This was my second time visiting Playland and I was beyond disappointed in the experience from beginning to end. Our server (who won’t be named) took over 20 mins to take our order and additional 15-20 mins to bring us our drinks. We had to be asking other wait staff for anything we wanted. Anytime we would look over she would be on the phone texting or talking and not paying attention to her tables. Our food was disappointing. Our first time the pizza was amazing and this time it was burnt and lacked flavor. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you want to pay for over priced pizza, terrible service, and a headache from not being able to hear the people at your table from the music being too loud.
Fun place to have champagne and a bite. Great vibe. Gre at food & fun!
We had fantastic hamburgers and some of the best fries that we’d had on a very long time. Crispy and salty. Perfect the staff was friendly and efficient. We had the frozen drink specials then the Moét special (2 bottles )
Music was fun and upbeat.
A great experience!
I went on a date here and it was also my first time. I was truly so impressed by the level of service from our waiter and waitress. Young lady in the pin stripe orange romper who was on the ball and a waiter named Gilbert really made us feel like we belonged. The music is on POINT! The pizza is on POINT and the service is on P O I N T. I’ll be back for sure! Its in a great location to take a stroll after a couple of strong drinks which they for sure have at playland. The manager Charles made sure we had our reservations still available even being a tad late. Love it and will be back
Good service and delicious food!
Always the best service and vibe! Thank y’all!!
The service, cocktails, kale salad, pizza and lurking olives all met our expectations on the first visit to Playland! I've been trying to find someone to join me for dinner to this wonderful restaurant and they were also blown away by the flavors. So simple yet refined. It dawned on me, why wait for a dinner guest to join? I'm coming down and enjoying this delectable food on my own next time!!
Best Neapolitan pizza in SA. It’s mostly because of the amazing dough, but the pizza combinations and the small plates are all delicious. The bartenders and wait staff are great too.
Great pizza, terrible service. They forgot to put in some of our orders, but where nice to comp our drinks and appetizers for the mishap
Pizza was slow to come out. The bourbon/lemon cocktail was very astringent, I don’t think it was shaken and it tasted like it was using lemon juice from concentrate. Pizza was extremely greasy.
We enjoyed the ambiance and energy at Playland and everything on the menu sounded delicious. That being said I would only recommend with the caveat that, while overall it was an enjoyable meal, the food was not all we had hoped for. The pizzas were well cooked and had perfect crust, but the toppings were sort of odd and didn't necessarily work together. One of our group ordered the spicy pizza and it was actually so hot that she couldn't eat it. The pizza with "corn cream" was bland, though still good in a "there is no bad pizza" way. The mushroom/taleggio pizza was good in places, and then other bites had WAY too much salt and were almost inedible. The hummus appetizer was just so-so and same with the friend jalapeno poppers. They were like something you would have at TGI Fridays. The service was also odd....our waiter was so soft spoken and chill that we actually couldn't hear a word he said. He was in no hurry to take our order and when he finally did he never asked about drink orders. We had to call him back to order a couple of glasses of wine. We liked the decor and the wine list and the menu is really creative but the execution needs tightening up. I think the pizzas would benefit from simplifying the toppings a little bit....felt like they were trying REALLY hard to be different and it just didn't work. I would still go back and give it another try though the next time I"m going to something at Majestic or Empire.
Pizza is amazing service is anyways poorly and drinks overpriced
Fun, ecelctic, and bright design of the establishment. Food was ok. Pizza was overcooked/burnt on the bottom and oven should probably be cleaned. Dessert was explained as ricotta stuffed donut holes, but there was no actual filling inside. But very convenient for dinner prior to theater show.
Great location with fresh ambiance and great pizza. I highly recommend this 'breath of fresh air' in the central downtown dining scene.
everything was great except noise level
very difficult to have any conversation
We’ve ordered to go many times and the food was amazing. Decided to dine in there and I won’t be back. The service was mediocre and the “prosciutto” we ordered on our pizza was pancetta (and cold). The bathrooms were FILTHY- no toilet paper and not one toilet had been flushed in what seemed like days- not ok.
Best pizza I’ve had in San Antonio!
Great pizza and bites in a lively place.
Playland treats you like a tourist with ambivalent service rushing to turn the table even in a half empty restaurant. The food was good though the prices are high. The restaurant was loud and dark even with floor to ceiling windows.
Best pizza in San Antonio! Staff was very nice and helpful, top notch experience!
This place is always amazing!
I let the bartender( Daniel-I think🥴) know the “type” of drink I like then told him to use his judgement! RIGHT ON TARGET!!! Was a great drink🥃. The food did NOT disappoint either! Will definitely go back and refer my friends to try. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great food. Great service We enjoyed the restaurant. Good value, Portions large enough for sharing
Went to Playland with son before a play. The modern vibe was cool and there was a mix of patrons both young and old enjoying some wine and pizza. Our waiter was very personable but felt that our food was a bit rushed. Our appetizer came out and soon after so did our pizza. Probably would have liked some time to enjoy our first course. Also noticed that some tables received pizza stands and others had pizzas that were delivered on the table. Not sure how they decide who gets one or not. In all it was a good experience and we will be back again.
Pizza crust was kinda burned but really good stuff!
Amazing pizza, fun appetizers, good service. Great place for dinner before a show downtown. We will be back
I’m not that impressed with the appetizers, but the pizza and salads are delicious! I totally recommend this restaurant.
Better than most! Nice aura, great drinks & wine list. Portions were outstanding and the pizza was above the regular Italian cuisine, with outstanding toppings. Great service. We will return.
Love the sour dough pizza crust!!! Incredible appetizers!! The decor is very eclectic and amusing :)
Really kind of disappointed. The place had a cool vibe but the food was just average. Ordered 4 pizzas and the crust was burned on two. By the time you pay for parking, not really worth the trouble.
Great place. Fantastic food. Pizzas are superb.
The best pizza, the best ingredients. Kudos.
I'd been there several times but this was a first for my husband and he loved it. The apps are really greats and the service was equally great. The pizza was outstanding. We will definitely go again even thought we live the the far Northside.
Our reservation table for 6 six was ready and they sat us right away. The service was great and the pizza and fresh salads were delightful. We will be back again soon.
We went here before seeing a show at the Majestic (one block away) and food and cocktails were outstanding!!
wonderful service with great pizza!
Had a wonderful experience, this place is more than just pizza. The pizza was delicious and just the right size so I felt my family could order a few to get a variety. The appetizers were amazing (jalapeño poppers and fried green tomatoes) both were innovative takes on something otherwise very common. If you love Mexican martinis or margaritas on the rock, you have to try the Ghost Train. Yum!!!
Both times we’ve been we really enjoyed the food. Both times the service has been very uneven. On this latest visit, our salads, appetizer and pizza all came out at the same time and we did not really enjoy that. We had to ask for sweetener for tea, the salt and pepper, then cheese and red pepper and also to get refills on drinks. You shouldn’t have to ask for those things with an attentive server.
There was a hair in my salad that I discovered after eating most of it. I had to tell the waiter not to charge me for it. He should have offered that. Instead he told the kitchen to make another salad. Also, he never apologized for the hair. He seemed annoyed by the entire incident.
The fried mushrooms were good as were the cocktails. The pizza was disappointing. It was burned on the crust which the server indicated was because it was cooked in a wood burning stove. Plus the sauce was runny. I have eaten pizza in NYC cooked in a wood burning stove that was not burned. If I go again, it will be for appetizers and cocktails and not the pizza. (BTW our table had not been wiped down.)
