I found the place and we decided to go in the restaurant 2 hours before dinner just to make contact. The hostess initially was nice, but then she went on a rant about why we should not be there and was very rude. Hence, we went to eat somewhere else - the Greek restaurant on King Street.
Great experience all the way around! Our waiter Matthew was outstanding!
Perfect for group of girls. Excellent service and food was amazing!
We were in South Carolina for a week and this was definitely our best meal. I had the shrimp and grits and it was outstanding. My husband had seared scallops with pimiento ravioli. We both really enjoyed our meals, the service and the ambiance of this wonderful restaurant!
Great meal, service was excellent. Be sure to get the pimiento cheese fritters - delish!!
A must every time I visit Charleston. The food is always outstanding, and the charm makes for a lovely date night.
Excellent service as well as excellent food!!!
Our waiter Less was friendly and gave a great recommendations.....the mac and cheese was great, so was the fried chicken. My husband had the duck which he said was fabulous. Local, fresh, low country food but very refined!
Great location for any meal. Went Sunday for lunch to find out they had a brunch menu but everything we ordered was still delicious. Worth the trip if you're within driving distance.
