   Food was nice enough. Staff had no idea what they were doing. Chefs were great and ended up bringing food out.

   The sunshine helped of course, but we had a lovely lunch-time experience at the Plough at Effingham. It has been newly refurbished inside, with a smart ladies loo, including Bramley soap and hand lotion. There is new wooden furniture at the front and the back garden is calm and sunny with trees and shrubs. I understand that cushions will soon be supplied for the seats. The food was fresh and delicious. Service was friendly and we felt very welcome and relaxed.

We’re delighted that we can finally use the garden and hope the sunshine is here to stay so we can continue enjoying the new garden furniture (with cushions) and the sunny space.    Very disappointing. We have been visiting the Plough for years and the lunchtime menu has always been suitable and well priced. Prices have gone up by about 30-50% and just not enough choice at a decent lunchtime price. There was very few people in the pub or the garden whereas before it has always been buzzing. It was very noisy though. The staff were very helpful and pleasant!

   Hello Phyl, I'm sorry to read that your recent visit to the plough was disappointing, we have a whole new menu and if anything the choice has increased and its shame you don't agree. Prices have increased across the whole hospitality industry and we are matched with the area and try to be inline with other pubs in the area.    We were 5 people and 3 meals were good. Beef and ale pie was lovely and the duck salad quite nice. 2 meals, both chicken schnitzel, were very over cooked, very dark bread crumbs and very dry. Chips also not so nice. Ambience was very nice and I believe that there has been renovations, which looked lovely. The service was a little slow and a little abrupt at times. Although we are a friendly bunch.

   Lovely renovated pub, brilliant servers which makes all the difference. Vegan options were great, overall lovely lunch spot.

   We’ve been visiting The Plough in Effingham for many years, under previous ownerships, and have always enjoyed the food and service. Sadly, on our most recent visit, we noticed a drop in standards which was disappointing given its past reputation. The menu still offers a good selection and is averaged priced. While the food tasted okay, the experience was let down by a significant delay—we were warned of a 20-minute wait, which ended up being over an hour. When the Sunday roast finally arrived, the chicken was minimal and quite dry, and the pig in blanket was so overcooked it was difficult to cut. One even flew off the table during an attempt! The vegetable portion was surprisingly sparse—just a slither quarter of a carrot and parsnip, with no sign of the green beans, cabbage, or leeks that were meant to be included. With only 2 staff members serving and a third arriving later, it was difficult to flag the issue during the meal. When we finally raised our concerns after finishing, the waiter was apologetic and did his best, but the manager never responded directly. We had to ask again why our vegetables hadn’t been added. We were eventually told the missing vegetables were due to a miscommunication with the kitchen, and we were offered complimentary desserts, though we declined and asked for our non alcoholic drinks to be left off the bill to which they complied. It seems the pub is no longer owner-managed, and unfortunately, that change appears to have affected the overall quality. Our waiter tried their best under pressure, but the experience didn’t live up to the pub’s former high standards and as others have reviewed the manager is not right for the place - in fact even the clientele was not the same. We hope things improve, but for now, we’d hesitate to recommend it as we once did.

   Hello Kath, Firstly we're sorry to read about your recent visit to the Plough last Sunday, this is not our usual approach, we are taking steps to make sure this changes. Sunday was a challenge for us and we did have a longer than expected wait for food. The vegetables was our error as every dish should have a separate bowl of green beans, cabbage and leeks to accompany it and this was missed. We do always ask that you let the staff know that the food is not right and I understand you not wanting to bother the staff when its busy - but we don't mind especially if its affecting your visit. We are working on the communication as a team and feedback helps too!    The service was very good, puddings were good but the main courses were generally average. Regrettably there were no local ales on draft, not sure we will hurry back.

   Very disappointing experience. Large table who were noisy and then chose to eat which meant our order was delayed and we waited over 90minutes to get fed. Staff were apologetic and gave us a complimentary bottle of wine. However this didn’t detact from a very poor experience.

    The food was excellent but the options for vegetarians who are gluten free were very limited. And the gluten free menu was confusing. The staff were amazing but it all felt a bit new and the wait wasquite long once the restaurant filled up. The music was very loud but very quickly turned down. An excellent evening
