   The Plantation Gardens is one of our favorite restaurants on Kauai. We try to dine there every time we visit that island. The ambiance is fabulous with the garden setting, the outdoor porch, and the lovely lights at night. The service is always flawless. And of course the food is delicious. The menu was updated a little from our last visit and it was amazing.

   Even with a reservation and a low number of people 2/3rds of the seats used, it took 20 mins to be seated, ½ hour for meal after ordering. Steak was mediocre, rare when ordered medium rare, returned it. After 15 mins they returned the same cut medium rare. Peppers overwhelmed the vegetables, which were over cook. It started to rain and it took about ½ for the waitress to close the shutters. Most higher end places would have comped the dinner, or the one meal or offered a dessert or something. But alas, no.

   The restaurant setting and ambiance are terrific. We were a bit disappointed in the food though, only average. We had a MahiMahi dish and the Rib dish....ok but would try something different next time. Service was good.

   Wow, service was top notch, elegant yet casual experience, like being in your favourite grandparents fancy but homey dining room for a wonderful family dinner. There was the general volume of happy conversations. I’d come back on a date as well. The surrounding gardens are beautiful and our 7 year old daughter is in love with the place as the beautifully landscaped ponds just off the deck where we ate had frogs and koi. Nobody minded that she left the table a couple of times to frog-watch. The food was incredible I had their signature seafood dish (wrapped in palm leaves), and my husband had the ribs. Even my daughters chicken tenders (from the lovely kids menu!) were amazing. Well done Plantation Gardens, we will be back on our next trip! Aloha!

   Management needs replacing. Immediately defensive and unwilling to consider problem with a meal despite the fact that we were't even asking for discount or refund.

   Drinks were wonderful. I loved their take on a Cosmo. The Coconut seafood stew was delightful with huge shrimp, calamari and other delights.

    Awesome restaurant with delicious food. It is in a beautiful setting, although ocean views are scarce and narrow. Old plantation house that has been remodeled surround by beautiful gardens. The service and food are really good, though the dining is pricey. Since it is not a busy oceanfront restaurant, you can actually carry on a conversation at your table! Highly recommend.

    I booked through open table who sent me a confirmation as well as a day prior to reservation a reminder. When we arrived at the restaurant the host said he had no record of our reservation and condescending said I probably booked at their Maui restaurant. He found us a table but not in the garden area where we wanted. His attitude was unacceptable.i checked my IPad when I got back and confirmed the reservation was for their restaurant. Unfortunately, I have lost faith in Open Table as well as never returning to that restaurant.

    We love the Plantation Gardens Restaurant, and it has an old school kind of charm and presence. The food is great too, and we really appreciated the friendly service. Happy Hour is a hidden gem and super value!

    We have been coming to Kauai for over Ten years and every year Plantation Gardens has been a favorite we always make sure to visit. After the experience we had last night we will not be returning. It started with the ambiance. There are no longer tiki torches lit at the entrance nor illumination in the front garden. They remodeled and entry is no longer inviting. The dining room was filled with unbused tables. We made our reservation weeks ago and they put us in the far corner of the veranda under bright lights, near the kitchen and separated from the rest of the tables. When I asked to move, the hostess and the manager were rude and pointed me to the unbused tables. The waiter was rude when I asked for a special cocktail and my sea food lau lau was fishy. Some of our party did like their food. Lastly there were stray cats walking around our table. Which while cute are unsanitary and not what you expect from a nice restaurant. Very very disappointing. We won’t be back!

    Ribeye had a sweet sauce with slightly burnt garlic flakes and so much pepper there was no flavor of being a medium rare steak. Fish was overcooked and dried out - also totally overpowered by pepper. Service was fine. The grounds are very pretty.

    Went for Valentine’s Day dinner. Had the chef’s special and it was outstanding. Was the perfect amount and even has room for the awesome cheesecake dessert! We were a little disappointed in the beer selections. They had lots of wine on tap but no beers. All the beers were canned. I guess this type of more “upscale” restaurant caters to more wine drinkers. Was a great experience overall.

    An absolutely lovely setting and delicious fresh fish preparations. I was a bit disappointed with my appetizer choice, but the fish, dessert and fantastic service made up for it. I would definitely dine here again. Lovely tables on the lanai overlooking small ponds and gardens.

    First of all, our waitress, Sam, is a gem. We loved her efficiency, good advice, and especially her winning personality. Secondly, it’s delightful to sit out on the porch with a view of the garden. Finally, my husband loves the lau lau entree and never orders anything else. I enjoyed the fish special with avocado.

    We made an open table reservation for our party of six. The table was ready when we arrived. Our waitperson, Amanda, made us feel at home and was totally proficient in helping us decide on food and wine for the evening. I will definitely recommend the Plantation to my friends.

    Delicious meal in a beautiful setting. The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. This was our last night on Kauai; we couldn't have choisen a better spot.

    The ambience and staff were wonderful. We did not like the presentation of the entree. We had the quinoa coated fish with asparagus...the grains and asparagus were blended together and looked like oatmeal...not very appealing or appetizing.

    We had the Chef’s Special. I think any of the Chef Specials, no matter what it is, is fantastic. As for atmosphere, a cat wandered through the lanai. So relaxed. Loved it

    Worst dining experience ever! Party of 8. We had Tim as our waiter he was incredibly rude from the start. One member of our party asked a question about the menu Tim answered the question with the response “just like I just said..”. Then we asked for a substitution of mashed potatoes for quinoa. Nope we can not do that we only have enough potatoes for the specials. One member of the party did not receive their drink until she reminded him twice, no apology. Drink finally came out after the appetizers. Dinner was not good. Only 2 of the 8 enjoyed their food. On to dessert- one dessert was forgotten. At this point we asked to speak to the manager. The manager came out completely defensive and after explaining our experience his response was, so you are complaining about not getting a drink? What? At that point we stopped the conversation as this was not going to go anywhere. Paid the bill and left. They did comp the desserts we ordered because they did admit they forgot the one dessert. No apology for the rude service. Unacceptable! Trust me do not waste your time or money.

    In our group we had 5 adults and one child. Each of us ordered something different from the cocktail, appetizer, entree, and dessert menu. Everything was DELICIOUS! They seated us st a round table that was the PERFECT size so we could share found and conversation. The ponds, frogs, lights, and garden were delightful!

    We've dined here 30 or more times. We enjoy the open-air ambiance in the old plantation house, the beautify orchid gardens, and the very good to excellent food and drink. Our party enjoyed Monchong with 3 different tasty preparations and island-style ahi poke. A custom-crafted drink joined several island-themed cocktails with excellence. However, we felt our server, perhaps overburden was curt, borderline rude, and did not service the tables properly. Had we not had special guests, my wife and I would have left in the first several minutes. The person who delivered our food and offered us dessert was quite personable, and a 3rd person who delivered the desserts was pleasant. In over 55 trips to the islands we only once had such rude service. In the future, we will call in advance and avoid this place if the same server is working.

    Since we were married at the Kiahuna, had our Honeymoon dinner at this very restaurant, and have often returned, I think it is safe to say that we have always loved this place. Thankfully, the setting has not changed. - Old Hawaii at its best and lovely as ever. I wish the same could be said for other important components: food and particularly service. Our dinner was passable. The appetizer, crab rangoon, was unremarkable, more sauce than crab. We had fish, and both dishes were good, although mine was slightly dry. (Brennecke’s, the charming dive bar down the way offers a far tastier fish dinner for a bit less, in my humble opinion.) My principal problem is with our server. At the end of our meal when I asked if they served latte, she responded by saying that they just had coffe and that The Plantation “is a restaurant, not a Starbucks.” Admittedly, I was a bit stunned by her remark. I knew full well that I was at a restaurant but failed to point out that a lot of excellent restaurants serve latte and that one of the marks of an excellent restaurant is the absence of smart-mouthed servers like her. We subsequently made the mistake of asking her to take our photo, but she was far too busy and relegated that task to one of the bus boys. In fairness I must say that she was otherwise an efficient and capable server. However, being efficient and capable is not enough. Her rudeness marred our experience at The Plantation Gardens and made it highly unlikely that we will return, at least on this trip. A shame really.
